The Hidden Luna

Chapter 5 Permission

I was awoken by star ping ponging around my mind. I looked at my clock 4:15pm. “OMG, I am nearly late for my shift!” I almost shouted.

“No s**t darling. I have been trying to wake you up for ages. It’s like trying to wake the dead sometimes!” She said sarcastically. This made me giggle.

“Oh, Star you are so dramatic at times, ya know?” I told her while I got myself sorted ready to head down to the kitchen.

I walked down the stairs and straight into the kitchen, a few of the other omegas were already inside and starting on dinner preparations.

“Hi Chloe. What do you need me to do?” I asked. Walking towards her with a smile.

“Oh, hi Lauren. You’re cutting it close today!” She said with an eyebrow raised. “Is everything ok hunny?”

“Yeah, I just dozed off that’s all. I haven’t been sleeping well lately.” I told her. She looked at me a little worried. “I will be fine. I promise.” I added.

“Ok then. Well could you get started on the desserts please, that’s your specialty here. You know everyone loves them.” She said

“Yeah of course I can.” I told her. I walked over to the cabinet and grabbed the ingredients I needed. I was going to make a few cakes and some more muffins. I scanned the cabinet for the ingredients I needed and noticed the coco powder. “I know I will do a nice big chocolate and cherry layered cake instead of muffins.” I thought to myself.

Once I had all my ingredients I got all the cake tins out too. I started on a basic Victoria sponge mixture and split it between two tins, then placed them into the oven. I started on the second batch of cake mixture adding coco powder and poured that out too. They went into the oven soon after then I proceeded to clean my station. I put out the wire racks ready to place the baked cakes onto, when I had done this and while letting them cool, I started on the fillings for them all. The chocolate cakes were still cooking as they required a little longer as they were deeper.

I finished the two Victoria sponges and sent them out to the desert bar with the service omegas. The chocolate cakes were just about cool by this time. I had done 4 actual cakes and planned to cut each one in half. Each cake would have a total of 4 layers with chocolate cream on two layers and dark cherry compote in the Center layer. I finished the cakes off with chocolate ganache covering the entire things and 3 different types of chocolate shavings on the top.

I took a step back and admired my handy work. I must admit they did look amazing.

“You have really out done yourself this time Lauren!” A voice came from behind me. I spun round to see both the Luna and Chloe stood admiring my cakes. My cheeks began to heat up and I must have looked a right pillock.

“Thank you Luna. I wanted to do something a bit different for the pack today.” I said bringing down my gaze. I wasn’t a fan of any attention by anyone, especially the higher members.

“Well I bet they will love it dear, and call me Natalie please.” The Luna added. She was always so nice to me but I couldn’t trust any one fully.

“How about we take them out together. That way the pack will know who to thank for dessert.” She said. I was going to refuse and ask Chloe if she could take the other cake out for me.

“We need to speak to the Alpha remember.” Star reminded me.

“Ok Luna Natalie.” I replied. Hopefully I could speak to the Alpha privately. Or ask if I could speak to him privately.

I grabbed one of the cakes and the Luna grabbed the other. Chloe walked ahead of us and opened up the service door that led into the dining room. As we walked through the door all eyes were on us. I followed the Luna to the dessert table, making sure to watch my step and not fall or crash into anything.

I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw the Alpha rise from his seat, he started walking towards us as we set the giant chocolate cakes on the table. I really hated being watched but I needed to speak to the Alpha.

“These cakes look amazing Lauren. To what do we owe the pleasure of extra cakes?” He asked jokingly. I am not sure if he sensed it or not but he calmly placed his hand on my shoulder, making me look up to him. He was taller than average at 6ft4 ish.

“Would I be able to have a meeting with you after the dinner service please, Alpha?” I asked quietly but rapidly. “I finish my work at 8pm.” I finished off.

“Of course, Lauren. Is everything ok? Would you like to go talk in my office now?” He answered. A worried expression on his face.

“No, thank you. Everything is fine I would just like to talk to you about something if that is ok Alpha?” I replied a little too fast. A look of relief washed over his face, but the concern was still there.

“Yes, that is fine. I will be in my office until 9pm, so come find me after your work is finished. Is that ok?” He questioned.

“Yes that would be perfect. Thank you very much, sir.” I answered him. “Now if you will excuse me, I must get back to work.” I added. With that I bowed my head and turned away and I walked back to the kitchen. I walked through the swinging door and took a deep breath as I got to the other side. The rest of my shift went past in a blur. I cleaned all my items I had used and wiped down my station. I started on the dishes, working quietly. The last few plates and bowls arrived at 7:30. I got to work washing them when the Luna came in with two empty cake plates. There were reminisce of chocolate ganache on them and she had a large grin on her face.

“The chocolate cakes were beautiful dear. Everyone loved them.” She told me. Even the plates had finger wipes in them.

“I am glad everyone liked them, Luna Natalie.” I said giggling in return. As I took the plates from her, I saw the words ‘THANK YOU’ wrote in the remaining chocolate ganache on one of them. I really did giggle at that, and the Luna joined in to.

I placed the plates into the sink and began washing them, smiling to myself. As I was drying them off, I looked at the clock 7:55pm.

“Don’t you have a meeting to get to Lauren?” Chloe said.

“Yeah, I do actually.” I replied looking at her. “Do you mind if I get myself cleaned up and leave?” I pleaded.

“Yeah, of course. You get yourself cleaned up hunny, and I hope everything is ok?” She said looking at me with a questionable look.

“Thank you so so much Chloe, and everything’s fine.” I thanked her with a hug.

I washed my hands and face In the communal bathroom on the ground floor. I put my hair up in a messy bun. Looking in the mirror making sure I looked ok. I was never really satisfied with my looks but it never actually bothered me too much.

“Let’s get our asses moving Lauren.” Star was pacing in my head. She was anxious as hell; I was nervous as hell.

“Ok Ok. Let’s go.” I walked out the bathroom and walked towards the stairs. I made sure to watch where I was going lately. I made it to the Alpha floor and stood at the top of the stairs catching my breath. It wasn’t every day I had to walk all the way up. I normally stopped on the second floor not go all the way to the top.

I turned left down to the Alphas office and when I reached the large oak door, I knocked 3 times.

“Enter.” Was all that was said from the other side.

I entered the room and the beauty was astonishing. There was natural wooden surfaces all around the room and large paintings on 3 sides of the room. On the back wall there was a mural of a black wolf howling to a blue tinted moon. It was truly a beautiful room.

There was a clearing of a throat that brought me back to my senses.

“I am so sorry sir.” I quickly said. Making my way over to his desk.

“I don’t recall you ever coming into the office apart from the day you arrived here.” The Alpha said with a small smile. “Now, how may I help you, Lauren?”

I began fidgeting with my fingers. I was really nervous for some reason. “I wondered if I may be allowed to use the packs gym please sir?” I said rapidly. I looked down at my hands and waited for a response or rejection.

“Lauren, may I ask why you would want to use they gym before I make my decision?” He asked. I should have seen this question coming really.

“Well I like to take walks, out into the woods and forest often. It’s nice to be out in the open air sir. I just wanted to be able to fight or stand a chance if anything was to happen while I was out there.” I answered honestly. Well it was close to the truth really.

“I can see your point Lauren, and with your background I completely understand.” He said. I was getting really nervous now.

“He hasn’t said no yet!” Star said. This reassured me slightly.

“How About we make a deal?”he asked.

“What kind of deal?” I returned questionably looking at him and raising my eyebrows.

“How about you work for us full time as our head baker in the kitchen, and you can use the gym whenever you need!” He bargained.

“I have a couple of questions first, if that’s ok?” I replied. The Alpha nodded his head. I could do this but needed it on my terms and needed to ask a few questions. Just to make sure it was worth it.

“First, What would the difference be from me working as I do now to becoming head baker?” I didn’t give him time to answer just yet. I needed to ask a few things. “Second what would the hours be if different to my current hours I work, and finally could I use the gym at a time that suits me?” I paused and waited for him to respond.

“First answer is you would be in charge of all the baking of sweet treats, cupcakes, cakes and any other things you wanted to make. This would also include you ordering any items you would need in order for you to complete this task.” He said waiting for me to respond. I nodded my head. I could do that easy.

“Secondly you can draw up your own hours that we can discuss in the next few days, but we would love to have some muffins with most day’s breakfast as they were delicious and a welcome treat. With that said you can take every other weekend off completely after your order has been put through to the supermarket on Saturday mornings.” He continued without letting me answer that but it was a good deal for definite. “And finally you can attend the gym as and when you want as long as you sign in and are responsible for your health and well-being. You will also receive your own locker and I will get you some correct gym wear to use when you are in there.” He finished. “Do you think this is manageable for you?”

He must have noticed my smile and began smiling himself.

“Yes sir, I believe that is totally manageable. I will work on my hours for you tonight and let you know first thing if that is ok.” I was actually overjoyed with the deal. I felt I was getting the better part of it. Star was running round my mind wagging her tail furiously and leaping around. She was happy too. I thanked the Alpha for his time and made my way out of the office. As I got to my floor, I practically skipped to my bedroom door. I entered my room, locked the door and shouted yes as loud as I dare.
