Chapter two- Home

1291 Words
Hell's Door was not at all how I imagined it to be. It was small yes, but there was everything one needed. Wal-Mart, clothing stores, a few restaurants, thank the heavens, a coffee shop, some grocery store called piggly-wiggly because everyone wanted to shop where a pig was it's logo. Then there was a small three story high school and the college right beside it that looked like it took up half the town. It wasn't by no means as big as other colleges, but there were what looked like three buildings all connected by sidewalks and other buildings that looked like dorm rooms.  This was not my ideal place to live, but it would do while I was finishing my Senior year. Dad called and told me he went ahead and registered me for school, which surprised me. Dad never did things like that. He was always too busy with Hell to do small trivial things like that. It made me happy and nonetheless it made me smile.  The house at the address dad sent surprised me. Considering how dad liked to throw money around, the small two story house was a welcomed change. There were only three bedrooms, but the kitchen was stocked and what would be my room had a bathroom attached as well as a walk-in closet that dad had somehow already stocked with clothes for me. I found out long ago to never ask dad how he did things, he would just laugh and never answer.  Walking through the house to the kitchen I decided to have an early dinner so I could spend a few hours exploring the town. Not that there was much to explore but I could at the very least get a long overdue coffee. With that thought in mind I made a quick personal pizza, scarfed it down and headed straight for heaven in a cup.  Unfortunately they didn't have many options, but they did at least have the skinny vanilla latte I loved to order back home. It wasn't the same as my old coffee shop, but it was good and it curved my craving. Sitting in one of the chairs outside I sighed. People were walking around smiling, couples were hand in hand, parents let their children run around without worrying about them being abducted. I couldn't help but smile. The people here were so carefree. It was like they lived in their own bubble of safety and content.  Oh. how utterly naive and oblivious they were. If only they knew what the world outside their little bubble was really like. Children were abducted, couples fought, people were killed and theft was an everyday occurrence. huh, maybe I could get used to this oblivious little town.  I had felt someone stand beside me before I saw them. I always had heightened senses, even more so than the average werewolf. The person beside me smelled of a campfire and pine. The smell was intoxicating, and for some reason relaxed me. That only served to piss me off though. Before turning to the intruder I plastered on a smile. "Can I help you?" I asked, looking at a very good looking man. He was tall, at least 6 foot 8 inches. He had broad shoulders and sun kissed skin. His muscles bulged and rippled under his black shirt. His hair was the color of the night sky and eyes a hauntingly beautiful brown. The man looked at me and smirked as he saw me taking him in.  "Are you new here?" He asked. I just raised a brow at him. This was a small town, obviously he would know I was new without asking.  "Right, small town." He said chuckling "My name is Gabriel." He said, extending his hand to me.  I However was choking on my coffee as I inhaled it in an attempt to laugh as I drank. "Are you serious? Gabriel? Like after the archangel?" I snorted.  Gabriel furrowed his brow and his look turned hard. Shoving his hands in his pocket he turned on his heel and walked away without another word. Maybe I should have been nicer?  "You think." Nicole responded. "Oh shut it wolf." I told her, getting up to head home. Tomorrow would be the first day of school and I was not looking forward to it. Starting a new school in the middle of the first semester was never fun, even less so for me. My blonde hair was almost white and flowed in waves to my waist, I had a pale flawless complexion, and an athletic build. But what stood out most was my sapphire blue eyes. I always drew attention, even when I didn't want it.  "Hello Ariel." I turned stunned as my father walked up next to me.  "Dad? What are you doing here?"  "I figured I would see you off to your first day of school tomorrow." He said it like it was no big deal.  My father stood almost seven foot high, he had blonde hair to the middle of his back, with a little scruff along his jaw, his eyes were the same unusual blue as mine.  "Seriously?" I asked incredulously. He just laughed as he pulled me into a side hug.  "Of course. You are finally here. In this town we can spend more time together. I can do some of the small things I never got to do with you while you were growing up. I may be Lucifer, but I love you Ariel." He said now suddenly serious "I've always watched over you and protected you. Now I can be here for you in person."  As dad was talking I felt the part of my back between my shoulder blades begin to throb. I rolled my shoulders a few times but it didn't help. The pain just kept increasing. "Dad, I need to spread my wings. I need to fly, my back is hurting." I whined.  He stopped suddenly and looked at me, his brows furrowed in concern. "How long has it been?" He asked. I looked down and started twiddling my fingers, I knew he wasn't going to be happy.  "Uh, over a year." I said in a small voice.  His body grew tense as he stopped walking and looked at me. "Damn it Ariel, you know better. If you wait too long they will come out on their own and you risk exposure. How could you be so irresponsible?" He seethed. "I'm sorry. Between training and helping take care of the pack I didn't have time. Training has been a top priority for me. I needed to know how to fight if I ever got caught." "You're right, I'm sorry. Let's get back to the house and we can go for a flight." Dad said before he started walking again. The house wasn't far, so it took no time at all for us to get there. Dad led me through the house and to the backyard. I hadn't looked out back yet so walking out into an expanse of forest and a garden surprised me. "As long as we keep over the trees we should be fine." My father said as he took his suit jacket and vest off. He then spread his massive black wings. They spanned 10ft on each side. I followed close behind shedding my sweater and spreading my wings that matched my father's in color but only spanned 8ft on each side. "Ready daughter?" He asked with a smile. I nodded more than ready to fly with my father. We haven't flown together since he brought me to the surface at 10. Without another word, we both leapt into the air soaring over what I now called home.
