THE MAN WHO FOUND HERSix years ago, Amara Wren disappeared. The same night, Lucien Veyr—the heir to one of Veridian's most powerful families—was found dead in a fire at a secluded Veyr estate. No one found Amara's body.No one found the truth. The investigation ended with more questions than answers, and eventually the world moved on. Some believed Amara had died that night. Others believed she had fled after betraying Lucien.Amara allowed both stories to survive.Because being believed dead was safer than being found alive. Now, under the name Lyra Quinn, she has spent six years building a life that has nothing to do with the woman she used to be. She has a quiet job restoring damaged paintings and documents, a small apartment, one trusted friend, and a carefully guarded past. She doesn't talk about the night at the estate. She doesn't talk about Lucien. And she certainly doesn't talk about the things she remembers. Then, one night, her phone rings from an unknown number. She doesn't answer.A voicemail arrives instead.A voice from the past whispers:"You're still afraid of the dark."By the time Lyra leaves work, she knows someone has found her.A black car follows her through the rain.A stranger watches her from the shadows. And then she meets a man who calls himself Elias. He appears at exactly the moment she needs someone to protect her.He asks the right questions. He notices the things other people miss. And despite every instinct telling her not to trust him, Lyra feels something around him that she hasn't felt in years.Safe.She doesn't know that Elias Veyr has spent six years searching for her.He doesn't know that the woman he's finally found has become someone entirely different from the girl he remembers from his brother's final night.Elias wants answers. What happened to Lucien? Why did Amara disappear? What did she see that night? And most importantly—was she responsible for his brother's death? But Elias's investigation becomes complicated when the woman he believes may have destroyed his family becomes the one person he can't stop thinking about.Lyra knows Elias is hiding something. She can feel it in the way he watches her.In the questions he doesn't ask.In the moments when his expression changes whenever Lucien's name is mentioned.Yet the closer she gets to him, the harder it becomes to stay away.Their attraction grows into something neither of them planned for.Something dangerous.Something real. But Lyra's past isn't finished with her.A photograph from six years ago suddenly resurfaces.A warning appears at her door.Someone begins watching her movements. And buried inside the memories she has spent years trying to suppress is a strange symbol she can never forget:a silver moth. The symbol appeared on the night Lucien died. Now it is appearing again.Someone knows Lyra survived.Someone knows what happened at the estate. And someone is willing to kill to make sure the truth remains buried. As Lyra begins recovering fragments of the night she lost everything, she discovers that the story she believed for six years may have been carefully constructed. The people she trusted may not have been who they seemed. The people she feared may not be the real enemy. And the man she is slowly falling in love with may have entered her life for a reason far more complicated than coincidence.Because Elias didn't find Lyra by accident. He was looking for her.And when Lyra finally discovers who Elias Veyr really is, the fragile trust between them will be shattered. She will have to decide whether the man standing beside her is the person who can finally help her uncover the truth—or the person who has been closest to destroying her all along. She disappeared to escape the past.He spent six years searching for the woman who vanished. Now they've found each other. But the truth about that night has been waiting for them both. And some truths don't just destroy lives. They destroy love.

CHAPTER 1 - THE CALL
At 11:47 p.m., Lyra Quinn's phone rang for the third time. She didn't answer it. The restoration studio was silent except for the soft hum of the ventilation system and the rain tapping against the windows three floors above the street. Lyra kept working. Under the white light of the restoration lamp, a century-old portrait slowly emerged beneath her brush. A woman's face had been almost completely obscured by years of smoke and dust, but Lyra had learned long ago that damaged things rarely disappeared completely. They only needed someone patient enough to find what was still there. Her phone stopped ringing. She exhaled. Five seconds later, it rang again. Lyra's hand froze. She stared at the screen. UNKNOWN NUMBER. Her stomach tightened. She hadn't received an unknown call in six years. Not one. She placed the brush down. The phone continued vibrating against the table. Once. Twice. Three times. Then it stopped. Lyra waited. Nothing. She looked at the studio door. Locked. She looked at the windows. Locked. Then her phone lit up. NEW VOICEMAIL. She didn't want to listen. She knew that before she pressed play. The message contained only breathing. Slow. Quiet. Close enough to the microphone that she could hear the person's breath catch. Lyra's fingers went cold. Then a voice whispered: "You're still afraid of the dark." The message ended. For several seconds, Lyra didn't move. Then she stood. Her chair scraped sharply against the floor. She grabbed her coat. The painting could wait. She switched off the restoration lamp and walked toward the door. Halfway there, she stopped. Something was wrong. The hallway light outside the studio was on. She always turned it off before leaving. Lyra stared through the narrow glass panel beside the door. Empty hallway. She unlocked the door. Nothing. She stepped outside. The corridor was silent. She locked the studio behind her and headed for the elevator. Her reflection followed her down the polished walls. Twenty-six years old. Dark hair pulled into a loose knot. Black coat. No jewelry except a thin silver ring she never removed. Lyra pressed the elevator button. The doors opened. She stepped inside. Then she noticed the security camera above the elevator. Its red indicator light was off. Her breathing stopped. She looked at it for another second. Then pressed the button for the ground floor. The elevator descended. One floor. Two. Three. Lyra reached into her pocket and closed her fingers around her keys. Four years ago, she would have called the police. Three years ago, she would have called Mina. Tonight, she did neither. She had learned that survival sometimes meant knowing when not to ask for help. The elevator doors opened. The lobby was empty. The security guard's chair was vacant. Lyra stared at it. "Mr. Hale?" No answer. Rain hammered the glass entrance doors. She walked toward them. Stopped. Looked back. The empty chair. The dark hallway. The elevator. Something had changed. She just couldn't tell what. Lyra pushed through the doors. Cold rain struck her face. She pulled her hood up and started walking. The street was almost empty. Her apartment was twelve minutes away. She could make it. She walked faster. Then she heard an engine. A black sedan rolled slowly past her. Lyra didn't look at it. Kept walking. The car continued down the street. She breathed again. Then its brake lights came on. Lyra stopped. The car stopped too. Her pulse jumped. She turned left. The sedan remained where it was. She walked faster. Thirty seconds. A minute. She heard the engine again. Behind her. Lyra didn't turn around. She started running. Her boots struck the pavement. The rain became heavier. Her breath came faster. The street ahead was empty. She turned another corner. The footsteps behind her continued. She ran harder. And then— someone grabbed her arm. Lyra spun around violently. "Let me go!" The man released her immediately. He was tall. Dark coat. Rainwater running from his hair. His expression was strangely calm. "Are you alright?" Lyra stared at him. Something about him felt wrong. Not dangerous. Worse. Familiar. She looked past his shoulder. The black sedan was turning onto the street. Panic surged through her. She grabbed the man's coat. "Don't let them take me." His expression changed. Only slightly. But she saw it. He looked over his shoulder. The sedan stopped. Then slowly drove away. The man watched until it disappeared. When he looked back at her, his eyes were different. Sharper. "Who are they?" Lyra let go of his coat. "No one." "You were running from no one?" She swallowed. "Yes." He almost smiled. "That's not very convincing." Despite herself, Lyra looked at him properly for the first time. He was probably around thirty. Dark eyes. Sharp features. A small scar near his left eyebrow. Nothing about him suggested panic. Nothing about him suggested fear. He looked like a man who was accustomed to walking into dangerous situations rather than running from them. "What's your name?" he asked. Lyra hesitated. "Lyra." "Lyra what?" "Quinn." He studied her. For one inexplicable second, she felt as though he were searching her face for something. Then he said: "Elias." No surname. Just Elias. The rain fell between them. Lyra stepped backward. "I should go." "You probably shouldn't." She frowned. "Excuse me?" His gaze moved toward the street. "The car." Her heart sank. It had stopped at the end of the block. Elias looked at her. "Do you have somewhere safe to go?" Lyra said nothing. He understood the answer. "Come with me." She almost laughed. "Why would I do that?" "Because whoever was following you just made a mistake." "What mistake?" "They let you see them." Lyra stared at him. "And you know that how?" His eyes held hers. "Because people who want to follow someone don't normally make themselves obvious." A beat of silence. Then Elias stepped aside. "You don't know me," Lyra said. "No." "Then why are you helping me?" He looked at her for a long moment. "Maybe I don't like watching people run." Something about the answer unsettled her. Lyra stepped backward again. "I can take care of myself." "I believe you." She turned. Started walking. Three steps. Four. Then Elias spoke behind her. "Goodnight, Lyra Quinn." She stopped. Slowly turned around. He was already walking in the opposite direction. Lyra watched him disappear into the rain. Her phone vibrated. She pulled it from her pocket. One new message. No number. No name. Just a photograph. Her hands began to shake. The photograph was old. Six years old. A younger version of herself stood beside a man she hadn't seen since the night she disappeared. Lucien Veyr. Lyra stared at the photograph. Then she read the message beneath it. YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED DEAD. Across the street, a man stood beneath a black umbrella. Watching her. And somewhere in the darkness behind him, Elias Veyr was watching too. He had spent six years searching for Amara Wren. Tonight, he had finally found her.
