I waited in the kitchen talking to Chloe. It was almost 8:30 and our delivery was due. We planned on helping each other to put away our items. Chloe had offered to help me the first few times and introduce me to the delivery driver. She had said he was a great guy and we needed to tell him about the changes, so he knew whose both were.
“So, what are you planning on baking for breakfast tomorrow?” She asked me.
“I was thinking about muffins in the morning and cakes for lunch and supper. There are so many different muffins to do and try.” I told her.
“That’s a good idea hunny. Would you be doing some pancakes at some point too. I think they would go down a treat.”
“Yeah. We could try some tomorrow as well, with a selection of fresh fruit and syrup, but I didn’t order that much fruit and no syrup.” I told her a little bummed out. It sounded like great plan.
“Well I have extra fruit we can use and possibly some honey. Would that work?” She asked.
“Yeah we can definitely make that work. I can do some plain muffins and some pancakes to try.” I said starting to look forward to it.
“Can I come for breakfast?” A man’s voice said. Me and Chloe both screamed in shock. Star came to the front for a split second, but I managed to hold her back. Hopefully he didn’t notice.
“Bert, you scared us stupid!” Chloe said with her hands on her chest. I was breathing rapidly and was shaking a little.
“I am so so sorry Miss Chloe.” I didn’t mean to startle you at all. I should have announced myself, rather than just jumping in the conversation.” The man said. He seemed really sincere with his apology. Chloe knew him so I calmed down a little.
“Bert I would like to introduce our new head baker,Lauren.” She said gesturing to myself. I placed my hand out to shake his hand.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Bert.” I said trying to sound unscathed from our recent heart attack.
“The pleasure is all mine, Miss Lauren.” He replied. I think he was trying to sound flirty, but I am not sure.
“I get a bad vibe from him Lauren. Be careful!” Star said in my mind.
“I will be Star, don’t worry.” I told her.
I took my hand back and took a step back, hoping that the man would give us our order and leave.
“So a head baker, definitely explains all the ingredients and items that have been ordered. And your idea of pancakes sounds amazing. Wish I could come for breakfast.” He said with a laugh. Chloe laughed with him and I smiled.
“Right then Bert shall we start unloading it all on the island and myself and Lauren can start putting things away.” Chloe said moving the attention off me thank god.
“Well I have brought the items first for you and then we can fetch the ingredients after. There is a few trips but got it all for you as normal.” He said. He began taking plastic trays off his trolley and placing them on the counter.
Me and Chloe started to unpack the trays and placed the items around the kitchen for now. The bigger items were heavy but we got all the trays unloaded by the time Bert had fetched the next 4 trays for unpacking. I passed him the 3 empty trays and began to unload the ingredients. These 4 trays were all our regular ingredients for our meals, so putting them away was quick and simple. We had unpacked 3 of the 4 trays when Bert got back with another 4 trays.
Two were our normal stuff and two were new ingredients I had ordered. We put the normal stuff on one side of the kitchen and the other stuff on the other side. I had no idea how I was going to put it all away. Bert came with the last 3 trays and he helped us unpack them and place the items on the other side of the kitchen.
He grabbed his empty trays and passed us our order receipts. We thanked him and he left.
“Thank god he’s gone!” Star exclaimed.
Chloe went to her side of the kitchen and finished putting her stuff away rather quickly. I looked at all the items I had ordered and started sorting it all into groups. I placed them in the cupboard in the groups and the stuff I used more often would be easily accessible. The ingredients that were going to be used less often went at the back. I put everything I would need for the morning on the bottom shelf.
“Ok, I think you have OCD hunny.” Chloe said as she looked at my organisation of items.
“Is that a bad thing.” I asked giggling a little.
“No not at all. It’s very organised. It’s just for you to use so you have it how it’s best for you.” She answered.
“Shall we start putting the other items away?” I asked.
We both turned and looked at the stack of things, and looked back at each other.
“Let’s get a move on shall we?” I asked. We both started to unpack the stuff and put them in places so they would not be in the way. It didn’t take us long to finish the job and we got all our items cleared away and rubbish put into bags. I offered to take the rubbish to the bins out back so they would not be in the way in the morning. Chloe agreed begrudgingly.
When we had finished the job we both sat down with a cup of hot chocolate to relax a little. I looked at the clock and gasped. 10:27.
“Oh my god it’s really late. I am sorry for keeping you up Chloe.” I said apologetically.
“Don’t worry about it. I am normally up till late on delivery days anyway.” She replied.
“Well, thank you very much. I don’t think I could have got it done without you.” I told her. We finished our hot chocolate, and both headed up to our rooms. We parted ways at the top of the staircase. As I turned right Star became uptight and alerted. The scent hit me as I got to my room door.
This time the scent relaxed me more than anything.
I entered my room and turned on the light. I shut my door at record speed and turned the lock. That’s when I turned around and looked around my room.
“The scent is in here Lauren. Let me see!” star demanded. I closed my eyes briefly and opened them again. It was always strange when I let Star out compared to when she forced out. When she forced out, I was pushed back and was looking through my eyes as a second person. When I allowed her to see we shared our vision as one.
We started scanning the room assessing everything. Nothing had been touched at all. That’s when I saw it. On my draws was my drawing pad, the one I had dropped. We walked over to It cautiously. It looked completely intact.
“Star, we have been found. What do we do?” I started to panic and felt like I couldn’t breath. I shut my eyes and fell backwards to the corner of my room.
