Ava's POV
The doors to the elevator open and my breath catches in my throat. The room is beautiful.
I step out straight into a wide hallway leading to a lounge with an open-plan kitchen. Instead of a wall separating the outside world, there is just a large window.
Dark wood floor runs throughout the apartment. There is a large, beautiful, white, fluffy rug with a glass coffee table sitting between the impressive light grey, velvet, L-shaped sofa, and huge flat-screen television.
I walk to the other side of the lounge, down another wide hallway, and open one of the doors. Baby pink walls and a soft, white carpet greet me. A queen-sized bed with a huge, silver, velvet, studded headboard rests against the wall, in the middle of the room. There’s white cotton bedding and two small silver bedside table’s on either side of the bed, as well as a full-body mirror on a wall next to the white vanity table, which has a smaller mirror with LED lights around it.
As I walk towards the double doors on the other side of the room, I find. A huge walk-in wardrobe, about the same size as mine back home, filled with uniforms. Red tartan skirts are hung up next to white, button-down, short-sleeved shirts and red ties.
Opening the drawers reveals lots of over-the-knee black socks with cute red bows at the side and some black tights. The next drawer contains gym wear in all different color sets.
I notice another door just inside the closet, which I open to find the whitest bathroom I have ever seen. I have to squint my eyes at first until they become accustomed to the brightness. White tiles lay on the floor and walls, and there’s a walk-in shower and another large mirror sitting just above the basin.
I head back to the wardrobe, and I start to unpack. I have just put all my clothes away and my phone pings. Pulling it out from my back pocket, I see Grace’s name appear on the screen.
Grace: I read the booklet. Classes start at 9 am tomorrow morning babe. I will meet you outside your tower at 8 so we can grab breakfast xx
Fuck! I haven’t even read the booklet yet, nor my class schedule. I shoot her a text back.
Me: Okay, babe. Just finished unpacking.
Going to look at my class schedule then take a shower and get an early night xx
I move towards the bed and throw the information pack Helen gave me down onto it. I look through all the paperwork until I spot the schedule I was looking for. Looking down the list of classes, I realise I have the same thing every day.
9 am: Spell Casting Room 101
10 am: Hexes and Charms Room 110
11 am: Healing Room 202
12 pm: Lunch
1 pm: Attack and Defence Training Arena
3 pm: Magic History 108
4 pm: Magical Creatures 112
6 pm: Dinner
Uh, magical history. How boring.
I take a quick shower before braiding my hair. Then I slip into my thin, strapped, black silk night dress, which stops mid-thigh and climbs into bed. All I can think about is that gorgeous man River which pisses me off slightly, I’m not here to drool over some boy. I must remind myself I am here to find myself and get some damn independence and prove to all those who doubted me that I can take care of myself! My eyes begin feeling heavier with each blink until I cannot keep them open any longer and I slip into a peaceful sleep.
I wake to the sound of my phone ringing. With my eyes still glued shut, my hand lazily wanders over the bedside table. Managing to find my phone, I peel open one eye to see Grace’s name light up the screen.
I press the answer button and put the phone to my ear.
“GET UP!” She shouts down the phone.
Wincing and pulling the phone away from my ear a bit so I don’t go deaf, I grumble back to her.
“Ava, it’s 7:45. You better have your royal butt outside that tower in fifteen minutes,” she moans then hangs up.
“s**t!” Jumping out of bed, I run to the bathroom, quickly brush my teeth and undo my braids, running the brush through my long hair, before applying some mascara. With my tanned skin, I never see the point of wearing a lot of make-up.
Getting into my black, lace underwear and matching bra, I decided to wear the cute over-the-knee black socks with the red bows on the sides, along with my wholly black Converse. I quickly button up my shirt, then step into my skirt and pull it up, tucking my shirt in. I throw on my tie and am ready to go.
I grab my black Chanel backpack on the way out and make my way out of the tower.
I see Grace standing there waiting for me, surrounded by a bunch of girls. Hell f*****g no! I storm over there, my fists clenched at my side. Once there, I push a girl out of my way and make it to the center of the semicircle they have made around my friend.
Placing myself in front of Grace. I narrow my eyes at the girl in the middle of the group setting herself up as the leader of this little bulling ring. Long, straight, black hair falls down her back. She has tanned skin, like mine, with eyes such a dark shade of brown that they look almost black.
“Aw, is Barbie here to save you?” she growls. Like, an actual growl.
“Back off, b***h,” I say standing tall.
There is a look of shock on her face as if this were the first time anyone had ever talked back to her. By the sounds of her friend’s gasps, I would say it was.
“How dare you? Who do you think you are, talking to me like that? Do you have any idea who I am?” She spat the words out like venom.
I let out a laugh and take a step closer to her, keeping my chin held up high. “The question you really should be asking is do you know who I am?”
I answer while looking her up and down as if she was nothing but the dirt beneath my shoe. I hate bullies and I was not going to let this stuck-up b***h and her friends try it with my Grace.
A man appears from behind the girl I was now having a stare-off with and wraps an arm around her shoulder.
“Ladies, are we playing nice?” he says in a teasing tone my eyes snap up to meet his coursing my mouth to pop open.
“River!” I say in confusion at the sudden jealousy that raises to the surface at the sight of his arm wrapped around this girl.
His eyes lock with mine then slowly scan my body a shiver runs down my spine something is off with him.
“Princess,” he says and nods his head at me the girls around us immediately break out in whispers “she’s real?” I hear one of the girls in the group ask.
“I’m Cole, River’s twin.” f**k me there is two of them!
“She’s a princess,” the girl with the black hair asks aloud as she looks at me with irritation and annoyance.
I have such a smug look on my face as I watch her struggle for words.
“Come on let’s go get food I’m starving,” Cole says as he pulls her towards the main building.
Grace suddenly finds her voice from her place behind me “yeah her dad will totally behead you if you speak to his princess like that again bitch.” She shouts after the group GRACE! trying to keep a straight face but failing I let out a laugh.
She places her hand in mine and squeezes. “Come on troublemaker lets go and get food before class,” I say as we walk to the main building.
