The Selection II: The Stranger Returns.

Nala’s POV. My father is the leader of the Bitter Defiant! How is that even possible? As I walk down the street beside my father, I keep asking myself over and over again how that is even possible. He doesn’t have any friends, no late-night meetings and although he is just as brave as my mom, he isn’t the type to stand up against the upper class openly. The large hall in the middle of the street comes into view and I nervously straighten the hem of the blue dress Genevieve had stuffed me into at my father’s request. It belonged to my mom. “These bastards took your mother away from us Nala, so you have to help me here. Help me make them pay. Go in there and find a way to help me bring them down.” “You know they would never pick me as Luna right?” “I know that.” “So why do I have to go then?” “You’ll see when it’s time.” He responds just as we walk into the hall. A large crowd is gathered in the hall and more people are still arriving. Every single female Omega in Walls Street is present and dressed in the best they can afford. I nervously take my place among them while my father and Genevieve take their place among the spectators. Among all the girls present, the one that is the centre of attraction is Stephanie Greythorne, the daughter of Elder George and my arch nemesis. Her outfit is a perfect combination of colours and the designs are so mesmerizing that I silently compliment her designer. “She is definitely going to be chosen, there’s no doubt about that.” The girl beside me murmurs as she stares at Stephanie’s gown with a jealous expression on her face. I shake my head to clear my thoughts. I don’t want to be chosen. I don’t want to become the bride of a stupid, entitled prince, I just want to go to fashion school and make a name for myself. “Please Moon goddess, please…” I plead silently. The senior maid that has been sent from the Alpha’s mansion and the woman that would determine who would make it to the mansion, makes her way slowly towards us. She begins pointing at some girls and the moment she does, the guards throw them out. Is that really necessary? Can’t they just walk out on their own? I roll my eyes at the events unfolding in front of me. When she points at me, I am going to punch any bastard who tries to throw me out in the face. She points at almost everyone except for me. My heart keeps beating wildly and I am desperately waiting for her to point at me but she doesn’t. We are now down to five and just as expected, Stephanie is among us. But why am I still here? Why? The maid comes to an abrupt halt in front of me. “This is it, she is finally going to point at me. I don’t even belong here, she can finally see that.” I yell inside my head. “Congratulations ladies, you’re coming with me to the mansion.” She says with a broad smile and a loud cheer erupts from within the crowd of spectators. “What? No! This is a mistake, I am not fit to be…” I cry out but no one can hear me. The noise from the crowd is so loud and the maid is already walking away. “Gather whatever you would need. If you have a personal maid you want to bring along with you, you’re free to. Other than that, you have ten minutes before the limo arrives.” A guard says. “Please…no one can afford a maid here other than me,” Stephanie whispers with a very high and mighty tone. “What limo? Are we leaving right now?” I glance around in search of my father and Genevieve. Everyone disperses and I don’t have to search for long because they soon show up in front of me. “Your sister would go with you as your maid.” My father says and I frown. “There’s no way I am taking Genevieve in there. C’mon Genevieve, tell him you don’t want to.” I turn to her but she just shrugs and doesn’t say anything. Did he tell her about his group already? Has she been aware of it all along? “Who’s gonna make you hot cocoa if we both leave?” “I can take care of myself Nala, make this work.” He remarks. I don’t get a chance to respond when a guard walks over to us and leads Genevieve and I to the limo parked outside. This would be the very first time I would see a car as luxurious as this. The crowd that has gathered to watch us leave is so much that we have to force our way through. I bump into someone and before I can apologize, the person whispers, “We’re all depending on you.” I glance up but I can’t make out who said it. The person has disappeared into the crowd. We get into the limo and we have to make room for Stephanie and the three maids she brought along with her. Like why does she need three maids? What for? As we drive past the high walls that separate us from the upper class, I take a deep breath and hold on tightly to Genevieve’s hand. We arrive at the mansion and the house is so much more breathtaking than Lucian’s house. We are sent to our accommodation, which is more like an apartment with five different large bedrooms and a living room, alongside a state-of-the-art kitchen that we would probably never use. We clean up and organize ourselves to finally meet our mistress. Another senior maid would be in charge of us. I specifically ripped my purple dress, the one we were all instructed to wear for the evening. Anything to get them to send me home. But once again, she doesn’t send me home, instead, she sends one of us home and we are down to three. The situation is so frustrating and annoying that I don’t think of anything else other than how to get out of here, so I run and I just keep running. I run so fast that I no longer have any idea where I am heading or which direction I am coming from. I find myself out in the open and in what looks like a garden. This could be my opening? This could be a chance to escape and get rid of this f****d up situation going on. Fashion school, here I come. I dash towards the opening and turn in the other direction, I expect to see some sort of fence I can jump over but I bump into something else. Something hard, something that feels like a…a person. I glance up and get sucked into the most beautiful pair of blue eyes I have ever seen. I gasp. His face is so familiar. I squint my eyes at him. “It’s you.” My eyes widens in surprise, “You were the one in the water.” I whisper but loud enough for him to hear. He looks down at my outfit and frowns. “You’re not supposed to be here.” Before I could respond, someone speaks up from behind him and I freeze because that voice sounds very familiar. “What the f**k are you doing here.” Tyler, Lucian’s brother says as he steps out from behind the stranger with the attractive blue eyes.
