CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE The tension was pretty much palpable in the conference room, everyone inside on their toes. There were hushed whispers going around among the board members, Mr. Carrington pacing to and fro while Victoria was openly tensed too. Since the Duke left, he’d neither called nor attempted to contact her in anyway and she’d been too proud to reach out first. Yet, the fear that he might have backed out of their agreement, haunted her thoughts. She wanted to crush her father so bad that he’d let go of her instead of forcing her to take part in a business that she had zero interest in. “Why do you keep checking your phone like that? Waiting for a certain…duke to call, huh?” she was drawn out of her thought by Darren’s whisper near her. “Huh?” she remarked absentmindedly.
