I'm Sorry...

1000 Words
Anna watched their retreating figures. When they were out of sight, she sighed in frustrations. She was caught in between ashamed and angry at the same time. She perfectly knew the designs were remarkable and the marketing plan was brilliant. She made sure of that, hundred and one percent! It was Mr. Daniels who deliberately wanted to humiliate and punish her for being rude earlier today. And for her that was absurd. "I'm sorry, Marie..." she said apologetically to Marie on their way to the parking lot. "It's okay. Nothing to worry about since this was approved by me, meaning we shared the responsibility and the burden of revising. Plus, I believed your previous encounter with the Boss affected our proposal." she said, smiling but not reaching her eyes. "Yeah. I think so, too." Candy believed so, too. Well, all of them did! "But don't worry. He gave us a week to work it out. We can make it. Cheer up, girl!" Marie tapped Anna's shoulder to encourage her. Marie smiled at her. "Yeah. Right. One week..." Anna sighed. 'One week, I can do it. I definitely can do it!' she repeated in her head like a new mantra. They parted at the parking lot as Anna get in her car and the rest in theirs. Anna drove to Gabriel's parent's house to pick Enzo up. She cannot help but think of the events that happened today. It seems like a long day for her. Anna reached Gabriel's parents' house in less than an hour. She pressed the doorbell. After a while, Susie opened the door. She is the younger sister of Gabriel. She is a sweet lady with a pretty face and simple personality. "Hi, Ate Anna." she said excitedly. She hugged Anna and she hugged her back. The two of them were so closed that they were more like real sisters. "Hello, Susie.. How are you? You looked prettier today." She said. She liked Susie and Susie liked her too. They treat each other well even after that 'incident'. "Yeah. I know... Hahaha." This is what she liked about this girl. so bubbly and so fun to be with. "Come on in. Let's get inside. Enzo is in the living room." Susie invited her and motioned for her to go inside the house. But Anna was hesitant. "I came here to pick Enzo up." Anna said. She wanted to avoid Gabriel and his family as much as she could. "Hi, mommy!" called Enzo running from behind Susie. "There you are..." said Susie chuckling. She ruffled Enzo's hair. "Oh, baby... let's go home? Shall we?" asked Anna while kissing his son's temple. "You're tired, aren't you?" Anna noticed her son slightly sluggish and panting. "You played a lot, I see." she concluded. "Anna, I will get his things. Wait a minute." said Gabriel while standing at the door. She didn't noticed him because she was focused on her son. In response, she just nodded and glanced in his direction. He was still in his long sleeves button-down shirt. With a quick glance, she noticed he has lost some weight. But she shrugged it off as she has no interest in poking her nose on his business. Anna told Enzo to bid Aunt Susie goodbye. Enzo obeyed and kissed her aunt's cheek. Holding Enzo's hand, Anna led Enzo to her car. She opened the door for Enzo to get in. "Fasten your seat belt, baby." Anna reminded Enzo as he sat at the back of the car. Then she waved at Susie goodbye. She waved back and said, "Take care. Drive safely, Ate Anna." Then went back inside the house. Sensing Gabriel is coming, she did not close the door of the car so she can put the things inside. Gabriel loaded Enzo's things inside the car. "Goodnight, buddy." Gabriel said to the boy and gently ruffled his son's hair. And then he gently closed the car door. "Goodnight, daddy..." said the boy waiving his little hands to his dad. Anna entered the car and is about to start the car when Gabriel called her. She looked at him but he didn't say a word. Gabriel's words were stucked in his throat. He has so many things to say but he was either a coward or does not know how and where to begin. Anna, waiting for Gabriel to say a word, saw something in his eyes.. Is he sad? 'Nah. I have no right to care, and I don't care! period!' Anna said to herself. She didn't want to entertain that idea. Whatever he has on mind or what he feels is no longer her concern. Period. "Goodnight, Gabriel. " she weakly smiled to him. Although they weren't friends, at least she wanted to be civil with him. He was Enzo's father after all. "Can I pick Enzo up tomorrow? promise I will bring him straight to your house." He said pleadingly. He was eagerly looking for her anticipating her answer. Tomorrow is not Gabriel's schedule for visiting Enzo. But Anna didn't want to talk to Gabriel that long so she had no choice that to agree. He is a responsible father to Enzo after all. "Uhm.. Okay. It's okay. Sure. Bye." she said in one go. Then she started the car and sped up. A few moments later, they were away and out of Gabriel's sight. Watching his ex-wife and son leave made Gabriel's heart to ache. He had a wonderful family. Had... but he lost it. He didn't value it before. He neglected them and did not cherish them. Now that it's gone, he was full of regrets. You truly realized how important a thing or person in your life is when you already lost them. And he knew exactly what those words meant. He looked sad and gloomy with that thought. "I'm so sorry, Anna." whispered Gabriel still looking at the direction where Anna's car took off. Nobody saw the tear that fell from his eyes.
