RHEA
I stood outside the wooden door of Ren's study.
After living in secret for so many years, I was finally going to make my existence known to the pack as Ren's Luna.
"Harder Ren... Please, " a woman moaned.
“Go deeper…”
My feet froze. I was shaking as I reached for the handle. I had come to tell him that the late Alphas' will was missing, unaware he was f*****g another woman.
"f**k! You're driving me crazy, " Ren whispered, his voice thick with desire.
I slightly pushed the door open. What I saw was like a knife to my chest. Ren, my fiancé, the man who had chosen me as his mate was shirtless. His back was to the door, and he was inside her. Evelyn Damen, the Lycan King's niece, a royal blood.
She was lying on his desk, her red, wavy hair was tousled, and her expensive, white dress was pulled up to her hips.
"What about your fiancèe?" Evelyn gasped. Her fingers were digging into his shoulders. "She has your father's will that states she'll be your Luna. She also has your mark. If my uncle finds out you're getting rid of your chosen mate for me, he'll take away your title."
She pulled him closer. “You’re well aware that royal blood may only wed an untainted member of the elite, and no bond can be broken without the council’s consent.”
My wolf howled within me, burning in pain.
Her head rested against his chest. “Two years ago, you saved me from drowning. We're true mates. I don't want to lose you, Ren.”
"Don't worry, I've already taken care of the will. It's gone now." Ren grunted. He didn't stop moving. “As for Rhea? I'm going to sell her to the slave market before the coronation starts. The DarkFang pack is our enemy, an outcast to Riverfield. She can never escape them."
Fear crawled over to my skin.
“She was a stray my father adopted from the orphanage. She has fulfilled her purpose.” He thrust deeper into her. “After the Lunar Gland transplant, her wolf has lost all her strength. She's useless to me anyway. And the ugly scar on her chest…It disgusts me.”
My lungs seized, pulling in air that felt like broken glass. I recoiled, an instinct to flee, yet my heel caught on a pedestal. A vase wobbled for a second before it fell to the floor.
“Who's there?” Ren groaned.
My gaze dropped to the shattered pieces of the vase, and by the time I looked up, Ren was standing before me. The second I met his cold eyes, I knew I couldn't fight him.
I quickly turned to run down the hallway. I didn't even take three steps, Ren moved fast and grabbed my wrist. I was pulled back so hard that my feet left the ground. I looked up gasping, into the eyes I used to love. Now they were pure devilish.
"Rhea, " he said, his voice intimidating. “You shouldn't eavesdrop on your Alpha."
“L-Let me go!” I screamed, my voice breaking.
Evelyn appeared in the doorway, fixing her dress. “You look exactly like someone I know.” She came closer. “Strange.” A glimpse of shock in her eyes.
“Who?” Ren twitched his brows.
"I'll tell you everything later. For now, we can't waste another second. She heard everything.”
Evelyn stepped back, making way for Ren. He cupped my cheeks, his gaze dropping to my neck on the faint pattern of his fangs. “This mark…You don't deserve it.”
"Ren, please don't do this. I'll disappear. I'll never come back. Just don't send me to the slave market.”
"I won't take that risk," he whispered, leaning closer, and I could smell Evelyn's scent on him.
"You’re a monster…” I scratched his face, attempting to break free from his grip.
Then, his fingers came to my cheek like a storm. He slapped me so hard that I lost balance, and my head hit the floor. My vision went black, and I tasted blood.
My eyes slowly opened to the sound of metal scraping against stone. My head was heavy, throbbing in pain. I tried to move my hands, yet they were numb. When my vision cleared, I realized I was somewhere in the dark.
I wasn't in the pack house. I was in a cage.
The floor was cold and dirty. There were stains on it that I didn't want to think about. The air smelled like dirty bodies, fear and blood.
A part of me already knew the answer. I tried to sit up but I felt sick.
I looked through the bars. A man was passing by, wearing a red uniform. My heart stopped. The color of the DarkFang Pack.
"No," I whispered. "No, no, no!"
I looked down the dark hallway. There were a thousand cages, each holding a broken wolf. I heard chains rattling and distant screams.
Terrified, I shrank to the dark corner of the cage, shivering.
I was completely shattered, tears streaming down my eyes. “A-After everything I did for him…How could he do this to me?
Ren was born with a weak Lunar Gland. He couldn't shift into his wolf because of that. Only a transplant could cure him. When I was ten, I was taken away from the orphanage because my medical profile matched Ren's.
Alpha Jemson selected an orphan for only one reason. Since the child had no family, the operation could be kept a secret. If the transplant failed or the donor died, there would be no family to cause an uproar. The pack would never even know.
He raised me in secret. Only after turning eighteen, Alpha Jemson revealed the truth. I donated my Gland to Ren, leaving me with a scar on my chest. But I loved him too much.
Suddenly, a thud against the iron bars startled me to the core. The guards were dragging slaves out of the cages, taking them to Goddess knows where. The screams and the cries of other girls sent a shiver down my spine.
Two guards came to my cage, keys jingling. They didn't speak. They just unlocked the door.
“Don't come any closer,” I pushed out my claws, threatening them.
They laughed at my face. “A tough one, huh? She's from the MoonDawn Pack. We found her sleeping outside the gates.”
The guard came closer, his gaze dropping to my lips. “For the first time, a prey herself walked into the predator’s trap.”
Without warning, he clutched my blonde hair, dragging me out of the cage. Aggressive and inhumane, they pulled me toward the wooden, black door at the end of the hallway.
I kept screaming, crying, and begging them.
"Move, b***h!" One of them growled. He kicked me in the ribs when I stumbled. A scream slipped free of my lips. They pushed me through the door, and I ended up in another cage. There were other girls, dressed sexy, and wearing sultry makeup.
“Get this one ready. She'll stand at the auction tonight.” The guard on my left whispered to the woman hosting the auction.
