A MONTH BEFORE FALL BREAK
Elisa’s POV:
School’s been a little bit great so far for me basically because I had good marks in our welcome back tests that was conducted. There were a lot of thing that happened in the previous days like Vicky making her way into the cheer leading squad. I bet you know why she did it :) . If you don’t well it’s because Willow’s the cheer captain and Vicky thinks this is her chance to shoot her shot before we graduate. For someone who watches Netflix most of my free time, I knew the idea was super DUMB! because the way Vicky’s trying to approach Willow would make her seem like a stalker.

Few days earlier
-
“I’ve made up my mind Lis”, Vicky exclaimed as we were walking down the school hall.
“Made up your mind for what?”, I asked.
“I’m going to join the cheer leading squad”,
“Why?”,
“Isn’t it obvious Lis, if I’m part of the squad Willow would finally notice me and then I can seize the opportunity and tell her how I feel”,
“And how long have you been thinking about this?”,
“What makes you think I’ve thought about it before?”, she asked in astonishment.
“I’m your best friend Vick, I know everything about you. Let me guess, you’ve had this in mind since summer break but you thought it would sound stupid if you told me right?”,
“Ummm… that’s surprisingly correct Lis. Am I that predictable?”, she chuckled.
“Not gonna lie, I find the idea very stupid. Why don’t you just walk up to Willow and introduce yourself like normal people do. I bet she’d feel the same way you feel if you guys start talking. She’ll know how great my best friend is but if you insist on going on with your bizarre plan, you have my approval”, I said giving her full assurance that I had her back. We then talked about other things and went to class.

Two days after Vicky’s tryout
-
“I got in! I got in!!”, Vicky shouted as she ran from the end of the hallway in the school to me where I was getting stuffs from my locker.
“I knew you’d get in”, I responded giving her a hug. I actually had double mind after she tried out for the cheer squad because the Vicky I know wasn’t the flexible type but if it’s about being loud. She’s good at it. “So when are you getting the uniform?”,
“Well I got it already. I actually got in since yesterday but it seemed as if you weren’t in the mood that’s why I’m just telling you “,
“Ohh…oh wow”,I muttered. My mood at the moment changed a bit because I felt she started keeping things from me but I couldn’t just ruined our little celebration. “I’m so proud of you Vic, we have to celebrate when school ends today”,
“Obviously, at my place by 8?”,
“Sure, why not”, I replied.

Back to present day :)
-
I was waiting for Vicky to come get me from my house today because it was Saturday and we had made plans on going to Beckett’s table. Well Beckett’s table is like the most popular restaurant in our district and was also the closest to our homes, so every weekend we spend most of our time there. We agreed that she’ll come over by 11am and pick me up but it was already 12:30pm. I felt bad because she’s been acting weird lately. Like the other day for example, she ditched me and drove some of the girls in the cheer squad home and I had no choice than to use a public bus. I hate using public buses, it’s always filled with smelly fat guys or business people that are always on the phone.
“Do you still think she’s gonna come mom?”, I asked my mom who was cleaning our marble top counter in the kitchen.
“Why not darling, maybe she’s busy with a few things at home. Why don’t you go over and check on her?”, she replied. It was obvious she wasn’t interested with what I was saying. She hates it whenever I disturb her while she’s doing her regular Saturday cleanups.
“Okay sure, whatever you say mom”, I groaned leaving my house. I looked above our wooden fence and her dad’s SUV wasn’t parked there. “That b***h!”, I enunciated furiously. I stormed out of my gate and went over to her house and knocked on the door.
“Her Elisa, how are you?”, her mom asked in a concerned way as she opened the door.
“I’m fine Mrs Fox, is Vicky home?”, I asked politely with a forced smile on my face trying to hide my rage.
“No darling, she left home over an hour ago”,
“Is there by any chance you know where she went to?”,
“She told me she was going to the restaurant you guys always go to, any problem?”,
“No ma, thank you very much”, I responded leaving her place.
“Won’t you come in?”, she said.
Entering their house was the least thing I wanted to do at the moment. I went back to my place, grabbed my purse and phone and went straight to Beckett’s table.
“Hey Vicky!”, I exclaimed as I barged into the restaurant. She didn’t seem excited to see me but I wouldn’t blame her since she realized she bailed on her best friend to hang out with her new friends.
“What’s up Lis?, what’re you find here?”, she stammered in a low tone getting up from her chair she sat on.
“What am I doing here?!”, I began. “What do you mean by what am I doing here?!, what are you doing here with them?”,
“Didn’t you read the text I sent to your snap?”,
“What text?”,
“Check your phone Lis!”,
“Don’t tell me to check my phone, why’d you leave me to hang out with those guys”, I bellowed pointing towards the cheer squad who were now looking at us.
“If you would just check your phone you’d see that I sent you a message about it”,
“Even if you sent a message you could’ve come over to my place to tell me, wh…..”,
“Look around Lis, everyone’s starring at is, you’re acting really immature”, she exclaimed cutting me short.
I felt so embarrassed when I discovered that we were the center of attraction as what she said was actually true. I went out of the restaurant and headed home. When I got home I bolted to my room to lock myself up and cry. I hated crying because it’s only weak people that cry. At that point I wished Vicky didn’t make the team.
I actually thought people who cry themselves to sleep were weird and stupid because I didn’t see the point but today I proved myself wrong. I woke up and when I checked the time on my phone it was already 7pm. The day had already come to an end and I hated it, I didn’t achieve anything except if you count fighting with your best friend in public as something.
“Lis!, someone’s looking for you at the door”, my mom yelled from the living room.
“Tell them to go away”, I responded back yelling.
“Elisa come down now!”, she is ordered. My mom rarely orders me and after the way she sounded, I didn’t really have a choice.
“I’m coming”, I muttered coming out from my room.
It was Vicky that was at the door when I opened it and I began to wonder why I was surprised.
“What’s up Lis?”, she said,
“Why’re you here?”, I replied while holding the door waiting for the perfect moment to shut it on her face.
“Can we talk?”,
“I’m busy, so why don’t you just tell me whatever you want here”,
“Are you sure ?, I brought our favorite fast food from Beckett’s tables”, she said waving the food wrapped with whatever people call it.
I could never say no to food especially when it’s my favorite.
“Fine, come in”, I replied welcoming her inside.
“Look, I’m really sorry for not coming over to tell you about meeting the squad. I sent you a text and I thought you read it”,
“I’m sorry for overreacting, I read the message when I got home after our argument”,
“So are we cool?”,
“Sure we are cool”, I replied hugging her. At least we are cool for now. “Next time our friendship comes first before your squad. Deal?”,
“Deal”, she replied.
Then we did our handshake and after our little reconciliation talk, we watched tv while eating the flattop seared cheeseburger and Apple & dried tart cherry cobbler.
“I’ll see you tomorrow babe”, she said as she got up from the couch going towards the door.
“No problem”,
“By the way, before you came to the restaurant, the girls said the party’s gonna hold during Fall break. I really hope you’re hyped as I am”,
“Sure, I can’t wait”, I said ironically.
The rest of the weekend went on great and unfortunately fast. I went to church and heard the priest’s usual homily on Sunday and when I got home I binged on some series on Netflix and slept for the rest of the day. I’m catholic by the way and going to church on Sundays is a must thing in my home.
