THE TEST

1914 Words
A simple question- “if I will give you a chance to be an animal, what animal do you want to be?” asked Angarishi. “I want to be a donkey.'' I replied sharply. Angarishi was in shock. He never heard anyone answering donkey in this question. Others generally choose Tiger, Elephant, Lion, Eagle. This was the first time someone had said Donkey. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  Emma- “Even I am amazed, why did you choose Donkey? ” Shukracharya- “this is the reason that i gave to Angarishi . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ” - -  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Yes sir, I want to be a donkey because Donkeys, unlike horses, do not hurt animals or humans. In the wild, they live semi-solitary lives and form small family groups. When domesticated, they will also form loyal and faithful partnerships with another animal, including a human. They will never submit or allow themselves to be completely subjugated, unless brutally broken. What I learned from charan, my clear-eyed and independent donkey, as recounted in “our” upcoming memoir Smart a*s is that, by their behaviour, donkeys speak truth to power Donkeys are gifted in an animal sort of way. They are very trainable. Donkeys have been ridden by people for thousands of years without reins for bridles, just using a stick to tap the neck (steering the front legs) or the rump (steering the back legs). They learn how to negotiate trails and arroyos, they find water in the driest places, and they do it without getting full of Cholla cactus spines and without losing their footing. That is why they are so trainable and seem so smart: they must learn to do things right in the desert or they will perish. Being able to look at a situation and determine the best course of action for self-preservation with a very short learning curve is absolutely essential in such a forbidding landscape. ” - -  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Emma- “that’s quite deep. I could see a different ray of hope in his eyes. He still continued . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .   Angarishi- “How can you lift an elephant with one hand?”  Me- “It is not a problem, since you will never find an elephant with one hand.”   He was now getting impressed with my swift answers but he kept on asking me more questions.   Angarishi- “How can a man go eight days without sleep?  Me- “No Problems, He sleeps at night.” He immediately asked another question.   Angarishi- “What looks like half an apple ?” Me- “The other half.”  Ok, now I would like to ask you a few questions from the DHARMA SHASTRA. -  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -    Emma- “What is the exact meaning of dharma shastra?” Shukracharya- “it consists of questions related to theology. Shukracharya- “One who helps the needy.”   Angarishi- “do you know, from where I am asking you this question?” Shukracharya- “yes, I know. In a fraction of second, it can reach the sun with imagination.”   Angarishi really got excited and said “I see myself in you. The same speed, knowledge rationality and precision. Welcome to my ASRAM, you are my disciple now.” I could look the love for me in his eyes. I said obediently “one day, I will make you proud angarishi.”  “You can now call me ACHARYA(teacher).” Angarishi said proudly.
