Suffering Mate
Marcus
I was walking back to my room, exhausted from today's training when I heard the whisper of a scream come from the door I was passing. I wasn’t sure if I’d heard it, but as future alpha it was my job to make sure that the pack members were safe, I turned to face the door and after a moment's hesitation I opened it using the building's master key. I walked in only to see a girl curled up on the bed, she was struggling to breathe. Panicked, I closed the door behind me and ran to her side. I could only watch not knowing how to help, suddenly she went from struggling to taking in hurried breaths. The girl sat up and slid on her slippers preparing to stand, when her body curled in slightly as she let out another agonising scream. I wanted to help her but my body was frozen in place. As if she hadn't just been screaming in pain the girl stood up and rushed over to her dresser, grabbing a small wooden box. Opening the box she pulled out a small vial, flicking off the lid she tipped whatever it was into her mouth. Instantly she relaxed. Closing the box and setting it back in its place she threw the vial into the bin. Slowly she turned to face me staring at the floor. When she looked up and her eyes met mine my wolf called out the word I was waiting to hear.
‘Mate’
She was beautiful, with long brunette hair that reached her butt, emerald green eyes and pale white skin. I jumped up from the bed and took a step towards the girl, my mate. As I did, the girl took a small step back, making my wolf whimper and my heart hurt. Her eyes dropped back to the floor, and she began to fidget under my watch.
“I-I have to go,” She said quickly before rushing out the door. After the moment of shock wore off I ran after her.

Today had started out perfect, it was sunday, I’d been down in the gardens helping plant the new flowers and had lunch at a cute cafe with Brie. It had all gone south about ten seconds ago when my breath hitched in my throat. I tried to take a breath, but I was only able to get very minimal air into my lungs, it was the same when I tried to breathe out. Finally I was able to pull in a full breath, and immediately I began panting, anticipating the pain that was sure to come. I curled into a ball on my bed as a wave of excruciating pain hit me, I let out a blood curdling scream, and just as quickly as it had come the pain left. Just as my breath hitched again the door to my room flew open, revealing a very panicked looking man, seeing me on the bed he quickly closed the door behind him and rushed over. He watched me not knowing what to do, while I lay there curled in a ball struggling for air. The moment I could breathe normally again I sat up, slid on my slippers and tried to get up, before I could stand another wave of pain hit me and I screamed again. The second the pain left I stood up and rushed over to the dresser. I grabbed the small wooden box and quickly lifted its lid, revealing twenty or so vials placed neatly inside. I grabbed one flicking off its cap and without hesitation drank its contents, instantly I felt better. Throwing the now empty vial in the bin I closed the wooden box and placed it back on the dresser, before turning back to the stranger who had run into my room. I stared at the floor, not meeting his eyes. I didn’t want to see the concern, confusion or pity that people always had on their faces when they bore-witness to one of my episodes. When I eventually looked up and met his gaze my wolf said the single word I was wondering if I’d ever hear.
‘Mate’
The man jumped up off the bed and took a step towards me. Instinctively I took a small step back. I saw the hurt flash across his face, before I dropped my gaze back to the floor as I began to fidget.
“I-I have to go,” I hurriedly said, before racing out the door. I needed to get to Jamie, she’d know what to do. After a second or two I heard footsteps behind me as the man began to follow. I ran out the back door of the pack house and towards where Jamie and the others lived. Thankfully it wasn’t too far away, though it wasn’t with all the other houses, instead it was secluded within a clearing in the forest. I stumbled through the front door the effects of my ‘pain killers’ wearing off. Forgetting to close the front door I made my way into the lounge room where they were all gathered before collapsing. Alex, the faster of the five, caught me before I hit the floor. Jamie and the others quickly gathered around me.
“I found my mate,” I managed to force out before my breath caught again. Jamie swore under her breath, pulling me from Alex’s lap and onto hers.
“What?” the other four asked in almost perfect unison.
“If she’s found her mate we will no longer be able to help her through the pain of an episode,” She said quietly, a worried expression on her face. Agony shot through me and I screamed, curling into Jamie. Footsteps thundered down the hall as the most intoxicating smell filled the air, unknowingly I smiled realising who it was. The others didn’t though, and the three boys got ready for a fight, standing in front of me.
