Ms. Hamm told the team that the next two weeks of practice were going to be harder because the next two opponents were two of the better teams in the district and they would need their best effort to beat them. She drilled them relentlessly and especially Sam as she stressed to her that she must be fully ready from the beginning of the game.
Sam assured her coach that she would be ready but the day of the game, she started to feel an increasing amount of angst. What she really wanted more than anything was to talk to Meri because that usually eased her stress. She wondered if Meri would be there and if there was any way to talk with her before the game.
