The Beginning
Sophie sat at her desk, tapping her pencil against her notebook. She was trying to focus on her math homework, but her mind kept wandering to the new boy who had just transferred to her school. His name was Alex, and she couldn't get him out of her head.
She had seen him for the first time in the school cafeteria, where he had sat alone at a table, his nose buried in a book. She had been struck by his dark hair and piercing blue eyes, and something in the way he carried himself had drawn her to him.
Sophie had tried to ignore the fluttering feeling in her chest, but it was no use. She found herself daydreaming about Alex all the time, imagining what it would be like to talk to him or even just to be near him.
As she sat there, struggling with her homework, the bell rang, signalling the end of class. Sophie gathered her things and made her way to her locker, where she was met by her best friend, Emma.
"Hey, Soph," Emma said, grinning. "Did you hear about the new guy?"
Sophie felt her cheeks flush. "Yeah, I saw him in the cafeteria," she admitted.
"He's so cute, right?" Emma said, nudging her. "You should totally talk to him."
Sophie felt her heart race at the thought. "I don't know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if he's not interested?"
Emma rolled her eyes. "Come on, Sophie. You'll never know unless you try."
Sophie took a deep breath and nodded. She knew Emma was right. If she wanted to get to know Alex, she would have to take a chance.
The rest of the day passed in a blur, and Sophie found herself counting down the minutes until she could go home and gather her courage. When the final bell rang, she grabbed her backpack and headed out of the school, determined to find Alex and introduce herself.
As she made her way through the crowded halls, Sophie's heart pounded in her chest. She spotted Alex at the end of the hallway, his back to her, and took a deep breath before making her way over to him.
"Hi," she said, tapping him on the shoulder. "I'm Sophie. I saw you in the cafeteria earlier and I just wanted to say hello."
Alex turned around, his eyes meeting hers. Sophie felt a jolt of electricity shoot through her body as their gazes locked.
"Hi, Sophie," he said, his voice soft. "I'm Alex."
And just like that, Sophie knew that her life would never be the same.
