Sitting at my desk, I was reminded why I didn't usually drink.
My head ached, no matter how many glasses of water I had drank.
Not even pain pills were helping!
Luckily, I had made it through most of my day already.
My cell suddenly began to chime and I groaned, dropping my head to my hands while ignoring Leo's call.
I had no desire for any sort of chit-chat today.
It didn't help one bit that Ruby kept texting me with cowboy and handcuffs emojis! Sometimes it was hared to remind myself that she was in fact the older of us.
Suddenly, this reminded me of our chat the previous night at the bar, I was looking for a pet.
Maybe a dog would fill the clearly gaping hole in my chest?
I rolled my eyes, aware that was probably not going to happen.
Turning to my computer, I went onto the internet to check out some animal adoption agencies in the area and scour through the dogs and cats in need of a home.
It was at this exact moment an Idea struck and I jumped to my feet, rushing out to Jane.
"You aren't allergic to cats or dogs, are you?"
She raised a brow, "No? Indi, are you feeling okay?"
"Yes! I have just had a brilliant idea! We should have an office pet! I'm sure the guys would love coming in and playing with a pet while we have our sessions."
She sat back in her chair, chewing at the edge of her pen, "That's not a bad idea. I'm sure Jericho-"
I held up a hand, "As long as its only in this office, he won't care. I'll take the pet home with me every night so it won't be alone and we'll make sure it never goes anywhere in the actual prison."
"Well, if Jericho freaks out, I'm telling him it was all your idea."
"That's fine by me." I marched back into my office determined to find the perfect rescue pet for the task.
Hours later, when I was the only one left in the office, I finally stopped submitting adoption applications and made my way out of the office.
Locking up, I made my way towards the cells.
"Indi, what are you doing down here?" Asked Jackson as I approached.
"I'm just going to check on everyone. Dennison is leaving soon, so I want to say goodbye."
He pursed his lips, "Your main reason for being here is that Denton, isn't it? No need to lie, I'll keep the secret, kid."
I could feel my face flush as I made my way passed him.
I stopped by a few cells, and of course, I stopped by to say my goodbyes to Dennison.
When I stopped at Jax's cell, his creepy cellmate Harry grinned at me.
"Indigo Hart."
"Harry," I pursed my lips, "Jax."
His grey eyes lit up as he came over to the cell bars, "Hey, Indi."
"Hi. I just wanted to come by and see how you're doing."
"I'm doing okay. I mean, I could be better, but that's to be expected in here, right?"
"Yeah... I'll see you tomorrow?"
He nodded, "Yeah... Any news on that meeting?"
"I'll be sorting it out soon."
"Thank you."
I walked away with a smile on my face, and confusion in my head.
What the hell was I doing? And why the hell was I allowing it to continue like this?
