Trepidation coursed through Prince Nagabath's royal blood as he slowly walked towards his bedchamber on the other side of the Palace.  Throughout the day, while he attended the regular sessions at court, the thought of only one person took up the majority of his concentration - his beloved , the one and only Simrana.  He was the prince of the Maurya dynasty.  His father Chandra Prakash Brahma was the 11th ruler of the dynasty and his late mother, Queen Mayawati was the beautiful princess of the faraway land of Saraswata, situated on the banks of the river Kaveri.  Many centuries ago, a prophet had predicted that the 12th ruler of the Maurya Dynasty would be the most powerful one.  He would be a boon granted by Lord Shiva himself and under his rule, the Mauryas would reach the peak of wealth and power. He had been quite right ! When Queen Mayawati was pregnant, she saw a dream where Lord Shiva appeared and blessed her.  Her son was a gift from the Lord of Creation, Upkeep and Destruction of the world - The Almighty Shiva. Prince Nagabath sighed. Like the other days, the meeting at the courtroom had been quite impressive, productive and exhausting.  He along with the ministers and his father were discussing about increasing the agricultural production of the Kingdom. They found the idea of opening more wells in the villages quite appealing. The subjects of the dynasty were like their own flesh and blood. They needed to work diligently to ensure the welfare of the subjects. However for the past few days, the time at work had been quite distracting. Prince Nagabath was very dedicated was very dedicated towards his duty and took his position at the courtroom as a sacred one. He gave his heart and soul to his work and yet he was agitated since the past few weeks.  He was not being able to focus at all and the image of a certain black haired beauty invaded his thoughts every day and night, even when he went to work ! A sigh escaped Nagabath's lips. All his friends, the ministers at the court and even his beloved father disapproved Simrana and Nagabath's romantic affair.  For Simrana was no royal, she was a normal maiden, daughter of the royal gardener.  Sure her beauty was incomparable and discussed throughout the Dynasty, many men died while waiting to catch a glimpse of her eternal beauty, but their relationship was frowned down upon. A royal romancing a commoner ! How abhorrent can that be? People assured a demon had possessed the young Prince's mind, numbing of all his sense of rationality. However he was the Prince. No one dared to question the Prince otherwise Nagabath would behead them immediately. Even though his well wishers despised their forbidden relationship there was little they could do. Nagabath was well aware of the reasons as to why he had madly fallen in love with Simrana, a common gardener's daughter.  A sight so enticing, so mesmerising and so eye catching, Simrana had captured Nagabath's heart, entirely. Simrana was entirely different from any of the other women with whom he had had any affair.  All those women, as his dear friend General Dhasara unceremoniously pointed out were poor imitations of apsaras.  However, Simrana was a ravishing young lady. She was perfect in every sense.  Her slender figure was proportionately curved, her milky white, soft and smooth skin and perfect long, dark , wavy locks made Nagabath's heart beat a million times faster.  Her face was a mixture of innocence and intelligence. Large honey coloured orbs and rose red lips adorned her pretty face, with tiny freckles here and there. Nagabath was attracted to her like a honeybee towards nectar. It was surely a match made in heaven, or so he thought. Nagabath himself was quite a charming man. He was the most handsome and powerful king of the entire Maurya Dynasty.  He was a blessing from Lord Shiva himself and inherited the Lord's looks. His sunkissed body rippled with strong, taut muscles, his enchanting blue-green eyes and his brooding height made him quite popular among the female population of the Dynasty. Stories about his looks became the centre of their fantasies. Nagabath always thought about Simrana, she was a life giving force in his life, who with her extreme love and care made him feel at peace, made him yearn for more. Her laughter was like music to his ears and whenever she smiled, her entire face lit up like thousand stars.  Simrana was, in the truest sense, his eternal sunshine.
