Chapter 1 Emily's eyes wandered across the crowded café, her mind lost in thought. She had just finished a grueling exam and was treating herself to a well-deserved coffee break. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the gentle hum of conversations. As she waited in line, her gaze drifted toward the window, where a figure caught her attention. He stood with his back against the glass, his eyes fixed on some point outside. Emily's curiosity was piqued – what could be so captivating? She followed his gaze but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Her attention returned to the stranger, and their eyes met. Time seemed to freeze as their gazes locked. Emily felt an inexplicable jolt, as if she'd known him before. The sensation was unsettling, yet intriguing. She quickly looked away, her cheeks flushing. Why did she feel drawn to him? She didn't even know his name. As she ordered her coffee, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that their eyes had met for a reason. She glanced back, hoping to catch another glimpse, but he was now engaged in a phone call. Disappointed, she took her coffee and found a seat by the corner, trying to focus on her book. However, her eyes kept drifting toward the stranger. She noticed the way his dark hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck, the way his eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled into the phone. Emily felt a pang of guilt – she was practically staring. Just as she was about to refocus on her book, the stranger's eyes met hers again. This time, he smiled, and Emily's heart skipped a beat. She felt like she was drowning in the depths of his blue eyes. The connection was palpable, and she knew she had to look away before she got lost in their gaze forever. With a sense of trepidation, Emily returned to her book, her heart racing with anticipation. Who was this stranger, and why did she feel an intense connection? She couldn't shake the feeling that their lives were about to become intertwined in ways she couldn't yet comprehend. As Max's eyes locked onto Emily's, he felt a jolt of electricity run through his body. He couldn't explain the sudden attraction, but he couldn't deny it either. Emily turned back to him, her composure regained. "So, Max, what brings you here today?" she asked, her voice light and friendly. Max hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But there was something about Emily that put him at ease. "I'm trying to start over," he said finally. "Leave my past behind and make a fresh start." Emily's eyes softened, and she nodded. "I know how that feels," she said. "Sometimes I think we all need a fresh start." As they talked, Max found himself opening up to Emily in ways he never thought possible. He told her about his daughter, Lily, and his struggles as a single father. He shared his fears and doubts, and Emily listened with a compassionate ear. In turn, Emily shared her own story, her dreams and aspirations. Max found himself drawn to her passion and enthusiasm, her zest for life. As the afternoon wore on, Max realized he had been talking to Emily for hours. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the park. He knew he should leave, but he didn't want the day to end. "Would you like to grab dinner with me?" Max asked, feeling a sense of hope he hadn't felt in a long time. Emily's smile lit up the fading light. "I'd love to," she said.
