“Chloe, not yet!” Lauren said sternly. She nodded and smiled. Lauren said goodbye to me, and they both headed down the stairs to the kitchen. I watched them until they went round the banister. I walked to my father’s office and entered it. The lights were all off, so I knew he was still in bed. I walked round the desk and sat in the chair that would soon be mine.
