Chapter 16

I woke with a start. I was sweating and my breathing was fast. I had a nightmare. It was Ronan torturing my mother, but slowly, it morphed into him harming Edalyn. I had no idea what she looked like, but somehow I knew it was her.  "Sebastian, " I tried to wake him up. "Sebastian!" I practically screamed it in his ear, but damn, this boy could sleep through anything. He didn't even twitch. Explains how I successfully completed my walk-of-no-shame yesterday. But it was a new day. And on this particular day, I was more impatient than usual. What can I say? It comes and goes. So nothing had worked. How someone could sleep through getting ice water dumped on their face will forever be a mystery to me. Nothing was working, and this was a waste of my very valuable time. "Oh, hell," I mumbled to myself. I kicked him in the stomach sending him flying off the bed and across the room. He hit the wall with a "thump." "OW!" I heard yowling coming from the figure in the floor. I laughed at him and his eyes narrowed. "Seriously? That hurt," he whined. I just kept laughing as I walked to the doorway. "Come on," I said. "We need to go. We should've left yesterday." "Fine, he groaned and clutched his side. "Damn, " he swore, "I think you broke something." "Eh," I waved off the fact that he was in pain. "You'll heal." "It still hurts like a mother." He mumbled the words. "Well, if it really is a broken bone, like you claim, of course it's gonna hurt, dipshit." He scoffed, "As if you know what breaking a bone feels like, my little princess." I rolled my eyes. He said it like it made perfect sense. It doesn't. I may be a princess, but my father is the devil. He was my trainer. No one wants a weak queen. No, not queen, Empress. "Of course I have," His eyes widened in surprise. I knew he wanted me to elaborate, "Come on, we need to go." He walked slowly. "It was one of my Dad's training exercises. Pain tolerance. Show any sign that you are in pain, it gets worse." He winced at my explanation. I smirked, "You obviously didn't have pain tolerance, my little prince." He, in turn, rolled his eyes at the pet name. He looked so cute when he was exasperated. I mean, no he didn't. I only use the words "cute" when describing puppies. I love puppies.  "Time's a wasting. Let's go." I grabbed a map, and had him point out where his home was. I grabbed his hand and the world blinked out around us, then reappeared. But it wasn't my Dad's palace I saw, it was a different, smaller one. "What the--" I cut him off. "I wouldn't talk just yet." "Why not?" "Just give it a second." I walked away as I heard him throwing up. Gross. "Don't ask about the powers. It's just teleportation." I spoke as I heard him walk up beside me. "The first time's always the worst." "State your name and business." The palace's gate was blocked with guards. Five. I pushed Sebastian behind me. If they recognized him, they would let us in, but that wouldn'tbe any fun.  "It's the same thing." The head guard looked confused, and I snickered as he questioned, "What?" "My name is my business, not yours. I don't owe you anything." The guard scowled, "Leave or be struck down." "Let me in." "No. I don't answer to you."  That wasn't nice. I punched him in the face. When the others saw what they did, the attacked simultaneously. I fought them off easily. Leeches are nothing.  They laid sprawled across the ground. I figured it would be more fun to have them eat their words than to kill them. Soon, I would be attacked by their weapons. I would survive, problem is, Sebastian probably wouldn't.  "Open the gates! I have your king!" I heard the loud groaning of the doors. Sebastian stepped out of the shadows. "Had enough fun yet?" "I'm surprised you didn't help." "I was testing the efficiency of your father's classes." I snorted. I was greeted with a score of guards, "Where is King Ronan?" "Ronan is dead. Killed by His Imperial Majesty, Damien Angelus, on charges of disrespect." Angelus means 'angel' in Latin. He thought the irony was hilarious. "And who are you?" "I'm your King's fiancé." I stood a little straighter, trying to make myself believe I could better my perfect posture. "Of course, another gold-digging betrothed bitch." He snickered, "I bet she had the king killed to get a throne faster." Something like a growl emerged from Sebastian's throat. He rushed forward and grabbed the puny vamp by the neck. His face was a mask of rage, "I think you owe her an apology." The guard's skin was paler than a vampire's should have been. "Deepest apologies, Your Majesty,  and the lovely Lady-" he still didn't know my name. "Alexia Montgomery-Angelus." I walked over to them, "Now, Sebastian, let go of the disgraced, little imp." He slowly unwrapped his hand from the guard's throat, anger still burning in his eyes. His jaw was clenched, and a muscle in his cheek kept twitching.  "Sweetie, " I pushed a hair off the vamp's forehead. "I'm not gonna tell you my name. You're don't deserve it. Although, I will tell you this, I'm not a gold-digger." He was unsure what my point was, "But I am a b***h. A vengeful one." I grabbed him by the throat, just like Sebastian had. I called on my powers. I cremated him. Alive. His screams floated away with his ashes, both taken by the wind. We entered the palace, with no more resistance from the guards.  We didn't find anything we were expecting. We saw a girl. She looked about 20, but could've been 200. She was surrounded by dead bodies.  The guards prepared to attack her as she got into a fighting stance. "Lady Edalyn, surrender now or die." This is my sister. Wow. I really wasn't ready for this.
