DOMINICK’s POV.
I was already in the office before the boss arrived, he loved his morning coffee, he liked his table being arranged with the documents he needed for the day. Lamita, his former secretary, told me all this after he left yesterday. I was still surprised that he would leave someone as talented as her to choose me—an intern. One part of me thought of it as an honor and the other part? I couldn’t place it.
Yesterday, he made me feel a certain kind of way with the questions he was asking and the way he kept looking at me—something was definitely up but I couldn't place it.
“You are here to work, Dominick” I told myself as I set the file on his table, “and you should do that”
That was my mantra, I was here to work and not mind other people’s businesses.
Just as I made my way to the door, it pushed open and his cologne first greeted me before he entered my eyes and traveled over him.
Today he was not wearing a pair of suits. Just a pair of black joggers, a white T-shirt that hugged his biceps firmly. His hair looked damp and a bit disheveled but it looked good on him—too good.
This man looked different from the man I saw yesterday, this one ignited something inside of me. The tattoo on his arm caught my attention, could it be an extension of the one on his chest? I was suddenly curious, I wanted to know what it was all about.
Mr Lucian had his phone pressed against his ear and he looked like he was having a serious conversation on the phone because the look on his face was different. Could that be his woman?
“Good morning Sir” I greeted and he nodded, walking past me to his table. He didn’t sit down. He just pulled open his drawer and picked up an envelope from inside.
“Yes. I have it” he said, “let me call you right back”
After that he ended the call before he finally rayed his head to meet my gaze.
“Good morning sir” I greeted again.
“Yes, DominicK. How are you?”
“I am fine sir”
“We will be working from home today” he announced, much to my surprise, “get your things”
“I am coming with you?”
Mr Lucian lifted his head again, an expressionless look on his face. He looked a bit stressed, I couldn't help but wonder if it was because of his girlfriend
“Yes, you are”
“Oh, okay sir”
“Make haste and join me in the car”
He didn’t wait for my response, he picked up the envelope and made his way out of the office. Seems like he was busy from the look of things.I didn’t wait, I immediately grabbed my things and also followed him out.
His Aston Martin was parked in front of the building and he was leaning on it, his phone still pressed against his ear.
“Can you drive?” He asked as soon as I came to a halt in front of him.
“Yes but I haven’t..
Mr Lucian didn’t let me finish my statement before he threw the keys towards me.
“Drive” He was trusting me with his car? This was another level of trust if you ask me.
I grabbed the keys anyway and pulled open the door while he took the passenger’s seat. In a few seconds, I zoomed off the premises while he pulled open his laptop and began to work on it. Something was going on. The boss was different from yesterday or was it just my imagination?
“Have you had breakfast?
“Sir?”
“You heard me, Dominick,” he answered, “have you had breakfast?”
“I had coffee sir?”
“Hmmm, okay”
He returned his attention to the laptop again when I turned to the road ahead. None of us said anything again until I brought the car to a halt in front of the house.
My jaw dropped at how magnificent his house looked—it was awesome.
“Come on In” the boss suggested before he stepped out of the car. I did the same and I followed him into the gates. The more I looked, the more beautiful the house looked. It must be nice to have everything one would ever want at the tip of your fingers.
We walked for a while before we finally got to the door and he pushed it open—we both stepped in. The exterior was nothing compared to the interior and I could beat my chest and say it a million times.
“We have a lot to do” he began to talk as he made his way towards the living room, “so I think you should grab a good breakfast before we start”
“I think I am good sir” I answered hastily.
Mr Lucian stopped walking and I almost bumped into him but I was fast enough to stop myself. His gaze rested on me for a few seconds, I could see his jaw clenched together and his hand balled into a fist.
Okay, that was fast. He looked okay a few seconds ago, what could have possibly changed.
“I have been trying to keep this as professional as possible, Dominick” his deep baritone filtered through, “so let’s try to keep it that way, okay?”
“I do not understand sir”
He bit down on his lips a little, his gaze softening but he was still on guard—i could feel it. This man was thinking of something and whatever it was, it wasn’t too good of a thing.
“I am going to say this once, Dominick” he finally spoke again, this time his voice came out more in a whisper than a direct response, “I am into men” he dropped the bombshell.
I unconsciously took a step back from him, surprise forming on my face. I didn’t know what I was expecting but certainly not my boss coming outrightly to me and telling me he likes men on the second day of meeting him.
“And you are all shades of the kind of men I want, Dominick” he continued, “and I know you are not into men so quit making me think you are and do what I asked you to. Yeah?”
“Yes…yeah. Okay sir” I was stuttering, I didn’t even know what to say. Maybe I made a mistake coming here with him? I should have actually refused from the very beginning.
“Good”
He turned away from me again and made his way back to the couch while I stood rooted to the spot. I couldn't even move even though I tried—I was still too overwhelmed to even think straight.
I watched him drop his laptop on the table before straightening up again, this time he had a small smirk on his face.
“Are you going to keep standing there?” His voice pulled me out of my train of thought and I found myself taking one slow step after another until I got to where he was standing. I became too conscious of his presence, his eyes, his hair, apparently everything that made him Lucian.
“Don’t look at me like that” he whispered as he swallowed hard, “you are going to make this more difficult than it already is”
“What do you mean sir?” The word came out before I could stop myself.
He took one step closer and my breath hitched, when did colognes become this seductive?
“Is there even any reason why you like men?” I asked again, fear emanating from my voice.
“Do I need a reason to?” He scoffed, “why does everything have to have a reason?”
“I didn’t mean it that way sir”
“The kitchen is over there, Dominick” his voice sounded so strained, i thought he was going to break his voice box, “you can whip up something for yourself and we can start”
With his jaw clenched tight, he turned away from me but I didn’t move—I was too surprised to move.
“Have you ever kissed a man before?” He suddenly asked out of nowhere.
“No, I—“ my voice trailed off as I kept staring back at him, too stunned to even speak.
“Do you want me to kiss you?”
I didn’t answer, I couldn’t answer. I didn’t know what to say or how to say it. Never for once did I imagine myself in this situation.
“Do you think it’s a good idea that we are alone right now?” The words spilled and he swallowed hard.
“Trust me, Dominick. I won’t touch you without permission!”
One sentence and it had me on a chokehold, he looked like he meant it.
“Go make yourself something to eat, I need a cold shower”
Before I could respond, my thirty four year old boss turned around and made his way towards the stairs while I stood rooted there and for the first time in my life, I wondered what it was like to kiss a boy.
