AMIA
I touched my belly again with my hand.
It was only a matter of time before King Orion realized I was carrying a child.
I could not keep hiding this body change for much longer.
It was surprising that nobody in the pack had picked up the baby smell on me yet.
Fear had been growing inside my chest for two whole weeks.
A pregnant omega was always seen as a great gift, and nobody would care that King Orion was not the real father.
Different alphas came into his pack and left all the time, so omegas were never expected to stay with just one partner.
Eventually, Zand would find out the truth, and I was terrified of how he would react.
I did not want to live with a man who felt forced to keep me just out of obligation.
Right now, King Orion was planning to execute Zand.
I had to go tell King Orion that Zand lied to him and hid secrets from him.
Lying to the King was a sure way to get kicked out of the pack forever.
I only had one clear choice left in front of me now.
As soon as I grabbed hold of that choice, my panic started to go away.
It was not a full plan yet, just a single thought.
I knew how to turn thoughts into real steps, and this idea would fix all my problems.
"Amia? Are you listening to me?"
I looked back at Luna and focused on her.
"Are we about the same body size?"
"Same size?"
Luna looked confused.
"Do you mean for clothes? Yes, we are. I might be a little heavier than you right now because I gained some weight."
That answer worked out perfectly for me.
"That is fine. I need you to pack a bag of clothes for me."
Luna looked down at the bag sitting on my bed.
"Okay. I will get whatever you need. Are there no clothes inside that bag?"
The bag was full of clothes, but they were fancy dresses that made me look like the King's omega.
"They are not the right clothes for this. I need sturdy boots and jeans. I need a warm sweatshirt and a raincoat if you have one. Please bring me water and energy bars too. Can you find some cash for me?"
My mind was moving very fast.
I knew how to live on my own, but doing it this time was going to be much harder.
People recognized my face now, and my omega scent was very hard to cover up.
Luna stared at me like I had lost my mind.
For a second, I thought she would say no or run to her mates or King Orion to tell them I was acting strange.
Luna just nodded her head instead.
"Yes. I will get those things for you and anything else you need, but you have to tell me where you are going and why you are leaving."
I could not tell her the real story.
She loved her mates so much, and her mates loved her back just as deeply.
If I told her my secret, her mates would eventually find out and it would come back to harm me.
I did not want to lie to Luna because she was my true friend.
I decided to tell her only a small part of the truth instead.
"I am going to tell King Orion the truth so Zand does not get killed, because he does not deserve to die. King Orion follows old rules. Once he finds out Zand and I are mates, he will give me to Zand, and I cannot stay here. Things are too messy and unsafe for me. I know this sounds crazy, but I have to run away right now. I need a head start so Zand cannot track me down. He is busy with his new pack, but I cannot take any risks. I am sorry to ask you this, Luna, but will you lie to King Orion for me?"
Luna answered right away without waiting.
"Yes, I will. Let me pack your things first, and then we will figure out a plan where I do not have to lie, because someone told me ten minutes ago that I am terrible at lying."
She was telling the truth about that.
"You really are bad at lying. Go pack the clothes now. I will stay here and act scared like King Orion expects me to act in new places."
"The men are eating dinner right now," Luna said. "They have so much to talk about, so we have plenty of time. I am really glad you are here with me, Amia. Everything is a total mess, and I do not know how to fix any of it. I need your advice."
I reached out and gave her a quick hug.
"You are still alive, sweet girl. Everything else can be fixed no matter what happens."
"I think Zand is a good man and a good wolf, Amia. Why do you want to run away from him?"
"I am in King Orion's pack for a reason, Luna. This is the place where broken wolves end up."
Luna walked out of the room.
I pulled my laptop closer and started searching for information.
I had to run away from both King Orion and Zand.
Running from Zand would be easy because he would not waste time coming after me.
King Orion was the real problem because he would never stop searching.
Everyone knew who King Orion was, but standard pack wolves did not know my face yet.
Plenty of people still recognized me, so I had to be careful.
I needed to stay on the outer edges of the big wolf territories and stay far away from the Renegade Hunters Pack.
That was a huge list of dangerous things to handle, but I could do it.
I did not have any other choice.
I had to run.
