When power collides

936 Words
The first move wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic. It was inevitable. Kael stepped forward. Ronan didn’t move aside. And that was all it took. The ground cracked beneath them. A shockwave of raw Alpha power exploded outward, sending dust and leaves spiraling into the air. The wolves behind Kael staggered back instantly, unable to withstand the force. Lyra felt it slam into her chest. Hard. Violent. The bond reacted like it was being torn in two directions at once. Her knees buckled. Pain surged— But this time… Something answered it. “Stop—!” she tried to say. Too late. Kael struck first. Fast. Brutal. Precise. His fist collided with Ronan’s jaw with enough force to snap bone—but Ronan didn’t fall. Didn’t even stagger. He turned his head slowly, like the hit barely registered. Then— He smiled. Lyra’s breath hitched. That wasn’t normal. Nothing about him was normal. Ronan moved. Not like Kael. Not with raw dominance. But with something colder. Sharper. Deadlier. His counterattack was instant. A blur. A crack echoed through the clearing as Kael was driven backward, boots carving into the ground from the force. The warriors gasped. No one had ever seen their Alpha pushed back like that. Not once. Kael straightened slowly. His expression changed. The arrogance— Gone. Replaced with focus. Real focus. “You’re not just an Alpha,” Kael said, his voice low. Ronan rolled his shoulders once, loose, unbothered. “I never said I was.” The air thickened. Heavier. More dangerous. Then— They both shifted. Bones snapped. Flesh tore. Power erupted. Two massive wolves stood where men had been. Kael’s form was dark, imposing, radiating dominance that demanded submission. Ronan’s— Larger. Leaner. His fur darker, almost shadowed. And his eyes— Not the usual golden glow of an Alpha. Something deeper. Something ancient. Lyra’s heart pounded. What is he…? They collided. The impact shook the forest. Claws met claws. Teeth snapped. Fur and blood flew in violent bursts as the two Alphas tore into each other with terrifying precision. Kael fought with raw power. Ronan fought like he had nothing to lose. Every strike from Kael could kill. Every strike from Ronan looked like it would. Lyra stumbled back, her breath coming fast, uneven. The bond screamed. Pulling her toward Kael. Dragging her closer to the fight. Mate. No. She shook her head violently. “He’s not—” Pain cut her off. The bond surged again. Stronger. Wilder. Unstable. Her vision blurred. The world tilted— And then— It snapped. Power exploded from her. A pulse. Invisible. But devastating. Both wolves froze mid-attack. The ground beneath Lyra cracked outward in a sharp ring, dust lifting into the air like something had detonated at her feet. Her head snapped up. Her eyes— Burned silver. Not flickering. Not fading. Bright. Uncontrolled. The forest went silent. Dead silent. Even the wind stopped. Kael stepped back. Slowly. His wolf form tense, alert. Watching her. Not with anger. Not with possession. With something new. Something dangerous. Ronan shifted back first. Human again. Completely calm. Completely unbothered. Like he had expected this. Lyra’s breath came in sharp, uneven gasps. “What… is happening to me?” she whispered. Her voice didn’t sound like hers. It echoed. Layered. Wrong. Kael shifted next. His chest rose and fell heavily, eyes locked onto her. “You’re losing control,” he said. Ronan’s gaze flicked to him. “No,” he corrected quietly. “She’s gaining it.” The words hit differently. Heavier. More real. Lyra staggered, her hands clutching her head as the power surged again—wild, chaotic, burning through her veins like fire she couldn’t contain. “It hurts—” she gasped. And for the first time— Both Alphas moved toward her at the same time. They stopped. Right before reaching her. Because the power around her flared violently. Warning. Danger. Unstable. “Lyra,” Kael said, his voice lower now. Not commanding. Careful. “Calm down.” Her head snapped toward him. Her silver eyes locked onto his. And something inside her snapped again. Memories hit. The rejection. The pain. The humiliation. His voice. I reject you. The power reacted. Exploded. A shockwave burst outward. Violent. Uncontrolled. Unforgiving. Kael was thrown back. Hard. Slamming into the ground with enough force to crack the earth beneath him. Ronan didn’t move. Didn’t even flinch. Lyra froze. Her chest heaving. Her hands trembling. She had done that. Silence followed. Heavy. Shocked. Unreal. Kael pushed himself up slowly. And this time— He wasn’t looking at her like she was weak. Or broken. Or disposable. He was looking at her like he didn’t recognize her. “Lyra…” he said quietly. But she shook her head. Stepping back. Fear creeping in. Not of him. Of herself. Ronan stepped forward. Slow. Careful. The only one not reacting like she was something dangerous. “You’re fine,” he said calmly. She laughed. A broken, breathless sound. “I just threw an Alpha across a clearing.” His gaze didn’t waver. “Yes,” he said. “And you’re still standing.” Kael’s voice cut in. Sharp. Certain. “That’s not normal.” Ronan didn’t look at him. “I know.” Silence. Then— Ronan finally spoke the truth. Not all of it. But enough. “She’s not an omega.” The words echoed. Heavy. Final. Unavoidable. Lyra’s heart stopped. “What?” Kael went still. Completely still. Ronan’s eyes locked onto hers. And this time— There was no hesitation. “She never was.”
