The drive was silent. Cars whooshed by as if their lives depended on how fast they reached their destinations. Ours rolled slowly as one who awaited death at the end of the road. I looked to the side, but Alec remained silent and his eyes fixed on the road. He felt my gaze and bit his lip. Slowly, his hand lifted from the stick gear and rested on my leg. My heart throbbed as though he transferred all his pain onto me. I took his hand in mine and squeezed it tightly. With no words, our touch said it all. A street behind my own, we stopped.
