Bound by Fate
I stood in front of the mirror, smoothing the crimson gown over my hips. The fabric hugged me, clinging to every curve with a perfect fit. I had chosen this dress carefully, knowing tonight had to be flawless. This wasn’t just about Prime becoming Alpha—it was about us, about the mate bond we shared, and the announcement that would tie us together in front of the entire pack. After tonight, everything will change. I ran my hands through my hair, twisting a few strands into place. My fingers shook slightly, betraying the nerves I refused to admit I felt. I could hear the noise of the gathering already filtering through the halls—wolves from both our packs mingling, celebrating, unaware of the storm brewing inside me. The reflection in the mirror stared back, strong, determined. The Luna I was meant to be. The Luna Prime needed, whether he realized it yet or not. He’s mine. I repeated the words silently, like a mantra. But no matter how many times I said them, a knot twisted in my stomach, tightening more with each thought of her—the woman from the weaker pack. The one who still had a piece of Prime’s heart, no matter what the mate bond said. My jaw clenched at the thought of her, the way she hovered around him as if she had some claim. She doesn’t. Not after tonight. Tonight, they’d announce our union. Everyone would know. Prime would know. I inhaled sharply, then exhaled, forcing myself to calm down. I had to focus. There was no room for doubt. The door creaked as I pushed it open, stepping out into the corridor. The soft echo of my heels clicked against the floor, mixing with the rising excitement that filled the air. The grand hall was just up ahead, its entrance flanked by tall, carved wooden doors. My pulse quickened as I approached. Wolves from both packs milled about inside—those loyal to Prime’s pack and those from mine, brought together by our families to strengthen the bonds between us. The tension was palpable, like a current running beneath the surface of the celebration. The future of both packs rested on this night, on the union between Prime and me. But as I reached the doorway, my steps faltered. She was there. Standing too close to where Prime would sit, her back straight, her gaze lingering on him. My blood heated at the sight of her, the way her smile curled, like she knew she still had a hold on him. Of course, she would find a way to place herself near him. My fingers tightened into fists at my sides, but I forced myself to breathe. I couldn’t let her get under my skin. Tonight wasn’t about her—it was about me, about Prime, about the bond that tied us together. Focus. I squared my shoulders, lifting my chin as I stepped into the hall. The soft murmur of voices barely registered in my mind as I scanned the crowd for him, my eyes moving past unfamiliar faces until they landed on him. Prime. He stood at the front, surrounded by his father Philip and the elders. His broad shoulders and commanding presence drew the eyes of everyone in the room. My heart pounded harder as I took him in, the sharp cut of his jaw, the way his dark hair fell slightly over his eyes. His gaze swept across the hall, and for a split second, our eyes met. The mate bond hummed between us, a magnetic pull that tightened in my chest. There was always that spark when we locked eyes, that reminder that we were meant for each other. But then he looked away, his expression unreadable, his focus shifting back to the crowd and the ceremony about to begin. I bit the inside of my cheek, frustration building. Why does he keep resisting this?
“Tonight, we gather to honor tradition and welcome the new era of leadership,” Philip, Prime’s father, announced, his voice strong, commanding attention. Philip had always been a significant figure in the pack, and his presence dominated the room. His eyes scanned the crowd as he addressed them, standing beside Prime like a guardian of his future. The weight of his words set the room alight with anticipation.
“Prime will lead this pack into the future,” he continued, his voice booming through the hall, “with strength and loyalty as our foundation.” The crowd erupted in cheers, but I barely heard them. My eyes remained fixed on Prime. I could feel the tension between us, the unspoken words, the desire I knew he buried deep. He couldn’t deny it forever. The bond between us was too strong, too ancient to ignore. I just had to get him to realize that.
“And as we move forward, our unity with the other pack strengthens. Tonight, we announce the union of Prime and Amore, bound by the mate bond, destined to lead together.” My breath caught. There it was—the declaration I had been waiting for. The words that should have sealed our future. The crowd murmured in approval, but my focus was entirely on Prime. His eyes found mine again, lingering for a moment longer this time. I held his gaze, willing him to see me, to feel the truth of what we were. But then his jaw tightened, his gaze flickering toward her. Her. The woman standing just a few feet away, too close, her presence like a shadow creeping into the moment that should have been mine. Why can’t he let her go? My heart thudded against my ribs, frustration and jealousy twisting inside me. The bond between us was undeniable. I could feel it, could sense the pull in every glance, every shared moment. But it was as if he was fighting it, torn between his duty to me and whatever lingering attachment he still had to her. I couldn’t let that happen. I wouldn’t. As the cheers died down and the ceremony continued, I made my decision. I would make him see it, make him feel it. He needed to know that no one could come between us. Tonight was just the beginning. If I had to seduce him, break down his resistance piece by piece, I would. He would be mine, fully, completely. No matter the cost.
