Chapter 1
"Hey, babe, what's wrong?"
The corners of Dylan Evans's eyes were red, his lashes trembling slightly as he asked me in a hoarse voice.
I licked my chapped lips, summarizing the information from the onscreen comments.
First, Dylan didn't like me. The only reason he was with me and treated me well was because of a mission assigned by the System. The mission was to win me over, to make my affection level for him reach 100%, and it stood at 99% at the time.
Second, Dylan would end up liking someone else in the future—the so-called female lead, and I would most likely, as the onscreen comments said, "get the lovely care package of bankruptcy and homelessness".
I glanced at Dylan. Damn, he was hot! On top of it, he was a good sub.
If I left him, who else would be willing to be my bunny boy? Anyway, as long as the affection level didn't reach 100%, he had to stay by my side and keep pleasing me.
Then again, why didn't I just lower the affection level a bit? But the onscreen comments said that if the affection level didn't reach 100% before his 25th birthday, he would die. His birthday was in a month.
Damn, he was going to like someone else anyway. Why would I care if he died or not? I looked at Dylan again. I really liked him. Maybe I should care a little.
Seeing me just staring at him, Dylan leaned in again, good-natured as ever. His fluffy rabbit ears brushed against my bare skin, sending waves of shivers through me. "What's wrong? Are you tired? Then let me be on top." He climbed on top of me and muttered under his breath, "It's odd. Isn't this always your favorite position?"
I pushed him away, pulled up the covers, and wrapped myself up tightly, trying to keep my voice calm. "I'm fine. I just don't like this outfit."
Dylan narrowed his eyes. "Since when are you picky?"
The bunny outfit had always been my favorite. Throw in some handcuffs, and I used to go at it all night.
"I'm bored of it." I turned my head away, not daring to meet his eyes.
"Then I'll go change into another set," Dylan said.
"How about the lace puppy outfit?" I suggested. "It just arrived today."
"Forget it. I'm not in the mood anymore," Dylan said, then paused in the middle of undressing. He turned to look at me, the lust in his eyes gradually fading. "Eva, is it the outfit you don't like, or is it me?"
"You know better than anyone whether I like you or not," I replied.
My affection level was at 99%. Before seeing the onscreen comments, I hadn't even realized I liked Dylan this much.
Dylan looked away briefly, then leaned in and kissed me. "My bad, babe. Don't be mad."
"I'm not angry," I said. "It's getting late. You go take a shower first."
Dylan entered the bathroom, and the room suddenly went quiet. Only the onscreen comments kept scrolling.
A: [Poor male lead. He's obviously annoyed to death, yet he still has to apologize to the side character every time.]
B: [Actually, the side character is quite pitiful too. Back then, the male lead set her up to terminate her contract, which completely erased her from the entertainment industry. If she hadn't later gotten together with the male lead, who knows where she'd end up now.]
C: [To the commenter above, the male lead did that to stage a damsel-in-distress rescue act and raise the affection level. That one time directly raised it from 0% to 70%. Besides, the resources the male lead later gave the side character were just as good as her old company's, right?]
My heart seemed to stop for a moment. I didn't even dare breathe too loudly. Was that how it was?
I first met Dylan two years ago. Back then, I had just terminated my contract with my management company and was blacklisted across the entire network. The crushing termination fees and the career void suffocated me. I spent every day holed up in bars trying to numb myself.
