"Your anger only proves my success. Thank you for crowning me tonight, Lily. " After being betrayed by her closest friend, Emma finally says these words with a calm heart.

It all began that fateful midnight, during a chaotic rainstorm, when a mysterious phone call promised her a life-changing prize.

From that moment, Emma was thrust into a world of temptation, power, deception, and the harsh reality of a true aristocratic family.

***

Chapter 1: A Life-Changing Prize
Afternoon sunlight filtered through Central Park, casting a warm glow on everything it touched. Emma trudged along the winding path, her heart heavy and her mind buzzing with worries. Life was hitting hard lately. The weight of rent and bills loomed, pressing down on her every step. Her recent interview? Another dead end. No job, no stability. With her mood sinking to rock bottom, she wandered in search of a quiet spot to soak up some free sunlight and, hopefully, catch a break. That’s when she saw it. Up ahead, on a park bench, sat a man who looked like he’d been sculpted and then dropped straight out of an art gallery. He had this David-from-another-world vibe—strong features, cut like marble. Tousled chestnut curls framed a face that could sell anything, anywhere. He sat there, relaxed, with long legs stretched out in the sun and his hands draped along the back of the bench, radiating that effortless grace usually reserved for CEOs and red-carpet regulars. But here’s the kicker: stretched out on his lap was an orange tabby—a fat, fluffy cat that was clearly living its best life, sunning itself and swatting its tail against his leg. Emma couldn’t help but smile, trying not to laugh. The scene looked like a picture straight out of a rom-com—the high-class guy in an expensive suit, with a cozy, sun-loving cat sprawled across his lap. Right then, the man’s eyelashes fluttered, and he opened his eyes, glancing down in confusion. The cat gave a long, lazy “meowww,” almost like a greeting. And the guy? He froze. Completely. He looked like he’d just discovered an alien on his lap. His whole face shifted from composed to shocked. His first instinct was to stand up, but the cat—blissfully oblivious—just rolled onto its back, paws in the air, and stretched even further. He was stuck. One hand twitched as if he was trying to figure out what to do without freaking out, making a funny attempt to keep calm despite his obvious discomfort. The contrast was both adorable and hilarious. Emma burst out laughing, unable to hold it in anymore. She stepped closer, grinning, “Need some help? Looks like you’re a total cat magnet.” The man and the cat both turned their heads toward her in sync, both with these innocent, almost confused expressions. Still holding his stiff posture, he tried to muster a smile, though his voice sounded more like he was gritting his teeth: “Yes, actually… if you don’t mind.” She bit her lip, trying to stifle another laugh, and gently scooped up the chubby tabby. The little guy settled right into her arms, purring contentedly, clearly just as happy in this new, cozy spot. Emma sat down on the grass nearby, cradling the cat, stroking its fur, while it let out a soft purr and closed its eyes, obviously living its best life. The guy finally exhaled, pulling himself back together as he turned to her, grateful and slightly amused. “So, you must have cats, right? Looks like you’ve got a real knack with them.” She shrugged, still petting the cat. “I wish. My landlord’s anti-pet, and honestly, feeding myself are tough enough as it is.” She looked down at the cat, her gaze softening a bit with a hint of longing. He smiled, seeming to catch her drift. “Well, you definitely look like a pro.” She chuckled, raising an eyebrow. “Picked it up from working at a pet shop. So, what about you? Not much of an animal person, I’m guessing?” Emma’s real question was “Are you scared of cats?” but she thought she’d spare him that much. The guy cleared his throat, his expression almost bashful. “Not exactly… I just haven’t, uh, spent a lot of time around them.” Emma held back a laugh. “Don’t worry, looks like this guy totally approves of your first attempt.” They shared a quick grin, the moment breaking the ice between them. Any tension faded, replaced by an easy-going warmth. Emma noticed a few stray orange hairs clinging to his designer suit and pointed them out, smirking. “It left you a little gift.” He just laughed, unfazed. She pulled out a roll of tape and handed it to him with a smile. “Here, use this. Makes a decent lint roller.” He looked at the little sticker roll, mildly intrigued, and noticed the cute, hand-drawn designs on it. “What is this? Looks cool.” “Just some planner stickers I designed,” she said with a bit of pride in her voice. “Consider it a gift.” He peeled off some tape, dabbing away the cat hair with a smirk. “Cute. Feels kinda wasteful, though, for a suit like this.” She raised an eyebrow, playfully. “Hey, my stickers have never been used on something this fancy. I’d say it’s an honor.” They shared a laugh, chatting away in the sunlight, their conversation flowing naturally. The guy looked polished and sophisticated, but with this down-to-earth vibe that put her at ease. Right when they shared another smile, he looked at her and asked, “Any plans tonight? Maybe we could continue this over drinks?” Emma blinked, caught a bit off guard, but quickly recovered with a smirk. “Just a heads-up, I do have a boyfriend… you meant it that way, right?” The guy lifted his hands in mock surrender, flashing a charmingly disappointed grin. “That really is a shame.” Being invited out by a guy like him made her feel a tiny flutter, but she just laughed, standing up with the cat still in her arms. “Thanks for the invite, but I should get going. And good luck with your future cat encounters,” she said, flashing him a teasing smile. As he watched her walk away, his eyes held a trace of regret. With a quiet chuckle, he murmured, “Interesting girl… what a pity.” *** Later that evening, the skies darkened, and rain started to fall, dotting the streets with small, wet patches. Emma grabbed a quick sandwich, hurrying through the streets as the rain picked up, turning into a steady downpour. No fancy dinner tonight—just this sandwich as her only real meal for the day. Suddenly, the rain got heavier. With the sandwich clamped between her teeth, she fumbled to pull an umbrella out of her bag and popped it open just in time. As she wrestled with her umbrella, her phone rang, startling her. With one hand holding the umbrella, she clumsily picked up her phone and glanced at the screen—an unknown number. “Hello?” she answered, juggling the umbrella as rain dripped onto her shoulders. A calm, polished voice greeted her, “Good evening, Ms. Emma Carter! This is Anna Lee, Project Manager with The Grand Vista Hotels. Congratulations—you’ve won our grand prize: the ‘Dream Life’ experience.” Emma stopped in her tracks, completely thrown. She recognized The Grand Vista name from her job hunt—a luxury hotel chain known worldwide. “A prize? Me?” she asked, baffled. “Yes, Ms. Carter. ‘Dream Life’ is a unique, all-inclusive experience, designed to offer you the ultimate in luxury living. We’re talking five years of lavish accommodations, personal staff, exclusive social access, and full financial independence. Your life is about to change completely.” Emma’s eyes narrowed, skeptical. “This… sounds way too good to be true. Are you messing with me?” The woman’s voice was steady, unfazed, as she calmly verified Emma’s personal details, right down to the recent interviews she’d had. Emma stood there, stunned, a mix of shock and something almost like excitement stirring inside her. “Do you remember filling out a raffle ticket on May 19th, during dinner at our restaurant? It was part of a large-scale event across all our brands, and you were selected as our one and only grand prize winner!” Emma thought back to that dinner, remembering the playful moment when her boyfriend Ethan had handed her the ticket, joking, “Who knows, maybe you’re the chosen one?” At the time, she’d laughed it off, casually filling out the ticket without a second thought. And now? Had she actually won? “So… you’re serious? I really won?” “Absolutely, Ms. Carter. You’ll receive everything you need to seamlessly step into a life of luxury,” Anna said confidently. “To ensure an uninterrupted experience, you’ll need to sign an NDA and keep the details confidential.” Rain trickled down her umbrella as Emma stood there, speechless. Life had been throwing her one curveball after another, and now—this? It felt unreal. “This is all a lot…,” she murmured. Anna’s voice held a note of pride. “The Grand Vista doesn’t do anything halfway. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to change everything.” “Tomorrow at 9 a.m., we’ll have a car pick you up from your registered address to take you to our headquarters at Titan Tower for the contract signing. Our senior team will be there, along with our legal representatives.” Titan Tower—the tallest building in New York and the known headquarters of The Grand Vista. The invitation was feeling more legitimate by the second. Emma hesitated, her mind a whirlwind. “Can I… think about it a little?” “Of course. We’ll follow up in 24 hours. But until you sign, please remember to keep things under wraps,” Anna said, her tone firm yet courteous. As the call ended, Emma stood in the rain, her mind blank, shoes soaked. A part of her wanted to scream in disbelief. A hidden chance for a new life—a secret to keep close. Walking absentmindedly through the rainy streets, she thought of Ethan. Maybe she could ask his advice? Not the whole story, of course, but at least… a little hint? As she walked, she glanced up—and froze. There, in a warmly lit restaurant, her boyfriend and her best friend Lily sat together, laughing, feeding each other in a way that only two people way too comfortable with each other would. Emma stopped, her umbrella slipping from her hands, rain pouring over her like a final blow.
