Vera's POV
That stare.
It came off like he was going to shift, his eyes search for certitude as they landed on our held hands.
Closing his eyes. He steps back, startling me.
I expected him to attack Kane, to force his claim on me again.
But instead, he turns his back to leave.
What?
He stops, his shoulders turn stiff, and his following words make something stir in me.
"I am sorry for the intrusion. Excuse me."
And with this, he is gone banging the door shut, and my grip on Kane's hand loosens.
What was that?
My eyes stay fixated at the closed door.
Did he go just like that? Strange? Is it possible that he has changed over the years?
