The drive home was silent.
Dangerously silent.
Luca’s jaw stayed tight the entire time, one hand gripping the steering wheel while the other rested possessively on my thigh.
Heavy.
Claiming.
Every time his fingers tightened, heat curled low in my stomach.
I should’ve been angry about the fight.
About Rowan.
About all of it.
Instead, all I could think about was the way Luca looked at me after Rowan walked away.
Like he was terrified of losing me.
And maybe that should’ve scared me more than it did.
The second we got inside his apartment, the door slammed shut behind us.
Then Luca grabbed my waist and pulled me against him hard enough to steal my breath.
“Tell me something,” he said quietly.
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
“What?”
“Why were you looking at him like that?”
I swallowed.
“I wasn’t.”
“Don’t lie to me, Elena.”
His hand slid up my throat slowly, tilting my head back until I was forced to meet his eyes.
Intense gray eyes locked onto mine.
Possessive.
Protective.
Furious.
“You’re mine,” he murmured.
A shiver ran through me.
“I know.”
“Do you?”
His thumb brushed across my lower lip.
“You have any idea what it did to me seeing him stare at you like he wanted to take you away from me?”
My pulse quickened.
Luca stepped closer until there wasn’t even an inch between us.
“He doesn’t get to touch what belongs to me.”
The words should’ve upset me.
Instead they sent dangerous warmth through my chest.
Because beneath Luca’s jealousy was something raw and desperate.
Love.
Messy, intense love.
“I’m here, aren’t I?” I whispered.
His expression softened for half a second.
Then his mouth crashed against mine.
Hard.
Demanding.
Like he needed reassurance I was real.
My hands tangled in his shirt as he kissed me deeper, rougher, every movement filled with frustration and possessiveness.
“You drive me insane,” he muttered against my lips.
I laughed softly, breathless. “You love me.”
“Exactly.”
He pressed his forehead against mine for a moment, breathing heavily.
Then quieter—
“You don’t know what I’d do if I lost you.”
Something about the way he said it made my chest ache.
Because Luca Devereux loved like a storm.
Wild.
Overprotective.
All-consuming.
And maybe that should’ve scared me too.
But standing there in his arms while jealousy still burned between us…
I loved every second of it.
