chapter 1
"GRRRRRN!"....." GRRRRRN!".
got on the alarm repeatedly which was kept on a wooden box next to Alexia's bed.
It rang and vibrated with so much frequency that it made her almost jump out of bed from impulse.
"I HATE YOU!"......" CRANKY ALARM"!.
Alexia cursed loudly still lying down lazily on the bed with eyes still shut, not wanting to wake up yet, but she knew she had no other choice.
It was a regular in the house but the little girl never seems to get used to the impact of the old alarm clock made out of metal body.
Though it is beginning to rust, it still works perfectly fine.
Now awake but still feeling sleepy, she yawned and stretched her body while raising both hands in the air with a closed fist at the same time, slowly blinking and gradually opening her eyes to step out of bed.
She dragged the bedsheets off herself and was ready to step down and put on her footwear.
With her tiny eyes still not open, she was using the feel of her toes to locate her footwear.
She already knows where they will be and she normally finds them even without needing her sight, but they seem not to be in their supposed position……strange.
she thought to herself.
This sudden realization increased her adrenaline level and pushed every sleepy feeling away from her eyes.
Alexia opened her eyes with one swift move trying to figure out why her footwear was not where it ought to be.
She had always relied on her sixth sense occasionally and It has never let her down before, so it made her wonder why today is turning out different.
The moment her eyes were fully open, she couldn't help but think that her mind was playing games with her.
There was nothing she could see in the room, it was pitch-dark!
This is already looking like it's gonna be a bad, long day for her.
She moved with her hands on the bed to know if she wasn't dreaming and it turns out she isn't.
The room was entirely covered with thick darkness that gave Alexia the feeling that she had gone blind.
She was still trying to process all of this together when the alarm went on again and caught her off-guard.
The creepy and loud recurring sounds of the alarm sent chills to her body.
It made her tremble with fear like a helpless prey before its predator, cutting her off from her thinking and bringing her back to reality while she still sat on the edge of the bed with her barefoot on the cold floor.
Still jiggling and bewildered, she vowed to destroy the alarm whenever she could lay hands on it, not minding anymore if it was a gift that her dad got from Grandma.
It has put her into so much misery already when her day had hardly begun.
Her eyes were shuffling from left to right but she couldn't see anything, not even the faintest ray of light.
It was at this moment that she remembered that she wasn't supposed to be alone in the room.
"Phil"! …. Phil!.....?"
she called out and paused, hoping for a reply from her big brother, but she was met with an awkward silence.
"Phil, are you there?" She tried again.
"Say something please, am scared and don't know
what happened to the lights"!.
she said in such a worried tone that she knew would prompt Philly to reply to her even though he may be trying to play tricks on her but she was met with the same silence.
Now, Alexia knows her brother to be an early riser who probably doesn't need the alarm to wake him up daily, but even if he was still asleep, there's no way he could be inside this room that he wouldn't have heard her calling out to him.
She decided to call out to her parents instead.
"Mom!.....dad!"?.
she cried at the top of her voice but none of them seems to be close by.
"Philly, are you there?"....are you…?"!
"GRRRRRN! … .went on the alarm yet again, catching her off-guard furthermore.
"Oh no!", not again"!.
she exclaimed with so much hate towards the alarm.
"Do you have to make all that noise every five minutes?"...I can't concentrate with all that pestering!"
she said with anger.
Alexia is now beginning to get worried.
"Where is everyone?", what's happening?".
she thought, trying to process the whole situation, but nothing makes any sense to her.
Going through her mind the previous night, everything was peaceful.
Mrs. Hailey Lewis, their mom, came into the room to tuck Philly and herself to bed, she kissed them softly on their forehead before covering the blanket on them and then left for the door.
"Goodnight sweethearts!", sweet dreams!''.
she said while throwing a kiss at both of them.
"Goodnight, " said Philly.
"Love you momma" Alexia uttered while throwing the kiss back.
"Love you too, Alexia"!.
Momma said with a smile on her face while holding the door open getting ready to step out.
"Catch you guys first thing tomorrow morning"!
She said, and with that, she closed the door behind her and all Alexia could hear was her receding footsteps as she walked away to her bedroom.
Alexia always wanted to sleep in between mom and dad when she was still a toddler.
it made her feel so secure and comfortable, but that was in the past, she gropes that she isn't a crybaby any longer.
Not anymore because she's 8 years old at the moment.
Alexia shook her head vigorously as if trying to get her mind to focus on what was happening at the moment.
After several minutes of trying to connect all the dots, nothing still made any sense, her mind was running wild with vast imaginations.
"Could it be that they all went out without me"?.... She thought.
"No, it can't be," she reassured herself.
She knew how loved and united her family is and they do things together without leaving no one behind.
It's unprecedented as far as she knows.
When all positive ideas don't suit the situation, it mails her mind into a negative frenzy which results in her brain feeding her with horrible possibilities.
It sent chills down her spine and she began perspiring and hoping that no harm had come to the other of her family.
"Did we get attacked last night while I was asleep?" She thought.
"I didn't hear any sound of breaking in!".
Alexia is now getting hot as her breathing increased due to fear and panic of the unknown.
She decided to find her way to the other side of the room where Phil's bed lies.
Alexia, with caution, stood up from the soft bed, armed with the design and arrangements of the room in her head, decided to traverse around the room, using the image of the room in her mind as a guideline now that her eyes aren't really useful at the instant, she began her adventure.
With her hands stretched out ahead of her, and her feet following step after step towards Phil's bed, she kept walking with the sleekness of a cat.
No sound can be heard in the room, except for her heart which was pounding like it would burst out from her chest.
After a while of walking like a thief trying to avoid the cops, she successfully got to Phil's bed with ease.
