Jayden pov
-"By the look on your face I would say it didn't went well?"
My gama people - Sherlock Holmes!
Just kidding. Gama Gregory is one of the most valuable people around me in past five years.
-"Up for a drink maybe Alpha?"
He asked while still holding car door open and waiting for me to get in.
-"I'm not sure about that Greg. Hades is a bit agitated, maybe it's not a good idea".
I tried to reason myself more than him.
-"Then when we reach home. Oh btw, your mother called during your meeting".
Greg continued while getting behind the wheel.
-"What she wanted now?"
If I keep rolling my eyes I'm afraid they will get stuck at some point.
-"Not much. I'll quote-just checking..." Greg took deep breath before he finished sentence in one go. "And you could visit your estranged cousin while you're here".
And there it is. I knew she wanted something.
Not that I would mind visiting Bee, but like it's said, she is estranged. And I don't blame her for that honestly. Many would run for the hills like she did after what her own mate put her through. And to think he was supposed to be my beta, my best friend once upon a time.
-"Drive straight home. I'll text her that her aunt said hi, and I'll figure something out to tell mom".
I told Greg and pushed my seat a bit down so I can take that nap I planned.
-"Everything ok there Alpha?"
Greg is really asking to be slapped these days.
-"How many times I have to tell you not to call me that?"
I'm not the Alpha, my father is. Greg and Dominic (my new future beta) are the only ones that know certain details about my whole situation. One of those is not to call me Alpha. There are some things not even my parents know.
-" You keep ignoring the fact that when I joined the pack almost five years ago, I took my oath to serve you. My loyalty lies with you, so therefore you are my Alpha, whatever you like it or not".
He muttered that last few words. He was right tho. When he came to our borders, with nothing but some old rags on his back, and explained what his intentions are, before anyone pounced on him because he was rouge, he pledged his loyalty to me. Not my father nor any of elders, but me.
Till this day, only explanation I got is "My wolf told me".
Soon enough, he proved himself worthy in more ways than one. He was strong and wise, but refused Beta position. Apparently, his place is to guard and protect his Luna. I wanted to die out of shame back then. How to explain to your loyal subject that he is not going to be a Gama because there will never be a Luna for him to guard.
*flashback *
We were in my office to discuss Greg's refusal of Beta title. Didn't want to make it awkward in front of the whole pack.
-"Are you nuts Greg?"
-"You don't understand Alpha..."
-"You can bet on it" I interrupted him. "Only crazy person could understand why is someone like you refusing to take title of next Beta. Beta Greg, not Gama. I don't need Gama".
-"But you will one day. I can wait"
Was he trying to reason with me? Good luck with that buddy.
-"Don't hold your breath Greg. There will be no Luna for you to guard. Not now not ever. I'm mateless. Just take the damn position as Beta so we can move on with ceremony".
There! Cat's out of the bag. I sat there on the couch with elbows on my knees and head in my hands, waiting for, I don't know what. But I certainly didn't expect what came next from his mouth.
-"I understand you might not want to believe what I'm about to say, but at least just hear me out please. Few years back, before my world crumbled, I saw her. During my one early morning hunt I saw the Godess". He took a deep breath before he continued. "It took a lot of strength to not piss my pants there and then, but I know what she told me. You need to protect your Luna. Your soul will guide you. So I know I'm not to be Beta Jayden. It doesn't matter if there's no Luna right now. Godess wouldn't lie. There will be a Luna and I will do everything in my power to help you find her and keep her safe. Let me be your Gama because my soul led me to you".
*end of flashback *
To say I was shocked would be a understatement. I was mute so I just nodded. We continued the ceremony, Greg was made a Gama. Now, he would follow me everywhere around trying to find our Luna. In four years we visited a lot of places, but still no luck.
He knows my truth, but not her name. I could never say her name since the day she disappeared. I feel like I would die if I say it even in my mind. So I just explained my princess to Greg and Dom. Beautiful light brown hair, like some silky milk chocolate, and gorgeous green with a bit hazel eyes still haunts my dreams.
It's my fault that she's gone. I lost my princess and now I have to live with it for the rest of my life.
