Chapter 1: Betrayed and Reborn
Darkness. Silence. Then, pain.
A searing, unbearable pain burned through my chest as the cold steel of a dagger pierced my heart. My breath came in short, ragged gasps as my legs gave out beneath me. The marble floor beneath me felt colder than ice, but it was nothing compared to the frost creeping into my veins.
Above me, standing like a victor over a fallen foe, was Adrian—my most trusted friend, the man I once considered a brother. His golden eyes, which once held admiration and loyalty, now shone with triumph and cruelty. The dagger in his hand dripped with my blood, and his lips curled into a smirk.
"You were too blind, too trusting, Your Highness," he sneered, his voice laced with mockery. "You never saw it coming, did you?"
I wanted to respond. To curse him. To demand an answer. But my body refused to obey me. My vision blurred, and all I could see was the woman standing behind Adrian—my sister, Lilia.
My sweet, innocent Lilia.
Her emerald eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but she did nothing. Said nothing.
"Why…?" I choked out, my voice barely above a whisper.
She turned away.
That was the last thing I saw before the world faded to black.
The End… or So I Thoughtful
Death should have been the end. I should have descended into the abyss, my soul swallowed by eternal darkness.
But I didn’t.
Instead, I awoke with a sharp gasp, my heart pounding violently in my chest. My hands clawed at my torso, expecting to find a fatal wound—only to feel smooth, unbroken skin. No pain, no blood, no dagger.
The air around me was warm, familiar, filled with the scent of burning incense and fresh parchment. My mind screamed in confusion as I took in my surroundings.
I was back.
Back in the grand palace of the Kingdom of Eldoria. Back in the very room where I had once stood before my rise to power. The mirror on the far side of the chamber reflected a younger version of myself—my body leaner, my face untouched by the scars of betrayal.
Then, the realization struck me like a thunderbolt.
I had been reborn.
I staggered back, my breath catching in my throat. Was this some kind of cruel illusion? A dream? Or had the gods truly granted me a second chance?
Memories of my past life flooded my mind—the treachery, the betrayal, the pain of my death. But now, all of it was still in the future.
This was before Adrian’s rise, before my sister’s betrayal.
Before my fall.
I clenched my fists, a storm of emotions raging within me. If fate had given me another chance, I wouldn’t waste it.
This time, I wouldn’t be blind.
This time, I would strike first.
