CHAPTER 001
Maya. “I love you.” Chaold breathes against my face, my ear, and my whole body shivers in delight. “I’ve wanted you from the moment I saw you. I dreamed of you. Touched myself to the thought of you.” His lips hover over mine. “Maya, I can’t wait any longer.” “Then don’t.” I whisper, “Take me, Chaold.” That’s all it takes. A few second of his gaze searching mine before his lips crashes against mine. Wild and hungry. Like he wanted to own me. Like he wanted to possess me. I arch my back for him, allowing him ravage me however he likes. And then his lips drop to my neck. He peppers my skin with soft, loving kisses, making my toes curl and my core ache with pulsing need. I breathe heavily with longing, wanting him to touch me more and then— Tara walks in and slaps my head with a fan. “Fantasizing about Chaold again?” she walks off to place some of the new clothes she’d brought in in the closet. I press my fingertips to the spot where her fan struck me, glaring at her “We were just getting to the interesting part, and you just had to interfere!” “Interesting part?” she looks at me. Smirks, and scoffs before rolling her eyes. “You better forget him.” “Why would I?” “Obviously because he is way out of your league.” “How is Chaold out of my league? If we are talking about background, actually he fits perfectly.” I clasp my hand together, thinking about my childhood crush. Chaold is dashing and handsome. Above all, he is caring and kind to me. Not just that, but he is also hot as hell. I can’t help but day dream about him. “I know he is smart, strong and will become the future beta of this pack. You—you are the Luna’s daughter, but—“ “But what?” “Forget it.” I don’t know why Tara doesn’t like the idea of me and Chaold together, but it doesn’t matter. No one is going to get in between us. “Tara, I have a feeling Chaold is going to confess to me soon. Now, I just need to work on convincing mother to approve our wedding proposal, and then, I’ll have Chaold to myself. All the women in Ravindor will be so jealous of me.” The thought of that filled me with sweet laughter. “Don’t you think it is too late for that?” I jump when I hear Tara’s voice right in my ear. I was busy day dreaming and didn’t notice her come close to me. “What do you mean too late? I have a way to convince mother this time.” “It won’t work this time, too.” “Why not?” I ask, “I mean, I’d be getting a better deal than my cousin at least. I cannot imagine her marrying that man.” Although, my cousin Jenny and I have always been at odds and at each other’s throat, I still didn’t feel good when I heard who she has been arranged to marry. It is not a good Alpha, or a good beta, or even a good gamma, or a lowly Omega. It is someone way worse than all of these. The lord of Gorlan. I often hear stories about his brutal and ruthless nature. They call him an outsider because he was born different. He isn’t like us. He is a taboo. A cruel force that makes people hush in his presence. I can’t imagine Jenny ever being sent to that hell‑hole. I hear about how people are tortured there and about how many wives he’d taken and killed because they didn’t meet his expectations. It makes me wonder if Jenny will be killed too. Anyway, I need to conclude my betrothal to Chaold quickly so I do not end up like her. I look up and notice Tara quietly looking at me. It was a sad look. It makes me worry for a moment. My eyes narrow at her, and I move closer and ask, “What is it?” “Nothing.” She shakes her head. “I came to tell you that the Luna has summoned you to her chambers.” “Why would mother summon me by this time? I’m getting ready for bed.” “Maybe it’s to help her catch cockroaches and rats.” Tara says it in her usual sarcastic tone. I roll my eyes at her as she adds. “You’d better go. It’s regarding your future.” “My future?” I ask, worried, but Tara avoids my eyes and pretends to be folding my clothes. “You’ll find out when you meet her.” “No.” I say, standing up and pinning her with a fierce look that works almost every time. “Since you know why mother is summoning me at this ungodly hour, then you should tell me so I can prepare in advance.” “I-I can’t tell you.” She stammers which is strange because Tara rarely stammers. “Oh, yes you can. Or else I’ll tell everyone that you like Brannon—“ She was pinning my mouth shut before I could even finish, looking around, afraid someone might’ve heard. “What is going on, Tara?” I could tell it was serious if even Tara is tight lipped about it. She talks a lot and could never keep something to herself for long. It was both a good and bad trait. “I’m afraid Luna will kill me if I tell you first.” “I’ll protect you. Tell me!” She swallows hard, looks around and sense for any listening ear outside, then moves closer to me and whisper, “Your marriage has been arranged by your mother. I only heard today. The wedding ceremony will begin in a week and the groom is already on his way to our city.” I release a sigh, ignored Tara’s cries as I held one of her ears and pulled slightly, asking her. “Who said you could lie to me like that? Words carry power, Tara. What if they ruin everything for me and Chaold?” “I’m not lying, my lady. The news has been circulating around since dinner time.” I release her, my brows furrowing again. Tara does not look like she is joking. And that is because I knew when she is pulling my legs and when she is being damn serious. And right now— My heart begin to beat wildly in my chest. Fear and anxiousness begin slipping in, slowly. “Who is it?” “What?” “Who has she arranged for me to marry?” I snap, feeling like I am almost losing my mind. “Who?” “It’s—it’s an Alpha,” Her voice shakes terribly as she says. “Alpha Landon. The lord of Gorlan.” “What?” Confusion fills my gaze. “You mean, the beast in the West. The savage who rules the Eastern territory? T-that… That Alpha?” Tara nods slowly and hurries to catch me, as my legs could no longer hold me up. What—what is my mother thinking? “Isn’t… Isn’t Jenny supposed to marry him?” I force air into my lungs as Tara helps me sit. “I also don’t know what happened. You know how Luna gets. Her moves are always reckless but for a purpose.” “No.” I began shaking my head. “I’m not going to marry him. That is Jenny’s fate to carry. I’m going to marry Chaold. I’ll do anything to marry him.” “You can’t.” there was pain in her eyes now when she looks at me and drops the bombshell. “The Luna has approved Jenny and Chaold’s marriage a few hours ago.” I didn’t know if I heard right, but it sounds like an explosion just happened right in front of me. My whole world went utterly still, then came the raging fire bursting out of me.
