Mates and Fates

"Ugh, there is no way it's 4:00am already," I groan as I turn off my alarm and trudge over to the bathroom to get ready for the day. I have to make breakfast for my father and I, just like I do every morning, I am basically just a live in maid that can be a punching bag at his service. I groan as I stretched my back out before hopping in the shower. The night before I dropped a plate while serving dad his dinner and before I knew it I was smacked on the back of the head so hard it sent me to the ground, knocking the air from my lungs. I rolled away from him as he started kicking me in the back, my whole back is now a canvas for the black and blue to spread in huge spots. My father, Daniel Ross Stowers, is a very muscular man he is 5'11 and about 210 of pure muscle, he has brown eyes and has curly, dishwater blonde hair. He is a warrior for the Alpha of our pack Silver Crest, he is liked and respected by many members of our pack. I look nothing like my father, I have pin straight, obsidian black hair and I have heterochromia, my left eye is emerald green and my right is royal blue. I am only 5'0 and weigh 120 pounds, I should be comfortable with my appearance, I have an hourglass shaped body, my face is a little chubby with big doe eyes. But I have been told I am worthless and will never be anything because I am just an omega in our pack. I quickly get dressed and dart out to the kitchen and start cooking breakfast for my father, noticing the time I realize I took too long in the shower, I decided to make toast and scrambled eggs, It was quick and easy. I wipe my forehead as I set the table and have his plate ready and like clock work my father appears in the door way with his same furrowed expression on his face I always see. " Please leave my presence as I eat, you're making me lose my appetite, pest", Daniel speaks through gritted teeth as he glares daggers towards me. "Yes sir", I whimper, lowering myself into a bow. With breakfast out of the way hurry out the door and head straight to school, " Sh*t! I'm going to be late again! " I curse myself, I picked up the pace and slam into the side of a taller girl, she has fiery red hair that curls down to her shoulders, and yellow eyes. "OW! WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!" rubbing her shoulder as she scolds me "I'm so so sorry, I didn't see you there" i apologize profusely, tears threatening to spill over as I stare down at my feet, as I brace to be slapped and kicked. "No I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you! I'm Erica, I haven't seen you before" she announced genuinely. I look up and introduce myself with caution, "I'm Jade Stowers" "Well Jade, why are you in such a rush?" she asks while crossing her arms and shifting her weight to one foot. " I am one of the omegas here and have homework to turn for other students, " I mumble. Sadly with me being an omega I have to do whatever the pack says, and since I have always had straight A's, I always have a lot of homework, projects, and essays to do. " Care if I tag along with you, having someone to walk to school with would be nice, " A-Are you sure? It will soil any reputation you have if you're seen with me.." I softly say as I push a pebble with my shoe. "So what? I don't need to be approved by the bratty kids anyways" Erica chimes as she skips over to me and locks arms as we walk to school. Halfway to the school I start becoming comfortable around Erica, and begin laughing and cutting up with her, since I'm only seventeen I haven't received my wolf from the Moon Goddess yet, so it's always just been me. I never really had any friends, and my father hates to even look at me. I think that's because my mother unfortunately passed away when I was born, I always felt guilty knowing that my life brought her death. Having someone to talk to is going to be nice, I smile and nod as I listen to her go on about her life. She just turned eighteen and has already received her wolf, Mia. "When is your birthday?" Erica asks, wiggling her eyebrows " Two days from now" I said smiling, " Oh my Goddess!! Your birthday falls on Halloween!? Are you going to the Halloween Ball?" she squeals while bouncing up and down. " Ball!? What ball?! " I gasp and widen my eyes, I don't have any plans, why would I? I didn't have any friends until I met Erica this morning. Usually my birthdays were just like another day, but this year I turn eighteen, I should get my wolf and I can find my mate. " You're joking right!? The Alpha and Luna are throwing a ball this Halloween to help find a mate for Alpha Alexander, but there's a twi-' as we arrive at the school, a tall slender boy storms up cutting Erica off, "You better have my essay completed, you disgusting mutt!" the boy snarls out at me, " yes I ha-" Erica puts her hand up to my face to shush me, causing me to flinch at her sudden movement "Eric if our mother saw you acting like this, no matter our status, she would be furious, Jade I am so sorry please forgive my twin, his manners are not the best" she spits the last few words at him. Eric gawks at his sister for a moment and regains his composure. Clearing his throat and kicking the ground with his shoe he managed to mumble an apology, his face glowed red with embarrassment. Lifting my head up and getting a better look at the boy, he looks like someone hit the copy and paste to make the twins, same height and everything, I am seeing double. I couldn't help but giggle. Upon entering the school with Erica by my side, everyone is staring at us and whispering, Erica tugs at my arm, " Come on, head up! Which class first?" she marches bravely through the sea of students that have all stop to watch as an Elite is locking arms with a worthless omega. "M-Mr. Stratton.." I manage to squeak out, I can't hear everything they are saying but a few words like "mutt", "disgusting" ,"crazy" ,"filthy" infiltrate my ears, "Erica you really don't have do this, they will treat you terribly if you keep it up" I say as I slump my shoulders in defeat, "why does my first friend have be a freaking Elite? Why do I have to be an omega? A worthless being, just another mouth the pack has to feed.. " thinking to myself as we walk to Mr. Stratton to drop off homework. " Let them talk, " she says nonchalantly, waving her hand in dismissal," if they have nothing better to do than talk about how two people shouldn't be friends.. sad life if I do say so myself! " " Are you sure, I don't want to be any trouble" "Girl, shut up! We are friends now! Period!" She laughs and braces me with a hug. "I will wait for you at the courtyard after school, I've gotta run to class, bye Jade" " Bye" I say, giving her a small wave. I hurry myself to each classroom to complete my task at hand, before heading to my first period. "School this morning was pretty uneventful, maybe I can eat lunch in peace today" thinking to myself as I sit in the back corner of the cafeteria. Going to the ball would be fun Erica explained that it's going to a masquerade ball, just Halloween themed, so everyone has to wear masks. That way no one can tell who is who and will actually focus on finding their chosen mate not going after someone for the status. The ball was being held mainly for the future Alpha to find a mate, and of course the two future betas as well, I hope whoever is future beta Eric's mate can put up with his temper, smiling to myself remember how Erica stood up for me, to her own twin at that! "What the hell do you have to smile for, mutt" snarls a slender yet beautiful girl named Aubrey. She has platinum hair down to her waist, piercing ice blue eyes and a small button nose, similar to my own. "I-i j-ju-" stammering trying to put my words together as I recall the last encounter I had with her, I just coughed near her and she took that apparently as an insult and slammed my tray of food to the floor, pinned to the ground and smashed my face into the splattered food... all over a small cough. " Look how scared she is, can't even get a sentence out! pathetic!" Aubry sneered at me, " I-i j-ju-, poor stuttering Jade" she remarks sarcastically while poking out ber bottom lip in a pout, everyone had their eyes on the two of us. "Are you going to drink this" she asks while snatching my root beer from the table, "y-yes" I stammer trying to hold back tears, she takes the drink and proceeds to shake it up and unscrew the lid pointing it at my face, before I even had time to react the sticky soda spews all over my face and chest, "oops" she says before letting out a cackle, the cafeteria exploded with laughter, next thing I know Aubry snatches my tray of food and dumps it on me, " Learn your place b*tch, you are an omega, you are NOT an Elite, you are barely a person, pest" she snarled at me through gritted teeth, tears poured down my face as I snatch my bag and ran out of the cafeteria, not caring where I run to, why did I have to be an omega!! My father is a warrior, my mom was an Elite and I'm a lowlife omega! I ran until my lungs burned and my vision blurred till I couldn't see anything around me, I could hear running water, I could smell pines all around me and soft dirt beneath my feet. I screamed at the sky, screaming for answers from the Moon Goddess "WHY ME, WHY DID YOU MAKE ME SO WEAK, WHY AM I TORTURED BY EVERYONE, WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE ME!?" Letting out a blood curing scream collapsing into tears and curling up on the damp forest floor, soon my sobs turned to sniffs and eventually I drifted off to sleep, only to be woken up by a pungent smell, death and decay, vampires. I sat up surviving my surroundings trying to smell where it was coming from so I could make my escape, I caught movement to my left so I darted right luckily it was the way home I weaved in and out of trees, jumping over roots. Everything around me was a blur, but I could hear movement still behind me, eventually I made it back to our territory and saw my house, ran for the door before locking it, collapsing on the other side of the door, catching my breath before deciding I was just crazy. No vampire would ever come into wolf territory!It was just my imagination, I checked the time and realized I only had three hours to have dinner ready, opening the fridge and pulled out a pack of hamburger meat, moving to the pantry I grabbed mashed potatoes mix and green beans, hoping it will make up for a lazy breakfast this morning for my father. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me, every hair on my body was standing on end, reeling myself back in and starting dinner. Right on cue my father walks in as in setting the table for dinner, " I don't know why I'm telling you this but we found vampires on the edge of our territory this afternoon, don't get yourself k*lled. I would have to pay someone else to do the cleaning and cooking" Daniel says between bites of hamburger, "You don't pay me now" I mumbled under my breath. "HOW DARE YOU! I FEED YOU, CLOTH YOU, LET YOU STAY UNDER MY ROOF! AND YOU WANT TALK ABOUT HOW I DON'T PAY YOU! " Daniel bellowed, he darts towards me and lifts me by my throat, I violently claw at his arms and hands as I try to suck air into my arching lungs, " He's going to kill me!" I thought to myself, would death be so bad? He slams me onto the ground and snatches my hair, dragging me towards the basement, "Let's see how you do without food for a few days, maybe you'll be grateful then!" he yelled at me, then threw me down the stairs, even though I am a werewolf, I don't have my wolf yet for another two years I know recovery was going to be slow and painful, my ankle looked broke, it will be healed by my birthday and hopefully the bruises leave by then too. He shouldn't bother me until the week is over. I sighed watching the small cuts fade but soon will be replaced by bruising. "Well at least he won't be bothering me for a week," I said to the basement ceiling. Soon I curled up in the corner and drifted off to sleep, and dreams flooded my head. I was in a wonderful cave, a large body of water in the middle, crystal blue but yet, clear. It was lit up and shining onto the cave ceiling creating a magical glow, turning around to look at the all of the caves beauty, I spun back to the lake only to find it was filled with a red substance, I stalked up to the pond , realizing what I was staring at, blood! how did this much blood get here, "Hello child, I have been waiting for you," snapping my head to see who spoke only to look into my own face, but only a tall, pale, beautiful man. "Waiting for me? Who are you?" I gasped, before I could get an answer I was awoken by ice water being poured all along my body, " Get up, clean yourself up. The future Alpha wants everyone, including omegas, at the ball tonight. " Daniel spoke coldly, " Tonight, but it's on Halloween.." He turned walking out the door and stopped in the doorway, "Your mother left you some money for your eighteenth birthday, I couldn't take that from you.." for a second I heard regret and sympathy in his voice, then quickly changed "You look pathetic, don't embarrass me tonight!"
