I woke up at about 5 am because Ella had a nightmare about our little adventure. And since then, I didn’t sleep. I couldn’t. Finally, my alarm went off at 7 am. “Ella. Wake up. Ell.” I shook her a little but considering that neither of us slept much I’m not surprised that she’s not waking up. “Ella. Come on. We’ll be late for school.” she groaned and slowly woke up. “How are you feeling?” “Tired.” I chuckled at that. But I got serious when I saw her face, I got serious. I saw how scared she was from last night. “Ella. It’s going to be okay. We’re safe now.” Ella just nodded her head and stood up to go get changed. She winced a little when she got up and on her way to my bathroom. The wound still hurt her. Falling back on my bed I closed my eyes whishing that time travel was real and a could go back in time to erase last night’s adventure. When I heard her coming out of the bathroom, I stood up took some clothes and went to change. After I changed, I look myself in the mirror once more before I went out of the. I was wearing ripped jeans and blue hoodie and black vans. My blond long straight hair was put in a ponytail. Looking at my face I realized that I look worse than I thought I would. Even a blind man could see on a mile that I didn’t get much sleep. Stepping out of the bathroom I saw Ella looking at her wound. “How is it?” she looked at me. “It’s getting better.” she looked at me confused. “Well, that’s a good thing, right?” I stepped towards her to look at her wound. And she was right. It was getting better. Way better. And fast. Too fast. “Becs. It shouldn’t be this better this soon. It’s going too fast. Something it’s wrong. By the time we come to abuela it will be just an innocent scratch.” She was right. So, I took my phone to take a picture of it so we could show it to her abuela if she wouldn’t believe us. “Come on. Now we can show her how it is now in case it really gets better in such a short time. Let’s change the bandage. It covered in blood.” After I changed the bandage we left for school. Each of us took an apple from the counter considering that we were gonna be late if we don’t hurry. The drive to school was silent and only the songs from the radio was playing. Right now, we were listening to Hold Back the River by James Bay. When we came to school the first bell just rang. We hurried to our first class which was English Literature. Storming in the classroom the teacher glared at us. Great. He hates me from the start and now he hates me even more. “Miss Anderson and Miss Garcia. Let’s not state the obvious which is that you’re late on the first day of your senior year. Since you Anderson are the one with lots of excuses why don’t you tell us why you two are late. This time.” The teacher kept glaring at us. But now he sat on his desk waiting for me to come up with an excuse. I had to think fast. “The dog.” The teacher looked at me like he didn’t believe me at all. And honestly, I wouldn’t believe me either. Especially after what I’m about to say. “My neighbor’s dog stopped us.” “Oh really?” “Yes.” “And how did the dog stop you. May I ask?” “He…attacked us.” He lifted his eyebrow and waited for me to continue. And remembering what happened last night I decided to take advantage of it. Sorry Ell. “He attacked Ella here.” I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and she looked at me a little angry. He still doesn’t believe me. “He bit her really bad on her side actually. And…um…that’s why we had to stay behind…to…um…clean her wound.” Now he looked at Ella not believing what I said until he sees the wound. “If the dog really bit you as Anderson says. May I see the wound Garcia?” Ella didn’t say anything just lifted her shirt up and removing the bandage from her wound showing it to the teacher. A sudden gasp broke me from my thoughts and I finally looked up seeing that there’s a new guy standing beside the teacher. And he was hot. How in hell did I missed him?! I mean he is hot. His dirty blond hair and green eyes with his strong jaw. And his muscles he clearly works out. A lot. He was looking at Ella’s wound with wide eyes and like he knew I was looking at him and of my thoughts about him he looked up at me and the time froze. It was like it was just the two of us. Ella’s elbow in my side broke my trance and now I could hear that the teacher was talking to me. “Well Miss Anderson. If you’re finally done checking out our new student.” He took a break so what he said could settle in everyone’s mind while I just looked at the floor feeling the blush coming. “You could help your friend to see a nurse. I admire your skills of the first aid but she should still see a professional.” “That’s a wise decision. I’ll take her right away. Goodbye.” “Goodbye Sir.” Deciding that I will joke a little with him for not believing me I looked at him with a mischievous look saying “There’s no need to call me sir. I am a woman after all.” With that I turned around but not before my eyes decided to have a brain of their own and look at the new guy one more time and well. Let’s just say he wasn’t happy. He was looking at me like I killed his favorite puppy. I just raised an eyebrow and turn around and left. “Come on Ella.” She stopped and I looked at her and she was looking at me angry. What’s with everyone today. Is it lets hate Rebecca day? Cause everyone is looking at me angry. First the teacher then the new guy and now my best friend? “What?” “Why did you use last night’s adventure as an excuse to why we’re late?” “Well. Would you rather see that we would get detention? On the first day of senior year?” she gave up knowing I was right. “Fine. Let’s go.” She gripped my hand and pulled me after her to the nurse. The visit to the nurse went like I expected. She wanted us to tell her what happened and when. And because one bite from a dog can’t give so much damage, I had to lie to her that the dog bit her multiple times. She told us to go and see a doctor to get rabies vaccination just to be safe. Because apparently you can get it if the animal that bit you had it. After she looked after Ella’s wound, she sends us home for today but not before reminding us to go and see the doctor. After we left the nurse, we decided that it’s best if we go and see abuela and talk to her. Ella lived with her abuela for three years now. Ever since her parents died in the car crash. Arriving to her home abuela was already waiting for us on the porch looking worried. The school probably already called her and told her what happened. She started cursing in Spanish and I had no idea what she was saying. I do great in Spanish in school but when abuela talks this fast I have no idea what she’s saying. I could hear Ella saying something to calm her abuela down. After that she calmed down a little and invited us inside. Once inside we explained what happened last night showing her Ella’s wound. Reaction she had on her face when she saw the wound matched the reaction the new guy at school had. “Abuela? Do you know what’s happening to me? Last night…last night the wound was way worse than it is today.” “Sit down. There’s something you need to hear about that wound.” We both sat down and none of liked what she said next. “You my nieta are going through the change.” “What?!” “Listen first then ask questions.” When she made sure we were listening she continue with her speech. “When you get wounded by a werewolf especially on the blood moon their venom comes inside of your body. And when you have their venom inside of you there are 3 ways of how this will end.” She took a deep breath like she was afraid of what she’s about to say. “The first way is that nothing will happen to you. You will be fine and able to live your life as it is. The second is that at the next full moon you will turn into a wolf and you’ll become a werewolf. And if you get wounded by your mate that is exactly what will happen. Mate is your other half, your soulmate.” “Abuela? What’s the third way?” She didn’t say anything. Tear came in her eyes and I knew what was it. I knew. And I was afraid. Because I was ready to dye first and leave Ella but not the other way around. I was not ready for that. “You die.” I finished for abuela and Ella didn’t want to believe me. Of course, she didn’t. Nobody would. “Abuela?” by now she was knelling in front of her abuela begging her to say that I’m wrong. But I know I’m not. “She’s saying the truth. If it would be your mate you would turn into a werewolf. But if it was not, you’ll either die or be able to live on.” All the three of us were crying now. The thought of losing by best friend is killing me.
