The Ceremony.
Prologue.
Killian’s POV.
“You ready for the big day man?” Tyler says as he taps my shoulder gently. We were on our way to the grand hall and fully clothed in the ceremonial attire.
I ignore him and just keep walking.
“What? Are you not excited? Most people would literally give anything to be in your shoes right now.” Tyler says as we come to a halt in front of the large doors.
“I should be excited about what exactly? About the fact that the person I get to spend the rest of my life with would be decided by a piece of paper.”
“When you say it like that, it sounds really horrible. This is our age-long tradition man. It’s up to us to keep it going.”
“I am supposed to just let them…you know what, never mind.” I wave him off just as the large door opens and we walk into the grand hall.
It has been decorated specifically for today and a lot of reporters were present to witness the occasion and inform the whole pack of the street that would be chosen today.
My father, Alpha Tristan is the Alpha and ruler of the kingdom of Cavaria, home to the Blood-Moon pack. According to tradition, as soon as the next Alpha in line and heir to the throne is twenty-five, a ceremony would be held and the present Alpha would have to pick a street.
It’s like a selection process made easy. All the names in the pack would be written down on a piece of paper and put into a box. The papers would be shuffled together and anyone my father picks would be the street the next Luna and my future wife would be chosen from.
My mother, Luna Ashina was chosen for my father through this same f****d up method.
Every eligible girl living in that street would go through a screening process and the ones that make it past that would be sent to the mansion. On their arrival, they would go through some sort of training, and the final two would be brought before me for the final decision.
As I step up on stage along with my beta and best friend, Tyler, the reporters clamour around but they are not allowed to take pictures of me. My face has been hidden from the public since birth. After what happened to my twin sister, my parents have been very overprotective of me.
My father walks over to the box and with a simple gesture, my fate is sealed. He reaches into the box and pulls out a paper.
Just one and my breath gets caught in my throat. My heartbeat increases and I can feel the pain in my chest. All these years, I have always dreamed of living my life, travelling to other territories and visiting other packs, falling in love and gathering experiences.
Now, all these dreams are going to remain unfulfilled. My fate has been decided. I would end up with a total stranger and live with her fake smile for the rest of my life.
My father handed over the piece of paper to one of the elders of his council who were also present. With my eyes closed and a racing heart, I wait patiently to hear him call out the name of the street.
“Walls Street!” Elder George announces loudly and a loud sound fills the hall.
Everyone is clapping and cheering so hard yet all I can feel is…
“Congratulations son, I hear the women there are beautiful.” Father slaps a hand across my shoulder and I just nod. I force a tight smile on my face and pretend to be as happy as everyone else.
Walls Street. It’s just one of those random streets in the pack filled with Omegas and the only upper class that lives there and controls them for the Alpha is the same Elder George standing beside my father.
“Hey,” Tyler leans closer to me, “I heard Elder George’s daughter is quite a beauty. Who knows, she just might be your Luna.” He winks at me and I look away.
This is not the life I want. The fake smiles and pretending to love a stranger are something I can never do.
How did my parents survive this?
