Thoughts
“What do you even see in this guy?”, Kendra asked still surprised. “Like... I heard how he beat his ex girlfriend nearly half to death, I don’t want the same for you Rona”.
“I just feel like he’s different, things have changed for him ever since he came out of jail, I’d like to give him a try”, I end the discussion walking out of the room.
Maybe she was right about him, I wasn’t going back on my words, I was going to date this hot guy whether anyone liked it or not.
KENDRA’S POV
“I wish she’d listen to me”, I muttered to myself as I went out of the room too. She was making breakfast downstairs and she was on the phone with someone, I didn’t know who but I could hear was Rona saying she’d be there in the next 1 hour.
“Where are you going?”, I question her watching her drop her phone at my entrance into the kitchen. She looked very sad, probably she got a bad news on the phone.
“Since when did you care about me?”, she said grabbing some bourbon with a bottle of tomato ketchup alongside cider vinegar and some other stuffs. It was obvious she wanted to prepare barbecue sauce.
I helped her take out the well-cut chicken from the fridge and place it in a bowl. “Just because I don’t support you dating Mr. handsome doesn’t mean I don’t love you, so where are you going?”, I asked again, this time facing her. “I need to be in the hospital before 11am... my cousin, the one who’s married to Winter family, has just been admitted, she has cancer of the lungs”, she said with watery eyes. “Oh... that’s... I’m... “, searching for the right words to say, so as not to hurt her the more.
I just hugged her and kissed her. I didn’t even know what to do. “I’ll finish up and bring your breakfast to the hospital... Go save a life and stop crying”, I sighed and collected the knife from her.
I watched her go upstairs and I turned to the food I wasn’t even sure how to prepare. I brought out my phone from my pocket and browsed how to prepare grilled chicken and barbecue sauce.
“Here goes nothing”, I slowly put the phone down and started.
RONA’S POV
“Good morning Dr. Quinn”, greeted nurse Sharon as she directed me to where my cousin was.
“I warned you to quit smoking, didn’t I?”, I said hurriedly walking to where my cousin Jojo sat on the bed waiting for me. “I’m...”, she tried to speak as I slapped her.
“Do you know what condition you have put yourself and the rest of the entire family?”, I asked angrily. She had just gotten pregnant 3 weeks ago and now this.
I was furious as I grab her test papers from the nurse’s hand.
I gave her 3 different injections and told her to sleep for an hour before she could take the syrup I placed beside the bed for the nurse to give her.
I went to my lab to check out some tests from my last patients that also had cancer of the lungs.
Still thinking about what Kendra had said to me today. ”Should I really leave Mr. Handsome?... there were other things I wanted to explore but what if... No that can’t be true... Would he try to kill me too like he did to his ex girlfriend?...”, a lot of questions ran through my mind.
“Ahhhh!”, I screamed.
“Dr. Quinn?... is everything alright with you?, I heard you scream”, Dr. Evans asked looking at me with so much compassion. He was always very kind when it came to me. I remembered how he was very strict with the nurses and some other doctors. Of course he was a senior doctor but...
“Doctor?”, he called again bringing me back from my thoughts.
“I’m fine... yes I’m fine”, I managed to say, panting.
He came closer to me and drew me in for a hug.
“She’s happy to help”, he said as he stretched out a card. “Trust me when I say she’s amazing”, he continued.
I gave it back, “I’m fine, really”.
“If you say so”, he nodded with a smile and left.
I sighed and sat down. Maybe I do need a therapist, I thought.
Just when I felt hungry, My best friend, Kendra showed up with a package in her hand. It was obviously the food she had prepared. “Are you sure you made these yourself?”, I winked at her, surprised at the fact that she did a good job on this.
“Don’t underestimate a chef”, She hissed with a frown. Turning to the papers on my table,”How is your cousin by the way?”.
“She’ll be here for about 3 weeks, luckily the cancer is at stage 1, we will help her”, I said stuffing as much grilled chicken as I could into my mouth,”you did real good bae”, I complimented with a smile.
She waited until I was done eating then she hugged me very tight and kissed me. I really appreciate her kindness. “Don’t overwork yourself baby”, she said walking out of the door. “How can I ever repay her?”, I thought to myself.
