Chapter 22
"Keep in touch, Kayla" I whispered to my friend as I hugged her goodbye.
I followed Peter out to his car, ready to leave without waiting to hear an answer from my friend. Peter and I were leaving, not sure what our next step was. Kayla stayed behind to close up Darlene's house before she headed to the country club for the meeting. There was still planning to do for the Christmas party for the children. The community would go ahead with the party, regardless of what the outcome over Tommy would be. Small children didn't understand what adults go through, and it was the holiday season when they needed to be joyful and forget about their worries; even if it was just for a couple hours at a party.
