Chapter 31

The room had gone quiet that even a pin drop could be heard, Haldir had suddenly hugged Nimai like before but only the reactions were different now, it was sudden and she could hear her heart beating more than it should if she could hear her heart what more him, the longer they stayed in that position the more colder she felt he was, compared to Zephyr, Haldir's body is extremely cold.

Haldir could hear his own heart beating, at first he tried deceiving himself that it wasn't his, she was warm the opposite of him, and her warmth comforted him in ways he hadn't expected, this wouldn't be the first time he hugged her but this was the first he had no reason whatsoever hugging her, perhaps his words failed him like it always has, was he enjoying the hug a little too much? Yes he was and he didn't want it to stop, she wasn't hugging him back but at least she wasn't pushing him away.

“Why are you hugging me?” her voice came low then followed by a push, Nimai knew her reaction was slow but it was better than nothing, why was she enjoying it? He lay in the same position he fell, Nimai frowned her face waiting for him to raise but as he refused to raise she began to panic wondering if she had made use of her power without realizing it.

“Haldir” she called out softly as she approached him, receiving no response she went more closer to touch him, as she reached for his chest his hands pulled her closer to him making her lay on top of him as he grinned.

Bump! Bump!, her heart skipped

“Stop making me worry Nimai” his voice was low, has he finally seduced her she can't tell, her reactions remained slow, she felt like her heart was about to burst open, she had never known he was capable of having such sweet and enchanting smile

“You are harassing me” she finally said getting up from his body, “what has come over you?” she asked wondering more about what was wrong with her, she wanted to tell him to smile more, what has taken over her, she is beginning to think of him in ways she never thought before just in a matter of minutes.

“I hate you!” she shouted and ran out of the room, on opening the door, she came face to face with the three shadows of the devil. Zephyr, Thanatos, and Lord Eros, Thanatos had on an indifferent expression, Lord Eros made her know they knew everything that happened within by giving her a knowing smile, while Zephyr had the face of a person awaiting doom, after standing with an awkward smile she ran away wanting to hide her face or even run away somewhere she wouldn't be seen for a while.

Meanwhile, within Haldir's chambers, he remains in the same position recurring the shock on her face he smiled and finally rose to face the people he could tell were waiting for him.

“Am so sorry Master, I was careless I didn't think my decisions through before doing that,” Zephyr said immediately almost on the verge of tearing up, Thanatos has scared the living hell out of him telling him of so many possible punishments which were all extreme. Haldir had actually planned on not going easy on him, but his mood has changed he wasn't angry anymore, he wasn't really angry, he was just worried, he left what he went for immediately after he perceived her scent fearing another might get to her before him, it wasn't a good experience and he never wants to feel like that again.

“It's okay Zephyr, you did nothing wrong, next time let me know,” he said with a smile as both Thanatos and Eros eyed him suspiciously.

“Thank you, I will be careful from now on master,” Zephyr said still with a heavy heart, he waited for a while but realized nothing was being said he bowed slightly and excused himself.

“I see you do not plan on sending her away,” Eros said ushering himself into Haldir's room

“We just began searching for her family, so I suppose master has a plan” Thanatos answered without being asked

“Oh better, you wouldn't have fought Paxton if she left earlier but at least you are still on your right sense,” Eros said gaining a hard glare from Haldir

“Whether she stays or not is my decision to make, I made a deal to be her savior”

“What? You made a deal that deep!” Eros said almost losing his cool, “the initial plan was to kill her or break the curse, but it was safer to kill her but you perfectly decieved her into a blood oat, or were you deceived?” Eros said frustrated, “why are you suddenly wanting to be the good one”

Haldir ignored his words as he moved to the balcony overlooking the ground of his castle, he would have really wanted to tell Eros to shut up that he has a plan, but he doesn't, he doesn't want to find her supposed witch family too but it would be considered evil of him if he denies her the right to know her kind, ‘what is it about you Nimai?’ he inhaled as he turned by the sides to see the concerned look on Thanatos's face.

“He left eventually” Haldir said as Eros left angerily

“Yes and very angry,” Thanatos replied

“Are you angry with me too?” Haldir asked

“I dare not” he replied avoiding the gaze of Haldir

“Do not speak to me as thy master Thanatos, are you perhaps agitated by my actions?” Haldir asked

“Yes I am, your plans have changed after returning with the witch, starting from accepting the duke position to still harboring her stay up till now”

“Wouldn’t you deem me heartless if I throw her out in the alley knowing fully well that she is a creature greatly hated by many” Haldir asked

“There was no need to take her away from that palace, you could have left her with them, the Emperor would never have killed her,” Thanatos said, he was finally saying his mind

“Do you realize how ugly the world will become if that Emperor had his way with her by his side?” Haldir asked

“We do not care about mortals, and besides she is your curse,” Thanatos said hoping he was understanding his point, to him there was no logical reason Nimai should be in Alfredo, she would only be in more danger, creating more enmity for his master, his kind loathes witches and he is no different.

Witches deemed themselves the best of heaven creatures, because of their powerful sorcery, the hatred between the two might never change.

“Do you have an idea that witches can find our portals and breaks them?” Haldir asked smiling at Thanatos's point, he knows he was just making excuses to keep her, but why was he attached to her, he had thought it was hatred, she was his curse after all but why was he having attachment issues with his curse, was that part of the plan, was the curse that deep, he wasn't like this till after the Oath.

“Could it be that your heart yawns for the witch?” Thanatos said with uncertainty every of his words calculative as Haldir sneered, he chuckled before turning fully to look at Thanatos

“Do I perhaps look like am capable of love again?” he said before walking away leaving Thanatos to ponder on his words,

“Do you need to go through the letters?” Thanatos said catching up to Haldir

“No am going to join Nimai for dinner” Haldir answered making Thanatos stop on his track.

Daud!!! Star came crashing into Thanatos rock hard back, carrying a teacup, and the whole content spilled over the place.

“Am sorry sir Thanatos” she said attempting to pick up the broken pieces

“You will get a cut from that,” he said stopping her as he took her hands into his

“Am so sor..”

“Do not apologize” he stopped her “it was a mistake, what was that by the way?” he asked

“Tea for milady, she looks stressed, do you by chance know what could be wrong with her?” Star asked genuinely concerned

“I do not know but perhaps the master knows” Thanatos replied

“I just wish she can finally be happy, shouldn't you speak to master,”

“Why should I speak in her favor?” Thanatos asked, he didn't like the direction of the conversation but at least she was talking to him, she always acted like he wasn't there but today because of Nimai or perhaps the broken tea cups they were having a conversation and he doesn't want it to end, for long he has fancied her, he watched her from afar as she never noticed him, he made sure Eros employed her so she would be safe from those ruthless men she served at bars, she still doesn't recognize him as the poor drunk fellow who frequented the bar she served.
