The problem

Torrential rain lashed against her body as she stepped out of the car with her daughter firmly in her arms. Her luggage was thrown on the floor beside her and she watched in tears as the car zoomed away. It was dark and cold as she found her way through the empty neighborhood with May in her arms and her luggage beside her. She found a spot under the big trees which serves as a relaxing spot in the estate. She sat on the steel bench under the tree and she could feel only small amounts of raindrops on her skin. She brought out a thick cloth from her box which she used in wrapping May who was terribly cold by now. She began to pant heavily as she looked into the dark rainy night with her body shivering from the cold. The rumbling of thunder could be heard as the rain continued to pour down mercilessly. Her lips continued to quiver and her body trembled as she wrapped her one year old daughter in her bosom. She thought of everything happening in her life at the moment. She had been accused, betrayed and rejected by the family she had worshiped all through the years. She looked at her daughter who was now sleeping peacefully in her arms and she sighed. “I will make them pay,” she said as flashes of lightning appeared in the sky. "They will pay for everything they have cost us," she said as she looked at her daughter who had fallen asleep in her arms. She thought of Daren and how he had kept silent when they were being thrown into the cold dark night. The look on his face had said it all, it was over between them, she thought as the tears streamed down her face profusely. Where will she go from here? She thought as she wiped the tears off her face. Just then, she saw a small white sports car speeding into the estate and the car slowed down along the neighborhood. The glass rolled down and she could see the lady sitting before the steering wheels. Her eyes bulged and she stood up immediately. "Toyo," she called in disbelief. What is she here for? She thought as she wiped her tears and hurried out of the trees. She could see the car parking at a distance and Toyosi stepped out of the car holding an umbrella. "Toyo!!" She called out loudly. She turned in her direction and hurried over to meet her. "Oh my God, I've been searching the whole place for you! Come on, let's get you home," Toyosi urged as she took baby May away from her. Without a word, she ran back to the shades to get her luggage and they both hurried to the car. She sat at the backseat of the car and the car drove away slowly. "Evan called, he told me about the situation and said I should come pick you guys up. May needs warmth at the moment," Toyosi said as she drove along the road. Melisa sniffled and tucked her wet messy hair behind her ears. "Thank you, thank you for coming to my aid," she cried and Toyosi nodded with a smile. * "Ok, that's great. Make sure they both get some warmth. I will be home in a moment," Evan said as he walked to the balcony. He stopped for a moment as he saw Daren who was looking into the open. The rain was still pouring heavily and thunderbolts could be heard. "They're home now with Toyo," he said to him. Daren gulped and turned to look at him. Without a word, he took a sip from his glass of whiskey. "Man, you need to put yourself together. This day will roll by soon," Evan advised as he walked towards him. "And the scar Melisa instilled in my heart, will never go away," he said with a scoff as his red teary eyes looked into Evan's face. "Evan, my life is shattered. I've lost everything I've worked so hard to achieve. Melisa and May were my achievements. And in just one night, I've lost them both,'' he said with a wry smile on his lips. "Where did I go wrong? I was faithful all through the years we spent together. Just tell me, I need to know," he said as the tears streamed down his face again. "Daren, be a man!" Evan consoled as he stood beside him. "I've always been faithful, I've never treated her wrong! Why did she do this to me? Why?!" He roared. "I guess you want me to spend the night over here," Evan said with a sigh as he took his seat on the armchair facing him. He continued to sob silently and Evan watched him as he sobbed for a while. Just then, Charles Boseman walked into the balcony and Evan stood up from his seat. "Oh, Evan, thank you for being here for your friend," he said and he smiled and nodded. "I actually went in search of Melisa and the kid, but they were nowhere around the estate," Charles said anxiously. "Oh, father, they're both at my place. My wife came over to take them home," Evan revealed. "Oh, that's great, especially for the sake of the kid. You know, my hands are tied and I couldn't have let them stay over here till tomorrow," he said with a chuckle. "You've done a lot, sir," Evan said with a smile. "And you, Daren. I need you to be strong," he said as he walked over to his son. "Be strong for yourself and for the sake of your mental health," he advised as he patted his shoulder. Daren kept silent and sniffed. "Evan, if you can spend the night over here, it will be better," Charles said to Evan. "Yes, sir. I will," he said with a nod. * "Your job is done, and here is your pay," Diana said as she handed him the briefcase. "Thank you," he said with a sheepish smile as he opened the briefcase. "And thank you for a job well done," Dotun said from the backseat of the car. "You're welcome," Jerry replied with a smile. He stepped out of the car and Diana watched as he ran through the rainy night towards his car which was parked a few distances away. "Shall we?" Dotun asked and she nodded and ignited the car. She looked out of the car window to where Jerry's car was parked. Her face pulled into a frown as she saw the lady in black jacket stepping into Jerry's car. "Rita," she muttered inaudibly as she drove away angrily. ** "Wow, looks like our cash is ready so soon," Rita said with a smile as she stepped into the front seat of the car. He frowned and looked away from her face. "This is my money, not yours. Stop generalizing it!" He said in a rather high tone. She smiled as she waved her hair backwards. "You know, if you keep proving stubborn, I can still walk up to Melisa and Daren, and tell them the truth. Oh, you think I don't know?" She asked with a scoff. He sighed in frustration and cupped his hand around his chin. "Yes, I will blow everything up, babe. And you know what the Taiwo's family can do to you..," She said with a chuckle. "I will give you your share tomorrow. Go home," he grumbled. "I'm waiting," she said with a smile and he watched as she stepped out of the car. ** They both stood by the glass window gazing at the rainy night. "So, now that we've spent a hundred million keeping Melisa away from the family, what next?" He asked as he took a sip from his wine. "Stay calm, and watch what happens next," Diana said with a smile. "Stay calm? I asked for the company! I need the wine company!" He yelled and she maintained a calm smile on her face. "You think Daren will ever let Melisa go?" She asked and he kept silent. "I don't get it," he said. "Yes, you will never get it," she said as she patted his shoulders. "That's why I say, stay calm," she whispered into his ears and walked away from him while letting out a chuckle. She took a sip from her wine as she stood at the balcony with her phone in her right hand. "Hello," Jerry's grumpy voice came from the phone. "Hello, boy. It's me again," she said with a smirk. "Any problem?" He asked from the phone. "Oh yes, there is. And it seems like your beloved Rita is the problem we have here. I need you to take care of that problem before it causes great harm to our done deal," she said mischievously and silence fell in from his end.
