I was getting out of my car the next night when I saw her pull in. I waited until she’d gotten her bass out of the back and closed the door. “Hey,” I said. “Hi! I’m so excited, I don’t know how I’ll play tonight,” “Excited? Why?” “I have an appointment with Mr. Morrow tomorrow morning at ten o’clock,” she said. “Really? I hadn’t heard.” “Yes. I spent all yesterday checking my portfolio to make sure it’s all there.” “You’re ready,” I told her. “You don’t have to worry.” “If you can get away early, we can go out for lunch afterwards.” “That sounds good.
