Chapter 5

John's Loud music. My ears were bleeding. I came here to forget. I had to forget. I had switched off my phone so that no one could get to me. Reality sucked. My eyes were centered on the dance floor, everybody was in their own little bubble. Nothing mattered to them as they swayed their hips and body to the rhythm of the music. I looked at a guy in the corner, close to the door. He was sprawled on his seat, he was about to go off. Drunk as hell, that was what I would call his situation. Hangovers, he would probably get some tomorrow. His head will ache so much that he would wish he didn't drink at all, but still I envied him. Because he had escaped reality for one night. I'm sure whatever reason he came here for, he had fulfilled it. Probably to forget. "Two shots of vodka, one for me and the other for the gentleman beside me" A voice said beside me and I turned to look at it's owner. She giggled when I set my eyes on her. Her braids cascaded around her back. I could have sworn I had seen her somewhere but with how lightheaded I was, I couldn't be so sure. Her light skin complexion blended with the dim lights of the club. She was flirting with me. "Hey beautiful" I coaxed in a deep voice that I knew should do the trick. She smiled again then coughed, and laughed. "You want to dance?" She Hiccupped and I took a second to decide before I stood up and led her to the dance floor. She was grinding against me, the girl sure knew how to move. Where have I met you before beautiful? I raked my brain, searched its depths but with the way she was moving against me and the light effect of the alcohol I knew there wasn't going to be any thinking for me tonight, at all. "Wanna go outside? I need some fresh air" Her voice was sexy Demanding. Wanting. I couldnt say no. I placed my hands on the small of her waist and led her out making sure to grab her things. Her legs wobbled a little, then just outside she threw up. Damn! Just when I thought we were about to get down and dirty, she f*****g threw up. I watched with sheer disgust as she swiped her mouth with the back of her hand. I didn't know when but I dug my hands into my pocket and handed her my white handkerchief. I regretted it before I even did it. But I did it anyway. "Amara" A familiar voice rang in my ears. Amara? "Ooh. I'm Amara, and she's wren." "I have a mouth you know? What should I get you, rice, swallow?" She had replied that day at the cafe. I almost laughed at the memory. I remembered. Amara turned to look at her bestfriend. "Wren, he was with her, I caught him in bed with her. I stood there for almost a minute and he didn't notice me. He always senses my presence when I'm around but today he didn't. When he said he loved her, I couldnt take it anymore. I threw the vase at them and ran away." I felt like I was intruding as I stood there listeining on their little conversation, but I couldn't help it. "A vase?, did you want to get them killed" I almost heard the laughter in Wren's voice. She was crouched beside her Amara who was still bent in case she needed to throw up again. "I wish I did" Amara giggled again, then hiccupped. I figured she hiccupped a lot of times when she drank too much. Wren rubbed her back, probably to ease some tension. "Want to head home and stay up all night, watch some cliché movie or maybe horror, we could even hang a picture of Segun in the room and throw arrows, eggs, tomatoes. Whatever fits your taste" Harsh. but interesting. "My legs hurt, and I just want to look into space, I just just want to look at nothing in particular. Sit with me please" It was a statement not a question. Just like Amara asked, Wren obliged and soon they were sitting down on the floor of the parking lot. I shifted back and rested my body on the pillar giving them their girls space or whatever it is they called it. I couldn't listen in on their conversation, but I was still observing them. Closely. Amara said something then Wren shoulders looked tensed. After a while she threw her head back and laughed. Amara joined her too. Girls are weird. They both turned to look at me for a split second. Damn! What were they saying? They didn't stay as long as I expected them to because the next thing I knew Wren was walking towards me. I immediately knew I liked the way she walked. "Thanks" She stopped, then thought for a while before I heard that ding in her head. "Jhay right? Thanks for helping my friend although I know you wouldn't have done much helping if I didnt show up." She smiled as if remembering something, then turned serious again. "She's a wreck when she's drunk so I really apologize." I nodded. "You need help driving home or taking her to your car, I'm sure she still can't walk well" How the hell do I just say Hey, your number please That's what I wanted to say, but something else came out. She was wearing a dinner gown that stopped above her knee. Grey, that was the colour. Her feet were bare, she had probably dropped her shoe in the car or somewhere. The two cornrows on her head divided it and brought out the beauty of her oval face. Mesmerizing, that was how beautiful she was. We walked to Amara and I helped her get to the car. "Hey handsome" Amara had mentioned once and giggled again. She was really a wreck. We helped her get in after much struggles. "Thanks again" Wren had declared after she had caught her breath. "f**k! Who's going to help me pick her car later on?" She had placed her palm on her forehead and was about to start doing that thing, pacing around. I could do that. "I can do that" She looked up, I waited. "Seriously, I'd really appreciate. Let me get your number. I don't usually trust strangers but I'm sure I can pass." She ranted and I couldn't help but notice that she was as nervous as I was. The side of my lips twitched in a crooked smile. Thanks for the slight darkness. When we had both exchanged digits she had jogged to her side of the car and got in. She smiled again before she pulled out of the parking lot. Progress!!
