Chapter III: Chemicals React

836 Words
During the meeting we went over the success of the magazine this year, how my column quickly exceeded expectations for the months it was in circulation, both men and women alike couldn't get enough of it, the more letters I received the more inspired for topics to discuss I became. "Because the letters are becoming constant and hard to handle, Luna we are giving you a ten page spread, where you can answer the top six letters of your choosing." My jaw dropped, I gave Rico the idea last month and he actually did consider it. "Th-thank you so much, I didn't think you would give it a chance!" I replied excitedly, he in return gave me a slick smile and wink that caused me to squirm in my skirt. "I told you I'd consider it, the board thought it was a great idea so there you have it, your very own column expansion." He said looking at me, as he moved on to other topics. "How are we on the I've been scammed column?" He asked Breanne the one who ran that section. She replied that a few cases were right up her alley and she was still sifting through it. As we wrapped up the meeting we had planned to expand and print two new columns, Breanne's 'I've been scammed' and my 'Dear Luna' column expansion, now it was time to filter through letters and pick the best six. This was going to be hard, some letters were too good to skip. I walked back to my office with my head in the clouds and post it notes full of things I jotted down at the meeting and got to work, excited about my new venture, writing was my passion and one page wasn't suitable for me anymore. As I began to look through the hundreds of letters my phone went off again, double crap, I forgot to tell Rico, Denise has been calling. "Hey, just got out of the meeting and didn't get a chance to tell Rico." She sighed in disappointment and said she understood, she spoke to me in a tone that let me know she thought it was my fault, which angered me slightly, but, why was he avoiding her? He clearly had his phone on him during the meeting, I saw him stare at the screen and place it back down again if it was her calling then he definitely ignored her. "I'm leaving my office in a few, I will tell him I promise." I hung up the call and got up from my desk to relate the message, but Rico was already at my door, I opened it before he could knock, he waltzed right in, his cologne burned into my soul and I had to get back behind the safety of my desk. My god this man smelled heavenly. He opened his mouth to speak, my ears perked up as I sat at the edge of my hard glass paneled desk. "Um good meeting today, very uh, very productive." Rico? Stuttering? "Ehm yeah, it was, thank you again for giving me a shot at this expansion." I agreed as he walked around my office like a lost puppy dog. "No worries, I told you I was gonna make it possible. Were you clear about your deadline?" That's an odd question to ask, but I nodded. He was making small talk. "Oh! um, Denise has been calling you. She's been blowing up my phone because you don't answer." He completely ignored my statement, and paced back to me, standing a bit too close. "I know you feel it too Luna." He smiled like he didn't believe what he just said. "What?" I knew exactly what he was talking about, I just wanted him to elaborate. He came closer and I forgot how to breathe, his hands pulled my waist close to him. "The chemistry between us, I know you feel it too." He said faintly and my heart almost jumped out of my mouth and onto his shirt. "Ever since that moment we had at the Christmas party, we've been harboring feelings and you know it..." He raged on. I took my mind back to the party. Rico spilled wine all over his shirt, and recurred to me to help him clean it since Denise was being a mood killer and left the party early, the party was being held in the largest conference room in the building so we had to walk out and troop to my office, the blinds in my office were closed, so no one could look into my office, I turned on the lights and a somewhat liquored up Rico was standing a mere inch away from me. "You have the prettiest brown eyes, I've ever seen..." He said, I blushed. "Oh please, You're drunk, that's the liquor speaking." I told him, He shook his head. "I'm not drunk at all, I'm being honest is what it is..."  We kissed that night, and that's when this entire roller coaster was put into motion.
