The Immoral Girl
CHAPTER 1
Once upon a time, long time ago in the village of Agu, there lived a wealthy man named chief Okafor. He was the richest man in the village and was respected by all. Chief Okafor had a daughter named Molara. She was the only child of up her parents. She was a mean, proud, arrogant, beautiful and a very intelligent girl. She always come out first at the end of every term in her school. Her beauty was like a shinning gemstone that glitters in the heart of everyone that set their eyes on her. Her beauty was every girl's wish and every boy's heart desire.
Her father was the architect of her arrogant character. Her spoilt her with money. Her mother, Mrs.Imelda Okafor tried all she could to bring her daughter in the best way, but whenever she tries to scold her for her wrongdoings, her father always come in the way.
One day, Molara's mother called her to her room to have a mother to daughter talk with her.
“ Molara, my child, you know you are a very pretty girl, when you come of age, suitors will start coming to seek for your hand in marriage," set forth the mother. “ mom, I know that already but I don't understand why you are still telling me this," Molara said. ” I know that, my child but what I'm trying to tell you is that you should change your behavior towards people. Stop this overbearing attitude of yours. You are a girl and you have to be humble, generous and and respectful. No man would want to marry a disrespectful and scornful girl," her mother explained. ” Mom, what are you driving at? Are you saying that I am a bad girl? Molara asked. ” come on, my child, you know I didn't mean it that way, I was just trying to explain things to you," the mother clarified. ” No, mother, you are indirectly calling me a bad girl and I don't like that," Molara complained and walked out of her mother's presence angrily and that was disrespectful.
Molara went straight to her father's room to complain to him about what her mother had said. ” Daddy, talk to mommy, please, I don't know why she loves to insult me most of the times," Molara complained. ” What is it, my daughter? What has your mother said this time around?" The father queried. “ Dad, Mom called me to her room and started telling me that I am a bad girl, all in the name of advise," Molara complained arrogantly. ” Where is your mother now? The father questioned. “ She is in her room," Molara answered. ” Okay, don't worry, my angel, I will go and talk to your mother, alright?" The father assured. ” Thank you, daddy," Molara appreciated.
Her father went straight to the mother's room to warn her to stop insulting his daughter. “ Why do you have to insult my precious daughter? " Chief Okafor asked his wife. “ Is that what she told you?" The mother questioned. “ That hasn't answered my question," the father set forth angrily. “ My husband, the way you are treating this girl is not right, she needs to be cautioned about her arrogant behavior towards people," the mother set forth. “ And who told you that abusing my daughter is the best form of cautioning?" The father thundered. ” Stop saying as if she is not my daughter too. I am her mother and I have the right to say whatever I want to my child. I can't stay and watch you destroy my only child's future. What kind of a father are you? She is your only child and you have to bring her up in the best way," the mother ventured. “ How else do you want me to bring her up? Am I not doing my best as a father? Am I not giving her whatever she wants? The father questioned. “ That is not how to raise a child. You can't raise a child by spoiling her with wealth only. You have instigate her to be kind, humble, respectful and loving. She is a girl and very soon she will become a woman and suitors will start coming for her hand in marriage. Who would want to marry a disrespectful woman? The mother expounded. “ Don't you dare call my daughter disrespectful in my presence. She is not just any child, she is my precious daughter and this should be the last time you would ever insult my daughter, if not, you will regret ever marrying me in the first place," the father warned. “ Don't say I didn't warn you," the mother spoke and the father stomped out angrily.
CHAPTER 2
Few years later when Molara had turned eighteen, many suitors came asking for her hand in marriage but Molara declined all the proposals saying one ugly thing or the other. Some she will say they are too short, too tall or too poor to have her as a wife. Those that don't have this qualities, she will say they are not handsome enough to marry her.
Her mother was worried about her only child. “ What will become of my only child? How come she is so high-handed and scornful? Oh God! Help my child, please," the mother prayed.
one day, Molara went to the village square with her friend, Chika. Chika was the only girl in the village who could put up with Molara's kind of character probably because her father was also a chief in the village, but was not as wealthy as Molara's father though. There was a festival in the village and Molara had decided to attend. Everyone who knew her avoided her like a plague in the village square to avoid being embarrassed.
A man who was ignorant of Molara's personality and manners admired her beauty and approached her. The man was dressed in faded clothes and worn-out foot wears. He was from a neighboring village.
“ Excuse me, beautiful lady, may I please have a word with you?" The man requested politely. Molara looked at him disgustedly, then he immediately added ” Pardon my manners, my name is Obinna from Umuagu village. May I please have a moment of your time?" ” You want to have a moment of my time?“ Molara repeated in disdain. ” Yes, if you don't mind," Obinna set forth. Many people where surprised at the man's daring approach but they didn't blame him, he was only being ignorant. If he had asked someone from the village before approaching her, it would have been better. But now, he is going to face the embarrassment in the mist of the crowd.
” Who do you think you are that I will waste my precious time with you? Take a very good look at me, do I in any way look like your dirty and miserable type? I can't waste even a second with you, you disgust me, I feel like throwing up. Have you ever seen yourself in the mirror to know how you look?" Molara question mannerless and with disgust. “ I may be poor but I have a heart filled with love and care," Obinna set forth. ” Really? You are definitely an insane man, do you know who I am? In case you don't know, I am Molara, the only child of chief Okafor. The richest man in this entire village. If by chance you ever in your life try as much as approach me again, I will make sure you don't leave with your actual face, rubbish," Molara warned and walked away furiously and in disdain. Chika left after her after apologizing to Obinna. Everyone started to laugh and feel for the poor Obinna. Obinna felt embarrassed to the core and regretted ever approaching her in the first place. He promised to take his revenge on her the bitter way.
Molara was angry to the point that she forgot to wait for Chika. She had to run to catch up with her. ” Molara wait for me!" Chika called out. “ Sorry I forgot to wait for you, that man really irritated me. Can you imagine, a pauper coming to approach me. This is really a shame to my reputation," Molara poured out proudly. ” Molara, don't you think you were too hard on him? Come on, the man didn't even say anything wrong to warrant such embarrassment," Chika set forth. ” Are you taking sides with him or me, your friend?" Molara questioned. “ Come on, girl, I'm not taking sides with anyone, I'm just saying that you were rather too harsh on him," Chika declared. “ He deserve what he got, next time he will think before approaching people who are not in his class," Molara stated. “ I don't even understand what your problem is, the man only said that he wanted a moment of your time not more than that. Instead of you to just say you are not interested, you decided to embarrass him in front of everyone. That's really bad," Chika asserted. “ You know what? If you don't have anything to say other than this miserable man's talk, then keep quiet. Chika didn't say anything further, they only walked home in silence.
When Molara got home, she narrate her father everything that happened. Her father who was not used to opposing her didn't see anything wrong in her reaction. When her mother got to hear of what her daughter did, she was disappointed. She wondered what people might say about her being the mother. People might think that she was not doing her best as a mother. “ What should I do now? I think I should still talk to her, perchance, she might see reason with me," the mother soliloquized. Later on, she called on Molara and she came to her. ” Mom, you called me," Molara said. ” Yes, my child, I want to talk to you about something,"the mother set forth. ” Okay, mom, what is it?" Molara enquired. “ My child, don't you think it's high time you choose from any of this suitors?" The mother asked. ” Mom, I don't like any of them and besides, I don't want to get married now, I want to finish my education up to the university level," Molara said. ” Okay then, as you wish. I heard what happened in the village square today. Why did you shun him so scornfully? The mother enquired. ” Mother, he deserved what he got, how dare he? Mom, you needed to have how he looked, gosh! He really disgusted me and I had no choice but to tell him the bitter truth about his life," Molara stated proudly. “ That was so bad of you, my child. Everyone has a choice to either be good or bad. No matter his social status, you shouldn't have treated him like that. Everyone, regardless social status, look or anything else deserves respect. Because you are of a better social status than him doesn't mean that you have to look down on him. What you did was inhuman," the mother reprimanded. ” Mom, are you trying to scold me again? Why does everything I do irritates you? I thought you are my mother and you are supposed to support me in everything. Why do you hate me so much, mother? I'm your only child for crying out loud," Molara complained. ” I don't hate you, my child, I'm only trying to give you the best advice as a mother," the mother defended. “ I don't need your advice, mother, I'm better off the way I am. I have to go now," Molara stated and walked out angrily.
CHAPTER 3
Few days later, Molara went to her father to tell him about her plan to complete her education in the city. ” Dad, I want to tell you something," Molara set forth. “ Okay, my dear, what is it?" The father asked as he turned to concentrate on her. “ Dad, I want to go to the city to complete my education, I don't want to get married now," Molara stated. “ As you wish, my dear, if that will make you happy, then it's okay by me," the father agreed. ” Really, father? Thank you so much!" Molara stated gratefully. ” It's alright, my darling, anything for my precious daughter," the father commented. “ I love you Dad," Molara averred enthusiastically. “ I love you more. So, which university do you want to study?" The father enquired. “ Dad, I would love to go to Lagos State University if I could get admitted," Molara specified. “ That's very good, you don't have to worry about the admission, I have my ways. I will you admission in few weeks time and then you can start preparing to start studying in the university of your choice," the father assured. “ Wow, that's why you are the best daddy in the whole world, thank you. I'm so lucky to have you as my father," Molara acknowledged happily. “ I'm lucky to have you too, my child," the father stated and gave her a hug. After which she left him and went to share the good news with her mother.
“ Mom, I would be going to Lagos in few weeks time for my higher education. Dad told me that he would fix my admission in few weeks time, I'm really happy, mother," Molara expressed thrilled to bit. “ Are you really happy with this? the mother asked. ” Of course, mother, who wouldn't want to become a city girl? I really want to go study in Lagos State," Molara declared. “ okay then, it's alright by me," the mother obliged with a smile. “ Thank you, mom." “ My pleasure." Molara left her mom's room to hers and started thinking of how she would become a city girl. And having the full freedom means everything to her.
Few weeks later, Molara started preparing to go to Lagos after her dad had secured her an admission in the university of her choice.. Molara wants to study Business Management.
Two days before Molara would go to the city, her mom called her to advice her about her character once again, maybe this time, she might heed to her advice. “ My daughter, I know you might think that I hate you but I don't. You are my one and only child, I can never hate you. Now that you are about to go to the city for the first time, please, be careful. Treat people with respect, love, care and kindness. Treat no one with disparage no matter their condition. I bet you have heard about Lagos and how carefree people are over there. In Lagos, everyone is equal, they don't care if your father is the richest or not. Lagos is a civilized world and you have to be very careful. Be of good character, my child, please," the mother adviced. “ Okay, I have heard you, can I go now?" ” Sure, you can." “ Thank you!" She said and left her mom's room to hers.
“ Why does Mom always tell me to treat people with respect and love? How can I show those disgusting and pathetic people respect, I can't do that. I can't imagine bringing myself down to the level of those poor wretched people. I can't respect anyone. I am Molara, the only child of chief Okafor, the richest man in Agu village. People should be the ones to respect me and not the other way round," Molara soliloquized proudly.
Molara had a send off party a day before she leaves for the city. She invited her friend, Chika and some family members to the party. Few villagers also attended the party. Molara left the village the following day.
CHAPTER 4
Molara arrived the campus safely. Despite her mannerless attitude like someone that has traveled around the whole world, Molara was just leaving her village for the very first to a bigger place, Molara was perplexed, the campus looks so wonderful to her. With the first two weeks, she tried to acclimatize herself with the new environment. Molara made few rich friends who fit into her kind of personality. Inspire of Molara being a proud, arrogant and disrespectful girl, she was still very intelligent. In the first and second semester in her 100 level, she made the best results. In 200 level, she was already an outstanding student. Because of her enchanting beauty, many guys approached her with a friendship request but as usual, Molara told them the bitter truth they never wished to hear. Because of that, no guy summon the courage to approach her again. They distant themselves from her for a special reason of not wanting to be humiliated in front of many students.
Molara was one her way to her hostel one day when a man bumped into her. ” Are you in any way blind? How dare you hit me like that?" Molara thundered angrily. ” I'm sorry, miss, I didn't mean to do that, it was deliberate," the guy apologized. ” Sorry for yourself, the next time you try this with me, you are not gonna like me," she warned and tried walking away but the guy stopped her by introducing himself. ” I'm deeply sorry, miss. Anyways, my name is prince Obinna Ezennaya from Agi village," he introduced. ” Are you truly a prince or just favored to bear the name?" Molara asked. ” I'm actually a prince, a real prince from Agi village," Obinna rephrased. ” oh, wow, you don't look like a prince to me though but anyways, my name is Molara Okafor. The only child of chief Okafor from Agu village," Molara introduced proudly. The prince knew who she was but pretended not to. ” wow, this is so good, it means we are from neighboring villages. Can we be friends? Obinna requested. ” I will give you a try since you're from a well to do family background. So, yeah, we can be friends," Molara affirmed. They exchanged contacts and soon went their separate ways. Unknown to Molara, prince Obinna Ezennaya from Agi village was no other than the same Obinna she had humiliated miserably when he had tried to approach her at the village square.
Obinna was a bright 300 level student in the engineering department. Molara and Obinna became close friends. They go out together few times and Obinna thought that maybe Molara has changed from her ill mannered attitude but Molara still had her bad character hidden inside her and that can't be changed easily except God helps her out.
One day, Obinna took Molara out to a restaurant. He ordered for soda while she ordered for a glass of juice. When the waitress was about to serve her the glass of juice, she mistakingly spilled it on Molara's dress and she apologized immediately.
” Oh my goodness, how dare you? Are you blind?" Molara rebuked angrily and slapped the waitress. ” Don't you dare try this with me ever again, otherwise, you will need a face reconstruction, rubbish," Molara threatened angrily and went out. ” I'm truly sorry, miss, here is the bill," Obinna apologized and handed the bill to the waitress without collecting his change and went after Molara. She was already in the car waiting for prince Obinna to come. Obinna finally came and entered the car. ” What was that all about? How could you be so heartless to slap a fellow woman for a little mistake?" Obinna reprimanded pissed off. ” Didn't you see what she did to my dress? Does she know how much the dress is worth? She deserves what she got, next time, she wouldn't be that careless," Molara declared irritated. ” People make mistakes but that doesn't give you the right to slap her like that," prince Obinna set forth. ” Are you in any way taking sides with her? Anyways, I don't blame you, I blame myself for following you down to a cheap restaurant with a silly waitress, nonsense," Molara stated apoplectic and came down from the car. ” Where are you going?" Prince Obinna asked. ” You are irritating me, so, I am going to my hostel by myself," she set forth and went away. ” This girl will never change, I bet she is feeling that I'm in love with her, but if she knew the slight idea of what she is into, she will depart from that thought," prince Obinna soliloquized and zoomed off. Obinna and Molara refused to talk to each other for days.
CHAPTER 5
A week later, prince Obinna went to Molara's hostel to apologize for his reaction the last time. Obinna knocked at the door and Molara opened up. ” Molara, I am sorry, I shouldn't have raised my voice at you, it was bad on my side to have done that, forgive me, please” Obinna apologized feigning. “ it's fine, I have forgiven you but let it not repeat itself," Molara stated with a smile.
He wouldn't want anything to come between him and his revenge. She accepted the apology and they became close once again.
Obinna graduated a year later and went to Calabar for his youth service. Molara was now in 300 level. Molara and Obinna still maintained their friendship that has led to love according to Molara and revenge according to Obinna. In Calabar, Obinna met a girl named Ifeoma Nnamdi and they became friends. Obinna later fell in love with Ifeoma. Ifeoma was from the same village as Molara but her father was neither a chief nor a wealthy man. He had managed to send Ifeoma to school through the help of his brother. Ifeoma was the first child of her parents. She had a little brother. She was an accounting graduate from the University of Calabar ( Unical ). She was serving in Calabar also. She had finished her studies the same year Obinna finished. They both met at a shopping plaza and from then, their relationship was sure to be a long lasting one. Ifeoma was a good mannered and respectful lady, she was hardworking, pretty and intelligent. She was indeed a wife material.
Prince Obinna soon finished his youth service and went back to his village to celebrate with his people.
By then, Molara had graduated also and was posted to Adamawa for her youth service. He invited Ifeoma to the occasion but she couldn't attend because she had an emergency to attend to in her village. Molara had attended the occasion. Unknown to Molara, the prince was waiting for that special day to execute his plans. He thought of disgracing her on a very important occasion where people are gathered. He believed that if Molara was not taught a lesson, she will never change.
After Molara finished her youth service, she went back to her village. Her parents organized a welcome party for her. Molara visited the prince a day after her welcome party, she met the prince in his chamber. ” Hi!" Molara exclaimed. ” Hi, what are you doing here?" The prince asked. ” Is that how to welcome your visitor? Anyways, I had invited you to my welcome party but you didn't attend, so, I decided to come check up on you to know if all is well," she explained. ” Sorry I couldn't come to your welcome party, have a seat," the prince offered and Molara sat down. He offered her a drink and they chatted for a while before she decided to leave.
The prince proposed to Molara a week later and she happily accepted. They started making arrangements for their wedding. All the preparation was made. The prince visited Molara's parents to seek for her hand in marriage which was gladly accepted. The prince preferred a grand wedding and that was exactly what Molara wanted.
She wanted her wedding to be the talk of the village for a long time. She wouldn't settled for something less, she wanted something lavish wedding that will befit her personality. She invited her friends from the University to come to her wedding. The marriage was scheduled to take place in at the village square in order for people from different places won't find it difficult to locate the venue. Moreover, it was a royal wedding, so, it should be scheduled in a place where people both invited and uninvited could come witness the wedding.
On their wedding day, Molara was beautifully dressed in her wedding attire. The groom on the other hand dressed in faded clothes and worn out foot wears to his occasion, the same way he dressed when he approached Molara for the first time. People were surprised to see him dressed that way but his parents were aware of his plans. He sat down waiting for the supposed bride. Molara's parents were surprised too but decided to keep quiet. Perchance, that might be a tradition or ritual of the royal family. Molara's mother to go and bring her daughter which she did. Molara danced joyfully to the place. When she got there, she was astounded to see the prince dressed that way. ” This is despicable, my prince, how could you dress so miserably to our wedding?" Molara asked arrogantly. I bet she didn't recognize him as the man she had insulted back then when she was eighteen in this same village square. The prince stood up and stated. ” Point of correction, it is my wedding and not yours." ” What do you mean by that?" She queried puzzled. ” Do you remember few years ago when you embarrassed a man so scornfully? It was me, I was the one you humiliated so badly. I felt ashamed of myself to the extent that I promised to take my revenge on you the bitter way. I promised to take my revenge on you in this same village square. The manner of our first meeting in campus, the friendship, the fake love and this marriage was all part of my revenge. I would have forgiven you if only you had changed from your arrogant ways during our friendship. It occurred to me that, if you don't learn your lesson, you will never embrace change in your life. I can never marry someone like you. You are so arrogant, disrespectful and heartless. I planned it on this marriage day in front of everyone to embarrass you the same way you did to me. I never loved you, I don't love you and I never will," the prince poured his heart out bitterly in front of everyone. Molara stood in front of the crowd with tears in her eyes. Her parents felt so embarrassed. Her mom started to cry. The day she had feared had finally come to pass. She blamed her husband in her heart for everything that was happening to her daughter. Her father couldn't say anything to defend his precious daughter because that will bring more shame to them. He bowed his head in regret. He regretted ever supporting his daughter's unacceptable behaviors. Her parents left the occasion in shame. The prince clapped his hands and the guards went to bring Ifeoma and her people. She had also agreed to the prince's decision of the wedding being held in the village square. She dressed so gorgeously in her wedding attire.
She was given a cup of wine by her father to give it to the prince. He drank it and put some currency notes in the cup as per the tradition. He confessed his immense love for Ifeoma in the presence of everyone including Molara who could neither speak nor do anything. ” This is my wife, the love of my life, the apple of my eyes, my soul mate. She is good mannered, respectful, loving and kind hearted," the prince asserted and hugged his wife. Molara soon realized where she was standing and ran out of the place with tears in her eyes and regret in her heart to her father's house.
Molara cried all the day long. Her mother too wept that what she was afraid of has come running in front of her. No one talked to each other throughout that day. The following day, Molara went to her father and quarrelled him for not being a good father to her, for supporting all her wrongdoings. She regretted not listening to her mother.
She regretted ever being arrogant and bad mannered. Everywhere Molara went, people made jest of her as being the rejected bride.
Even her friend, Chika wanted nothing to do with her anymore. Molara felt so bad. Ever since Molara was rejected by the prince on their wedding day, no suitor came for her afterwards. She cried and cried until there was no more tears to shed. ” I have never felt so embarrassed in my entire life, I regretted everything I did. I wish I had listened to my mom. I thought she hated me by correcting my bad doings. How I wish I could turn back the hands of time, I would have been a good girl. Now the only man I loved rejected me because of my character. I have learnt my lesson the bitter way," Molara said amidst her pain. Henceforth, Molara promised to become a good person. She apologized to her mother for all the shame she brought upon her and her father. She went back to the city to start a new life. She promised to always treat people with kindness, love and respect.
