Chapter Two  'Hey, thank you so much for taking the girls out yesterday.' Danni smiled, taking another sip of her drink and lighting up a cigarette. 'Dan, you know I don't like you smoking in the house. It's bad for Rory'. She smiled and rolled her eyes before sliding off the bar stool and making her way over to the sliding glass doors that lead out into the back garden. The girls were in Pre-School at the moment, giving me and Danni some time to chill for a bit. 'So, how you holding up?' She asked. I looked at her and laughed silently. 'Danni, I have been raising that girl alone for nearly four years. What do you think?' She smiled. 'I just wish Adam was here some times to help, but, of course, he can't'. I frowned and looked away from her so she wouldn't see the sadness on my face, a sadness that has been there since the day he left. 'You know you've always got me, right?' 'Yeah, I know, Thanks' She smiled and leaned over to one arm hug me. 'Any way, I'm getting my mom to look after Anna-Lin tonight, do you want me to ask if she can have Rory too? Then we can go out properly for the first time since...well, ever' I smiled. 'Sure' We headed out on to the patio in the garden. The garden was big, probably had every toy ever made in it. Climbing frames, toys, even a little tree house. Probably every child's dream. 'She's been asking about him again' I admitted. 'Oh Honey, What did you say?' 'That he will be home soon' She huffed and tutted. 'I know, but I can't stand seeing her so upset like that. It breaks my heart'. 'I know it does. But, they will be back soon, right? I just try not to think about it and then that way, it goes quicker' I smiled, but thought it over in my head. ‘Look on the bright side, at least they will be home for good then’.  ‘Will they?’ I tended to get very emotional, defensive and annoyed when we got onto this subject. 'I know. Johnny's the same with Anna-Lin' 'Well, at least Johnny got to see her grow up more. Adam just... Look, can we change the subject please'. She nodded. 'Sure. So, what are you making for dinner tonight?' I looked at her, eye brow raised and smiled. 'What?' 'Nothing. Hey, what time is it?' '12.36. We have an hour yet. Hey, isn't it Rory's 4th birthday soon?' I nodded. 'Yep, it seems like just yesterday she was a little new born baby. The time flies doesn't it?'. 'It does'. We started talking about little things when the phone rang. I excused myself from my conversation with Danni and headed inside to see who it was. 'Hello?' 'Megz, Baby, it's great to hear your voice!' A smile quickly ran across my face as I heard his voice. 'Adam, Honey, I have missed you so much!.' I could hear yelling in the back ground and the sound of metal clanging. Guess its madness there... 'So, how are you?' He asked. I really have missed the sound of his voice. 'Busy. When are you coming home? I miss you so much' 'I know babe, I know. How's Rory?' I heard a slightly high pitch in his voice as he said our daughter's name. He had changed the subject, as he always does. 'She's fine. Again, she misses you so much, Adam.' He was silent on the other end. 'How long have you got to talk?' Normally he can only get away for a few minutes. 'Um...I have to go in a minute' He was sad again. 'I'll try and phone you tonight though.' 'Ok, How are the guys holding up?' 'Their OK, I guess.' I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. 'I miss you'. 'I miss you too'. I heard some one yell his name in the back ground. 'I have to go now. I love you'. 'Love you too'. 'Give Rory a big hug and kiss for me please?' I smiled sadly to myself. 'I will. I promise, she's going to be sad she missed your call.' 'Tell her her daddy misses her and is thinking of her’.  'Of course. Bye Ads’. 'Bye babe' And that was it. He was gone again. I wish he hadn't said he will try and call tonight. Every time the phone rings now, I'll think it's him. I won't want to go out of the house for the rest of the day in case he phones and I'm not here to pick it up. Why can't we have a normal marriage? I put the phone down and tried to straighten out my face before I made my way back out side to Danni.
