EMILY AND HIS DAD CAME into the room and Nick got up from the chair to give both of them a hug. Emily sat in the chair beside Maggie’s bed and took her hand, “Hi Maggie, I’m your mother-in-law and I am pleased to finally meet you. We all need you to wake up, so if you can start fighting your way back to us that would be great.” Then Emily bent and kissed her on the cheek and turned away to wipe her tears. “They say that people can hear you when they are unconscious.”
Nick bent over and kissed Maggie on the lips and said to her, “I am going to a meeting with your doctor and then I will be back, try waking up for us please, I love you.” Nick turned to find his Dad with tears streaming down his cheeks and Nick put his arm around him as they all left the room together.
