Chapter 1: Starting Off with a Girlfriend
"Charlie, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for this to happen! It's all my fault! I'm really, really sorry..."
As Charlie's consciousness began to return, he heard the incessant sobbing and apologizing of a girl right beside him.
Charlie's first reaction was to think his girlfriend had cheated on him.
But he quickly realized he didn't have a girlfriend.
So, what was happening?
Why was there a girl crying on top of him?
Charlie tried to open his eyes to find out, but a sudden, intense headache forced him to stop.
At that moment, another voice, more mature, interrupted the girl's crying.
"It's not your fault, sweetheart. If anyone is to blame, it's your father and me," the girl's mother said, trying to comfort her.
The girl, still full of self-blame, responded, "No! I killed Charlie! It's all my fault!"
Wait! Killed Charlie???
I'm not dead!
I can be saved!
Ignoring his headache, Charlie tried to shout, but found he couldn't open his mouth.
Enduring the pain, he again tried to open his eyes, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't.
It was as if his body wasn't his own.
Beside him, the mother and daughter continued their conversation, oblivious to any signs of life from Charlie.
"No, Zoe, this isn't your fault. Some truths I should have told you earlier."
"Truths?"
"Yes, the truth! Your great-grandmother also suffered from this hereditary curse. I prayed you wouldn't inherit it, but it seems God didn't heed my prayers. Zoe, I'm sorry, but from now on you have to walk a different path."
"Mom, I don't get what you're saying."
"The witch's bloodline, Zoe, is not a myth. It's a real power that flows through our family's veins, originating from the Salem witches. Not every generation or every girl inherits it. Your great-grandmother had this power and became a witch. And you, Zoe, whether it's a blessing or a curse, have now become a witch too."
"A witch?" the girl responded in disbelief.
A witch?
Charlie, who had been listening the whole time, was equally astonished.
For some reason, a sense of familiarity washed over him, as if he'd seen or heard this before.
As he racked his brain, Zoe's mother continued, "I'm sorry about Charlie's death; it was an accident no one wanted. So, Zoe, to prevent such accidents in the future, you must learn to control your witch powers. I've already called the council, and they'll take you to New Orleans. There's a boarding school there for girls like you, where you'll be safe." "You're sending me away? But Charlie..."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of Charlie's funeral."
No!!!
Charlie screamed internally.
He didn't want to be cremated or lie in a coffin for eternity.
I'm still alive!
At that moment, an intense will to live surged through Charlie, breaking the invisible force that had confined him.
A book-like shadow flashed through his mind, and before he could think more about it, Charlie forced his eyes open and, with great effort, raised his arm to greet the mother and daughter beside him, saying, "Hey... I think... I can still make it."
With that, everything went black for Charlie again.
"Charlie!!!"
In the next second, the girl's ecstatic scream and her mother's incredulous exclamation filled the room.
When Charlie woke up again, he found himself lying in a hospital bed.
A youthful blonde girl was sleeping wearily at the bedside.
As Charlie looked at her, a flood of memories suddenly flashed through his mind.
Zoe Benson, his girlfriend from school, who had wanted to take their relationship to the next level. They had come to her house for their first time, and just as they started, he had died...
Wait!
Charlie shook his head vigorously, and new memories poured in.
In another world, he had been a carefree university student。He had bought an ancient book from a street vendor and was about to study it when a speeding car ran a red light and hit him. That was the end of him in that world.
So, had he traveled to another world?
Reflecting on the memories in his mind, Charlie realized his new body looked exactly like his old one.
Except this death was even more bizarre.
But... why did all this feel so familiar?
A bizarre death, witches, Zoe?
Charlie was suddenly struck by a realization. He quickly turned to look at his new girlfriend, brushing away the messy hair from her face to reveal a sweet, innocent girl.
No wonder it felt so familiar!
Isn't this one of the protagonists from American Horror Story: Coven?
So, he had replaced the unlucky boyfriend who died within seconds of his appearance, becoming Zoe's current boyfriend.
How could this be?
Charlie was baffled.
Hearing the commotion, Zoe woke up.
Seeing her boyfriend awake, she immediately threw herself into Charlie's arms, exclaiming, "Thank God! Charlie, you're alive! I was so scared! I'm so sorry! I didn't know that would happen! It's all my fault..." Zoe rambled on, expressing her guilt and joy.
Feeling the young girl's body against his, Charlie, regaining his senses, started to speak, "I..." But before he could finish, his mouth was suddenly covered by a warm sensation.
This was too sudden.
Experiencing the passion of a girl for the first time, Charlie was at a loss.
To make matters worse, he had no experience at all.
In the end, Charlie could only passively accept everything.
It wasn't until the heart monitor by the bed nearly sounded an alarm due to his racing heart that this welcoming ceremony finally ended.
Still a bit shocked, Charlie convinced himself to accept it all.
After all, who could complain about being given a second chance at life?
Watching Zoe, who was now attentively giving him water to drink, peeling fruit for him, and obeying his every word with eyes full of affection, the newly arrived Charlie breathed a sigh of satisfaction.
Starting off with a sweet girlfriend—who wouldn't be happy about that?
Well... even if this girlfriend was a black widow.
Not the sexy black-clad widow from Marvel, but the real kind who devoured her partner.
But...
Still better than being forever alone though, right?
