Can it Get Worse?

Leaving the main building then turning right we walk along a small path and into another building just following the crowd of students and hoping we would end up in the right place.   Finally, we find the right class after searching for 20 minutes and arguing over what way to go entering the class my eyes wander over the space.   Thick oak slabs rest on sturdy metal legs that they use for desks big enough for two people to sit at. Running down in three rows where a beautiful Espresso-skinned lady with tight dark curls resting on her shoulders, is already standing in front of the class.   She has on a beautiful powder blue tight spaghetti strap dress that hugs her curves with thick gold bangles running up both her arms. Grace and I sit at the last empty desk at the back of the room.   I notice b***h face, is in this class sitting right at the front, I narrow my eyes at her as if daring her to say something, but instead she just turns around and faces the front.   “Settle down students my name is professor Ivory Garcia, and I will be your spellcasting professor,” she says with a smile. “As you can see, I have placed two small stones on each desk, by the end of class I want you all to have made them levitate in the air even if only for a few seconds.” She continues.    “Place your hand over your stone and clearly say levatio.” My hand shoots up “yes” the professor says sweetly. Playing with the hem on my skirt I ask, “Can I please speak with you in private?”   She raises her eyebrow but nods “my office is just through this door please come in” she gestures to the door with her hand in a sweeping motion. I jump off the stool and walk towards the front of the class, where she opens the door leading to her office stepping through, she takes the seat behind the dark wooden desk.    “What can I do for you sweet?”   I take in a deep breath and rush out the words, “I’ve never used spell’s before, I have always just pictured what I want to happen, and it did.” I say nervously.    “Excuse me?” she asks with a look of confusion on her face. I look down at her desk and notice a closed book on top of some papers. I raise my hand in its direction and picture it is lifting two feet in the air then moving from left to right before placing it softly back down on the desk. Her mouth opens and her eyes widen “that’s impossible” she says jumping to her feet.    “What’s your name sweet?”    “Ava Perez,” I say while looking down at my feet, this is not how I wanted my first day to go, I didn’t want to be the wired girl. I want to be a normal eighteen-year-old light mage. But it seems like I’m asking for too much.   “Ah so you’re the princess I heard was joining the Academy, well I’m so sorry to have to do this sweet but I need you to head over to head mistress Tompkins office I will let her know to expect you.” She says then flattening her lips in a straight line.    “What! Why? what have I done?” I raise my arms and let them drop back down by my side. Sighing she replies, “well you don’t need spells like you have just proven, so this class is no good to you she will place you in a new class.”   Giving me a reassuring smile, I huff out a breath as I leave her office to walk towards the desk that Grace is sitting at picking up my backpack, I turn to her “I’m out of this class babe, don’t need spells remember.”    I say quietly while throwing on my backpack, “oh s**t yes, I totally forgot well that sucks I wanted to be with you.”   She whispers back sounding annoyed, squeezing her shoulder I turn to leave the classroom.   Exiting the building annoyed as hell, clenching then unclenching my hands I am so done with today already. I decide to sit down on a stone bench outside the main building to calm myself down before facing the headmistress.   After a few minutes of taking in deep breaths, I throw my backpack on and prepare myself to face the head. I make my way to the main building once I enter, I notice a sign pointing in the direction of the headmistress office and I follow it down the hallway that has huge stained glass windows. I reach the door that has her name written on the plaque then knock.    “Come in,” says a female voice from the other side. I open the door to find an older woman sitting in a high back dark leather chair behind a large wooden desk her salt and pepper hair tied tightly in a bun her small glasses on the edge of her nose.   She is wearing a black, suit jacket with a white shirt underneath she looks the part, and honestly, I am feeling slightly intimidated, nothing about this woman screams friendly.   “Ah princess Ava Perez, I’ve have been waiting for you,” she says with no emotion, this woman is like a stone. I can’t get a read on her at all, which just makes me even more nervous.   “Please sit” she gestures to the chair opposite her wiping my hands on my skirt as I sit down my palms sweating. “Professor Garcia has filled me in unfortunately there are no other classes that I can place you in at this moment.   You seem to be an immensely powerful young mage and I want to see how you handle your other classes before I decide to move things around. You will now have a gap, after breakfast to do with as you may, and please use it wisely.”   I nod and ask, “is that all mistress?” she looks down at me through her glasses   “Yes you may leave.” She replies.    I have never left a room so quickly in all my life, I rush out of there as if my ass were on fire.
