Vivian's pov It was such a hectic day. New York City sure has a way of sapping strength from one's being. The hustling and bustling appeals to one's mind, but there's always a price to pay - fatigue. “My entire body craves a masculine massage”, I comforted myself as the driver sped off along the highway. It might have been a hectic day but the news I got some hours ago is preventing me from leaning my head and falling asleep. One might want to term my reaction as being immature, but I definitely would not care about that. I've been observing some symptoms for the past two weeks, but I wouldn't want to give myself false hope. Waking up to sudden irritation, nausea, and heavy cravings pointed to one thing, but I needed to be sure. After attending to my schedule at my business place, I diverted to the hospital. Remembering how everything went just makes me want to scream. I had alighted from the car when I met pairs staring intensely at me. I mean, who wouldn't? Who does not know the wife of the famous Austin Lincoln? Articles published have described me as a perfect complement to him. Well, thanks to him, no one would have thought I existed anywhere on the surface of the earth. Reminiscing how life suddenly took a turn for me makes me appreciate the unpredictability of life and its ability to take us on unexpected paths. I am Vivian. Life did not write a good script for me. I lost both parents at a tender age and was forced to do anything to survive, excluding anything that would taint my dignity. I know I did not have it all, but I'm also convinced that I deserve something better than what life wrote for me. I grew up on the streets of New York City and survived by stealing. Just when I had accepted my life, a twist happened. It was the popular Lincoln Supermarket. I watched as an elegantly dressed lady walked with splendor and majesty. “She must be very rich” I observed. The battle in my empty stomach made me proceed steadily towards her. As I made to grab her purse, she caught me without even looking at me. “How precise!” I bit my inner cheeks in horror. “What do you possibly want to do with my purse, little ma'am?” She smiled. Oh. She was so warm. “I'm hungry, ma'am, and I need something to eat”. I sure do know better than to give an arrogant response. “Poor beautiful girl”, she looked at me passionately. “Would you mind working as a maid for me?” She asked. “I would” I replied almost immediately. I was just eighteen when that incident happened. Later, I found out she was the well-known Mrs Lincoln. Life as a maid was rough, but as long as my feeding and shelter were guaranteed, I did my job to the best of my ability. Things got better for me when I fell in love with the heir of the Lincolns. What else would a young lady at twenty-one wish for other than to marry a billionaire? “Mrs Vivian, you may now see the doctor” The receptionist smiled at me, jolting me from my thoughts. “Hi Doctor Greg” I smiled. “Hi ma'am” He reciprocated with a bigger smile. “I think I'm pregnant”. I gave a funny look that earned laughter from him. “Well, there's only one way to confirm”. He gave me that cheeky smile. After doing the necessary test, he called me into his office and broke the news to me. “You are two months pregnant” he announced. Tears immediately found a way out of my eyes. “This is the best news ever!!” I screamed within. “You might want this”. I handed a bundle of cash to Doctor Greg as I scurried out of his office. “Oh my goodness!” I squeaked immediately. The driver got to my home. My husband would love this. “My love!” I screamed as I ran up the stairs. “Where the hell is this man?” I shouted excitedly. “Hey. Come out from wherever you are hiding. You really should come here now” I said calmly, as I was used to his hide-and-seek games. Just then, I heard soft moans from the bedroom. This must be a comedy show. I trembled as I got nearer. “AUSTIN!!” I screamed. “Dora?” Realization hit me hard this time. Dora? “I'm sorry baby. But I never really did love you. You were so blinded by your love for me that you thought I loved you. You were just someone the Lord sent to heal my broken heart”, Lincoln said with pleasure. “Babe, this is Dora. She left you. She abandoned you at your lowest”, I cried, wishing he would come to his senses. Just maybe this was all a nightmare. I bent down to my knees crying loudly as mucus found its way out of my nose. “Vivian love. I am in my right senses. You see Dora here has always been a spoiled kid”. He swallowed a throaty moan and continued. “This hurts” My eyes could. Not nearly see well as they were clouded with tears. “Dora here is now a changed person and I love her so much. I never stopped loving her. Isn't that so?” He s*****d her butt as she nodded like a baby. As I made to charge towards Dora, she stood up naked. “Babe, the show is taking longer than usual”, she laughed. “You can't do this to me, Austin. I love you so much. I never stopped. Please you're hurting me.” More fluid escaped. “Hope this is not what I'm thinking?” I asked, fearing that the worst had happened. Oh no! “You are very smart. I'm divorcing you”. He broke the news. Just when I wanted to break the news, I had one broken to me. “You might need cash also because your luggage is waiting for you outside. Guess it was too dark. That was why you couldn't see them waiting for your presence”. Dora threw four bundles of cash in my face. “Get your pathetic self out of my mansion” I was so confused. I was angry when life was looking so bright. Where exactly do broken hearts go?
