She laid on the bed with her gaze settled on the beautiful ceiling. She was lost in thought and she tossed on her bed uncomfortably as she couldn’t catch some sleep.
It’s been two days since she flared up before Daren and ever since then, he hadn’t spoken a word to her. The thought of it made her heart bitter and she heaved a sigh of frustration.
She sat up on the bed as she thought of Jerry. He hadn’t called since their last encounter. What is he up to? She thought.
What if he is planning something stupid? She thought again as she ran her hand into her hair. She stood up from the bed and paced around the room slowly. What if he comes right in front of the whole family and spills the truth about May? She reasoned and her heart began to race.
She thought about Rita and her face pulled into a frown. She was her only companion and the only one she could share her problems with.
The same Rita was the one who had put her into this mess and also backstabbed her. No, she wasn’t going to talk to Rita. Maybe it’s wise to give in to Jerry’s demands directly rather than going through Rita again, she thought.
She reached for her phone on the bed and she called his number. It rang severally but there was no response. She sighed and threw the phone on the bed in frustration.
She scratched the back of her head nervously as she thought of what to do next. Just then, the door opened and Daren walked into the room.
“Lo..ve,” she muttered uneasily as she saw the coldness on his face.
He walked towards the bed and dropped his briefcase on the table.
“Love, you came home early,” she said as she walked to meet him.
He didn’t reply as he took off his jacket slowly.
“Where is my daughter?” He asked, turning to look at her face.
“I..I left her in the living room with Dele,” she revealed.
“She’s not in the living room, neither is Dele,” he spilled.
She shook her head abstrusely and ran out of the room immediately. As she hurried down the stairs, she found the living room empty and there were no signs of Dele and May.
She turned to the stairs where she could see Daren marching down with a frown on his face.
“Where are they?” He asked as he walked towards her.
“I..I left them here,” she stammered.
“Daisy! Daisy!” He yelled and a short plumpy lady appeared in the living room, dressed in a white cotton dress.
“Daisy, I left May and Dele here in the living room, I..I can’t find them anymore!” Melisa cried as she looked at the maid anxiously.
“Oh, I saw madam Diana taking the kids out,” she replied.
“Diana?!” Daren barked.
“Yes, Sir,” she answered.
He began to fume and he reached for his phone in his pocket immediately. He tried her line several times but it wasn’t reachable.
“Where did that jezebel take my daughter to?” He asked no one in particular as he paced around the room slowly.
“I..I think we should call Dotun,” Melisa suggested and he shot her a death stare.
She remained silent and her gaze buried to the floor immediately.
He placed a call through to Dotun and the call was answered after the third ring.
“Hello, do you have any idea where your wife went with my child?” He asked immediately.
“No, have you tried to reach her?” Dotun asked from the phone.
“Her line is not reachable,” he said.
“Then wait for her to come back,” he said and hung up immediately.
“How could you? How could you have left May all by herself so carelessly?!” He thundered as he turned to face his wife.
II..I..,” she stammered as she saw the anger written all over him.
“You what? You were lost again! Oh, yes, you were deep in thoughts again and you left the baby all by herself!” He flared as he marched to the stairs.
“She was here with Dele,” she emphasized as she ran after him.
“Pray nothing happens to my daughter, because I won’t forgive you, Lisa,” he said seriously as he stormed up the stairs.
She remained glued to her spot with her whole body trembling violently.
“It..it’s Diana who took her out. She isn’t going to hurt her would she?” She muttered to herself.

With the little girl in his arms, he stood by the hospital entrance door and he could see the young handsome man in white coat stepping towards the entrance.
“Jerry, Jerry,” the man hailed as they both shook hands.
“Dennis, my man. Please do this sharply for me, I need the results soon,” he urged.
“Wait, who is this little girl if I may ask? Is she your daughter from one of your baby mamas?” He asked with a chuckle.
“Yes, yes. I just need confirmation. Stop dulling and get this done. I didn’t even let her mother know that I’m bringing her here,” he said.
“Okay, we will be done in a few minutes,” he assured and he handed the baby over to him and they both walked into the hospital.
*
Diana rolled down her glass as she saw Jerry stepping out of the hospital gate with baby May. He walked towards the car and the door opened. He stepped into the car and handed the baby over to her.
“Samples have been taken. I will get back to you when the result is out,” he said.
“Fine. Let it be as fast as possible,” she said.
“Sure,” he assured with a nod and stepped out of the car.
Her eyes trailed after him and she could see him walking towards his car which was parked at the other side of the road. Her eyes fell on the fair beautiful lady sitting in front of his car and her face pulled into a frown.
“Rita,” she muttered and sighed heavily before driving away.
**
He stepped into the car and Rita looked at him with a smile.
“How did it go?” She asked.
“Riri, this is my business and it is not your concern," he said sternly.
“Really? I made everything happen. If I hadn’t introduced Melisa to you in the first place, you wouldn’t be bagging this hundred million naira deal,” she pointed out and he kept silent.
“My business with you is over, girl. You blew up our deal and now I’ve got a new deal and you still want to reap from it?” He asked angrily and she laughed.
“Yes of course, I will reap from it because I made it happen. I’m not asking much from you, just 10 percent of the money is what I am asking,” she said.
“You’re sick!” He yelled in her face.
“Okay, fine. You seem to be proving stubborn after all I’ve done for you. I picked you up from the club and gave you a better life, and now you want to repay me badly?” She asked.
“Rita, it’s enough!” He yelled as he slammed his hand on the steering wheels.
“Okay,” she muttered as she kept silent.
“Let the result come out first, before we can be sure of what to do,” he said and she nodded.

“Here you go,” Diana said with a smile as she dropped the baby on the floor and placed the white shopping bag in her hand.
Baby May’s giggles could be heard in the living room as she saw her parents hurrying down from the stairs.
“Da da..da.da,” she called as she threw her frail legs towards Daren who pulled her up from the floor with his eyes fixed on Diana who was smiling as she watched them.
“Where did you take my daughter?” Melisa’s angry voice sounded behind her husband.
“I took her shopping, along with my son,” she said with a smirk as she rubbed Dele’s head.
“Shopping? Without informing her mother? And since when did you decide to take her shopping?” Daren asked angrily as his dark eyes burned into her face.
“Just today. I don’t get the fuss you both are making right now,” she said as she rolled her big eyes.
“Diana, you should have told me before taking her out,” Melisa insisted and she nodded with a smirk.
“It shouldn’t repeat itself again,” Daren warned.
“Oh, I’ve had enough of this drama already,” she said as she yawned and took hold of her son.
“It amazes me how people worry about kids that are not theirs, oh..I need a rest right now,” she remarked and yawned as she walked past him.
Silence fell in and the couple took a slow glance at each other as they were left completely stupefied.
TWO DAYS LATER.
In the passage where he sat, his palms clenched to his knees nervously as he waited patiently for Dennis to step out with the DNA test result. He stood up abruptly as he saw the young man walking out with a white sheet of paper in his hand.
“Hey, Jerry, sorry for the delay,” Dennis apologized.
He flung the paper from his hand immediately and Dennis laughed.
“You need to slow down,” he said with a smile.
As he perused the content of the result, his face pulled into a frown and he raised his head to look at Dennis who made a slow nod. He stormed out of the hospital immediately and hurried to his car which was parked in front of the building. He brought out his phone and dialled Diana's line.
“Hello,” he muttered grumpily as the call was answered.
"Yes, is the result out already?” Her voice sounded from the phone.
“Yes, but there is a little problem,” he spilled.
Silence fell in from the other end and he sighed heavily and licked his lips.
“Whatever the problem is, proceed with the plan,” she ordered.
