When Ellie woke up, the smell of fresh, warm toast had already filled the apartment air. She got dressed and opened the door in puzzlement. After all, she and Brady had gotten into a fight just the previous night. Could this be some sort of apology? she wondered. To her bewilderment, she found Mr. Brady standing at the kitchen counter, preparing breakfast for the two of them. He smiled smiling a 'good morning', but it was all still much too strange for her. Not knowing how to react, Ellie thanked him skeptically, worrying that she would have to pay a price for eating that toast.
She ate alone as her roommate left for school earlier. Was this it? Was it the end of the world? The apocalypse? It is the only explanation she could think of for his kindness. Soon enough, she too left for school
